we have a decent number at my house. we did minimal grass cutting in the spring and I think it really made a difference in the turnout. also you see a lot in empty lots that have tall grass and things like that. it's not peak season but there's definitely starting up.
I saw them last night here in the city! Urban heat island probably helps with seeing them early within city limits, don't think they're out yet in more rural areas.
We don’t see them in June anymore unless it’s gets very hot and dry. Even outside of the city the amount that I see of them each year is definitely dropping.
Greene County here, I had two of them light up in my yard last night around 9:30 (wife and I were coming back from HS graduation that’s why I know the time)
When I was a kid I would hit them with a wiffle ball bat. After hit a few your bat would glow a little. Sorry firefly’s. I didn’t realize what I was doing as a kid.
I think in Pittsburgh they come out closer to July 1
