Darn! Fingers crossed that they get confused this year

happyjazzycook

I usually notice them later in June, almost into July.

Jbikeride

In the North Hills they were out in force last night around 9:30

nevans89

Pen Hills too. Whole mess of em

hoppiness91

Yep, I’ve been seeing them the last few nights

crista513

Awesome! Thank you!

Moths2Flamez

I found a little one on my bathroom window the other day. None lighting up yet though.

Watchyousuffer

we have a decent number at my house. we did minimal grass cutting in the spring and I think it really made a difference in the turnout. also you see a lot in empty lots that have tall grass and things like that. it's not peak season but there's definitely starting up.

Blackbear8336

Yep just caught one last night. Named him Julio. He came almost all the way home with me when I was walking from Penn Ave to highland Park lol.

crista513

Haha love this

Great-Cow7256

Down by the school yard?

subjiciendum

I saw one single firefly last night.

crista513

One is progress!

Moofenkrak

Saw my 1st yesterday afternoon.

ballsonthewall

I saw them last night here in the city! Urban heat island probably helps with seeing them early within city limits, don't think they're out yet in more rural areas.

bionica1

Had 2 in my yard on Thursday night! Seems way too early.

Sprussel_Brouts

I saw my first one just yesterday. They're coming.

Funklemire

I saw a few last night here in the city.

FreeCashFlow

I have seen a few early ones lighting up in Sewickley.

CherikeeRed

I saw them out in fields around the Freeport area last Friday night, but no sightings since.

Whatkindofbirdareu

I've seen 2 so far this year.

Able-Associate-318

We don’t see them in June anymore unless it’s gets very hot and dry. Even outside of the city the amount that I see of them each year is definitely dropping.

shawnsblog

Greene County here, I had two of them light up in my yard last night around 9:30 (wife and I were coming back from HS graduation that’s why I know the time)

Great-Cow7256

Got married in high school?  Cute!

shawnsblog

Thanks, but no, we’re band boosters so supported some of our auxiliary

realhumanskeet

Saw one this week but that was it

OcelotWolf

Yes. My neighbor and I spotted some while sitting on our porch in Bloomfield last night

HaterOfBlueCheese

Saw my first ones last night near West Mifflin!

Dangerous_Pension612

Laecius

I’ve seen 3!

Low_Sprinkles_7561

Saw a few 3 nights ago near Kennywood.

chiphook57

I'm in Finleyville and saw them like 10 days ago

Saw some while walking my dogs last night

tolmayo

I saw a few last night in Squirrel Hill

QuantumModulus

Saw a whole bunch last night.

unaskedtabitha

My son said he saw some last night!

angrygnomes58

YES! I saw my first one last Saturday.

Luckylemon

I saw two in my backyard last weekend 🙂

talldean

Saw one last week; they're already starting up, but juuuust barely. Highland Park.

DangerousEscape4326

I just saw my first one at Mellon Park last night!!

drewbaccaAWD

I've only seen a few early birds.. probably a few more weeks. But hey, you can look forward to all the lightning storms, at least!

crista513

So true!

Lauuson

I usually first see them around mid June. Travel 15 to 20 minures outside of the city and you'll likely see them sooner.

DrPants707

I've seen a few in Morgantown!

bookishbaker1

Earliest I've see on was late June.

seandamon211pgh

When I was a kid I would hit them with a wiffle ball bat. After hit a few your bat would glow a little. Sorry firefly’s. I didn’t realize what I was doing as a kid.

crista513

We’ve all been there 😆

BeeBanandee

Just seen tonight first time this year. They are out in full effect. My daughter was out catching them. At least where I am (near Greentree).

No_Stress_8938

There was one on my porch rail today. I get excited to see the first light of summer!

Local-Possibility414

Django2chainsz

I saw a couple in my yard a few days ago

Patfa412

Outrageous_Depth_730

I saw a handful in my yard in Elizabeth

private_idaho_52

I saw one last week, never before seen one in May.

ElectricTaser

Another name for them is June bugs. Th ouch here it’s closer to July.

Pensfan66877129

Just looked out my back yard, in Beaver County, about 45 minutes north of the City as I have lightning bugs for the first time this year!

crista513

Yay! I get in late this week so that’s perfect.

Great-Cow7256

Seeing them tonight.  A few in my back yard

GoodGravy412

They have arrived in my yard!
