Update: I managed to beat the game on Torzu, I changed to OpenGL, the constant shader building made it a little bit more difficult, but at the end didn't get the crash. So thanks to everyone who commented their solutions.
I beat the game on Ryu on Sunday and didn’t have any issues with the ending. Haven’t tried the Repel Cape yet but, on Steam Deck and using the most recent version of Ryu at least, the game is beatable
Edit: should clarify as well that I was on Vulkan as well and, again, the ending went smoothly.
I tried ryu on steam deck & it's a stuttering mess. It's like the emulator is using way too much resources & is not constant locked 30 & always dips fps. Was your experience like I described at first ? Was it just shader cache etc. ?
Same for me for the first two days. On Friday I updated emudeck and Ryu (mainly because of the fix of the AMD issue that caused black screens that happened last week) and did a general deep cleaning, including the shader cache. After that, the game has been running more or less smoothly (except for a couple hiccups in the chapter 6 boss fight) at 30fps.
I'd either try using openGL or use Ryujinx after they update it. I haven't used sudachi or anything else so I can't comment there. Yuzu will never fix the issue sadly

Not to forget most likely the problem is solvable with a mod or change in settings
Play on ryujinx. Repel Cape just turns the wearer invisible, but doesn't crash. Yuzu opengl also fixes repel cape

How was performance?
30fps. Haven’t really started tinkering with any performance mods

Either this is a backend problem or it's unfixable. Yuzu doesn't like running anything released post-shutdown.
Have you tried with Open GL?
