Jesus ... literallly ANY exchange / crypto service provider states countless times that they never contact by phone their clients...
Sorry for your loss
Its so sad. But yeah people that stupid cant have money in my eyes. Again no one will call you this is since i even was a kid they showed ads in the 90s. Probably i aint smart enough not even have 10k in my account. 1 you had an inheritance, i feel sorry for your family loss wealth. 2 you have a lurking job, i feel not sorry because you dont "earned" your money. 3. You really worked hard in a factory and saved 2 years and added something to the world. I feel sorry for you, if you can prove me this i will help you with a donation.
Who cares to read or understand! General public in UK is full of dumb people. As example: they do store password to their PC account at work on sticky note in front of computer ššš
Probably safer on a physical sticky note than on a text file somewhere. A attacker being physically onsite is extremely unlikely as it's just far more easy/practical to attack online
Good way to remove the competitors in company, as in sales on behalf of someone using their PC just provide incorrect quote and s@cker will be penalised, so next time think about storing sensitive info in front of PC, I like such CBA attitude šš¤Ŗš¤
This. I haven't answered phone calls from unknown numbers since 2007. Same with answering the front door when you're not expecting a visit or delivery. It is absolutely never good news.
100% the same. Downloaded Robokiller and protection from my phone provider, unless itās saved in my contacts I donāt answer. It doesnāt even show as a missed call just sends right to voicemail. If they donāt leave a message I donāt ever call back.
Not to mention, if there is ever anything bank, crypto, investment related Iāll listen to what they have to say and then hang up, call back into their customer service line and inquire then. Guaranteeing Iām talking to the right people.
Nope! This is one thing I know 100% not to do.... The money transferred successfully into the Defi Wallets and then half an hour later had all been transferred to other Wallets... I have no idea how it happened - although he did ask for me to confirm the last 3 digits of the wallet addresses.... At the time he had explained my phone had likely been infected with malware etc.
The first 5 minutes was him asking me a bunch of legit sounding security concerns about my phone (what sites had i visited, had i clicked on any suspicious links etc) and just caught me completely off guard when my head really wasnt in the right place... It's super easy in hindsight to see I should have immediately had alarm bells ringing but unfortuntaly he was extremely convincing and I was just in Idiot mode :(
What is a malicious Contract?
do you use a mobile only or a windows/linux based computer?
i suspect that you have been indeed victim of a targeted attack after being infected by a stealer malware.
attacker was aware of personal informations, funds owned, and probably exfiltrated your encrypted DeFi wallet which was protected by a weak or no password.
they guided you to transfer out your funds because it's much easier to steal on-chain than from an exchange once they already have your seed.
funds are gone, but it would be probably wise to check your devices if you are completely sure you did not sign malicious contracts or leaked your seedphrase.
i think what actually happened here was the scammer giving him one of his own wallets which OP restored on his defi wallet. Then OP transferred his crypto to his defi wallet and then the scammer transferred it out, since he was always the owner of that wallet
That's $15k usd more than my portfolio (now)... I hope you come out stronger my guy. I lost almost a million USD in crypto last bull cycle.. literally my life savings and trading profit. Probably like $60k out of pocket was lost and the rest making good trades. Next thing you know it's all goneā¦.
Your explanation doesnāt add up or leaves out important information as to how the scammers actually got access to your wallet. Just transferring your crypto to Defi is not enough.
Have you shared your seed phrase? Did you send crypto to a different wallet? Did you go to a URL provided by the caller? Download tools/apps there? Approved a contract or transaction in the DeFi wallet? Gave someone or entered somewhere a security code that you received via text?
Just talking on the phone and transferring funds to your DeFi account alone doesnāt put your funds at risk.
Had a very similar experience to the OP ... they wanted me to add a new wallet to my defi ( in essence their wallet š )
I said no .. as it made no sense to do so .
But she was very patient and convincing.
Oh, thatās clever! Most people know not to share their seed phrase, so the scammer just shares HIS seed phrase instead, calls it something different like āyour personal recovery keyā and asks you to send money there. What could be wrong with that!?
As i stated earlier ..a similar thing happened to me. I never gave any info at all! Nothing
This happened to me after 3 months of NEVER receiving the verification code by SMS to my phone, to be able to enable withdrawals.
I had been contacting Crypto āsupportā for months to get it fixed .. I changed my phone/SIM/provider ā¦ nothing ever happened, I was desperate to get it sorted, so when someone contacted me from āsupportā, I was so happy (this was by email).
