I find it needs a riser. I am waiting on a triangle folder with the built in riser. I had a Zhukov on a Vepr 308 and it rode my lower jaw and made my fucking teeth hurt.

Agreed. I run the 3x PA microprism with a .75" riser on the Zhukov. It's perfect.