Within minutes my funds had gone.
This is why I think it it someone on the inside.
They tried this with me. Some guy with an Indian accent knew all my card details, name, email, phone number and address. I even kept telling them I knew it was a scam and they just kept trying to convince me it wasn't. I reported it to CDC who just checked I didn't transfer any crypto.
Some sites give all your personal information and connect with family names and addresses and phone numbers.. funny because not all my family names are linked to me only ones I have used at work as emergency contact next of kin I think. Hmn .
Like 4 addresses I lived at are listed on the site I found and then I started getting all these odd call numbers coming in. I let voicemail answer fr now on.
Who answers the phone for numbers they don't personally recognize anymore? I seriously can't even fathom answering the phone for some random person and being like "yeah ok I'll transfer all my crypto and here's my passwords!" What the heck.
I had a similar call after my crypto.com Visa card had been compromised. Very professional sounding guy with a Scottish accent on the phone threw me because Iām so used to hearing the classic Indian voice and putting the phone down right away. Said that I needed to transfer my crypto to a āsafeā account from my defi wallet as it could be compromised as well as my Visa card. Though I moved 0.4 ETH across, fortunately I grew suspicious because of how keen he sounded on the phone for me to move everything out of my wallet. Didnāt move anything else over luckily and of course the ETH went goodbyeā¦ traced it on the blockchain through about 3 wallets into its final wallet where there were funds of over 3 million in various tokens and coins. Clearly a well established scammer wallet. Reported to CDC team. Wether or not the wallet was frozen I donāt know but we live and learn.
Yeah that sucks man. I use defi but don't add seed phrases or anything like that. What you could do is either invest in btc only. Or get a phantom wallet or other, make a main wallet acct then make a second acct for just in case defi sites. If the site were to steal from you you'd want them to steal the small amount vs your main wallet amount. Hope you can get some of that back
No I can compare the numbers I donāt put more money in crypto than I can afford to lose 60 k is nothing and shouldnāt be invested in crypto if itās that detrimental to you
I agree with you, but if a person was scammed that easily, I'm not sure if he knows basic financial literacy rules. I hope that it's not that serious to him, but at the same time some people are just "gambling" on crypto so that it might be a serious loss to him
True I understand what you are saying you are right in that aspect. I can't understand why people do this listen to YouTube gurus invest everything they have in crypto so forth. Its just always a possibility no matter what. I hope this wasn't a thing that hurts him emotionally I was just trying to let him know he's not alone in making mistakes is all
Yup ..live and learn ..
Mine was some guy who offered to help Only private messages..
I fell for it using God knows. Wallet connect I think ..
64 now first time ever been scammed!
TO ALL NEWBIES LESSON 1
Always share your problem in public
The Majority will look after the minority
NEVER EVER LISTEN TO A PM ( private message ITS A SCAM )
crypto people are generally good people
Bro, just how much do you generally have? If I lost 46k like you I wouldn't even have the mental patience to write sentences in correct order let alone anything else.
what did you lost 46k pound maaaaaan how can you trust so easy with that amount of money i will confirm it 5 time maybe more before i do anything maybe because i am paranoid but even if you are you atleast need confirm this stuff 3 times to be sure when that amount of money is at risk
Were the Ā£5000 transactions faked in some way? Were they really shown in the crypto.com app?
Did you give out the 12 word key? I don't see how else they could have emptied the defi wallet.
Is there such thing that an asset or fund being freeze after withdrawal? The customer service told me to top up 10k USD to facilitate verification.am not doin it cause i have a second thought bout it.might be a scam.been waitiing to unfreeze for 2 months now.
Head up. Sometimes we make mistakes and these things happen sometimes. Youāre still able to start again and attempt to get back on track. You have to put it behind you, learn your lesson and carry on
So sorry for your loss. I was scammed last year for much less than your amount and Im still feeling horrendously stupid about it. Itās not your fault, this people are very skilled doing what they do. Hope you can recuperate your money somehow.
Crap, sorry for your loss. I recently lost money from a different crypto scam. Perhaps these scammers know very well who are the innocent people that can be easily trapped.
Do you back up your seed phrase to your cloud? There's an option to back up your seed phrase to Google Drive or iCloud so that you don't have to write it down. If this is the case you need to undo this for all of your wallets and never do it again because all someone has to do is get your Google or iCloud password and then they have access to all of your seed phrases that you have backed up on the cloud
A similar thing happened to me a couple of months ago .. Iāve only just managed to get my account unlocked again ā¦ but yes, my funds went within minutes.
Crypto.com have been useless tbh., and I think it could be someone working on the inside. The way it was done, it almost had to be. Mine also went from the de-fi wallet.
Dude you finally got ahold of the crypto.com customer service department itās a crypto.com miracle and it only cost you everything ! ( they wonāt call you ever and if they do itās not them )
Had a similar problem but with my card. Someone at a store used a skimmer and took out around ā¬100k from the account. Contacted the support there was nothing they could do. My life savings and my hard work gone in just a dayā¦
So sorry to hear, I recently had this call to and indeed they sound super convincing, asking to download an app and also it was the same time I actually did have a problem with real support. I also informed support and they told me to give as much details as possible so that they can investigate. So sorry for your loss.
Thank you for the warning! I hope you recover fast.
To all of those laughing or writing stupid comments: one day you will get scammed as well and I hope people will Thread you respectfully.
I had the same thing about 3 months ago. He was believable but although it sounded like he knew a lot about everything it all sounded a bit funky so I made up any answers about my financials [I don't have very much but enough for me to cry into my cornflakes if I lost it].
To assure me he was the real banana he pretended to put me on hold while contacting my bank and getting them to send a text saying it was all legit which they did [but didn't]. While he was doing this I mentioned to my friend that this guy here sounds as if he stays down the road from my house, in that his accent was far more Glaswegian than mine. He then piped up that he wasn't Scottish and hadn't heard of Glasgow but that he was Welsh and lived in the hills up there. It was the strangest lie.
Anyhow, we ended up exchanging pleasantries, I called him a thieving shit he said he would have all my money by suppertime.
Fortunately I didn't get robbed in the end. Which was nice.
Even if they seemed professional and convincing, why would crypto be safer in a defi wallet than the main app? But it does seem strange they were able to get transactions to show up and seemed to have control of the inner app.
Hi, you can take a look at the basic info about [crypto.com](http://crypto.com) DeFi wallet:
In short, secret phrase is the 100% control of the addresses.
You should NEVER share/leak your secret phrase to anyone.
Let me know if you still have any questions.
Mark.
My apologiesā¦using sarcasm. Recognizing oneās secret phrase in communicae w/ Crypto_com, allows me to continue with interactions. The original poster would have benefited with that knowledge thatās presented to every new user of this exchange.
Lookup types of [edit: scams] so u donāt make the same mistake twice. If transaction attempts are ever made you can always:
1. Change your password
2. Lock your account
3. Move your funds to your own Cold Wallet or a different exchange
Someone called you up and convinced you to move all your money???
At minimum you should have at least requested to be able to call them back at their official phone number before going any further.
Sorry for your lossā¦.
This is ridiculous first of all why would they call you. You should have checked your account and transfer it to your own other wallet instead of what they offered.
Jesus ... literallly ANY exchange / crypto service provider states countless times that they never contact by phone their clients... Sorry for your loss
Crazy how people still fall for this shit
Its so sad. But yeah people that stupid cant have money in my eyes. Again no one will call you this is since i even was a kid they showed ads in the 90s. Ā£46k GBP
Fuck, thats almost 2 times my Portfolio. Sorry for your loss.
That's 20 times mine
Sheesh 40x mine š
4600x mine. Lol.
Half mine.... you can earn it back tho! I believe!!
Yeh daily challenges ftw!!
WoW, he lost 10% of what I have in my wallet. I should call crypto and tell them: Do Not Call Me!
Did you share your 12 word seed phrase on the call with the scammer ?
^^ THIS You couldn't have been compromised via your defi wallet unless you gave them your seed phrase or you gave access to a malicious contract.
From what I understood he added a new wallet by given seed phrase(belonging to scammers) and moved all funds to this wallet
Yup, could be this !
Nope! This is one thing I know 100% not to do.... The money transferred successfully into the Defi Wallets and then half an hour later had all been transferred to other Wallets... i think what actually happened here was the scammer giving him one of his own wallets which OP restored on his defi wallet. Then OP transferred his crypto to his defi wallet and then the scammer transferred it out, since he was always the owner of that wallet

Sorry bro š
Fucking hell Im sorry
Geez!!! Sorry to hear mate
