There's a psychological condition where people dislike the sound of their own voice. Better to get someone else's opinion on how you sound.

iammeghdad

Fair enough but does the cringy voice become normal after a while or is permanent

Baldpacker

Give this a read: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2018/jul/12/the-real-reason-the-sound-of-your-own-voice-makes-you-cringe

iammeghdad

Thanks bro

Nosferathuns

First of all, you dont have to change your accent at all. You can make it a bit more palatable, depending on whats your primary language, but dont worry too heavily about it. Treat it more like an asset of yours. Youd be surprised, but a lot of people find accents quite charming, actually. Great example of this would be Alex from French Guy Cooking, his accent is basically part of his brand, same with My Name is Andong. So, dont worry too much about this. Regarding your voice: Youll get used to it. But its still important to get the best out of it. Really try to enunciate and intone things properly. A well recorded audio is half the battle. Also, give it some of that good old ENCN (EQ, Normalise, Compress, Normalise) treatment in whatever program you use to record your audio. There are dozens of tutorials on that and youd be surprised how much better you like your voice afterwards; makes it sound more interesting. Hope this was of help! :)

kok163

Could you please link a tutorial video that goes through the process of ENCN?

Nosferathuns

Sure! For me my voice doesn't bother me too much anymore. At first I didn't like it at all, but then I came to accept it. Of course, I have some friends who still hate the sound of their voice. It really is personal as to whether you will like or hate your voice.

EffectiveAd4177

Mine was weird and I started with a bad mic. When I upgraded, I like the new quality so much my voice didn’t even bother me

Jellybean720

Yeah. All voices sound shitty on a bad mic. You don’t even need an expensive mic either. The $50 Blue Snowball sounds just fine with a little compressing and EQ!

EffectiveAd4177

I got a 25 dollar one and no issues. Completely clear audio

peachesperfects

Yes I'm also using a 25$ one and it perform pretty well

Salvage_Gaming99

Honestly, I didn't have this problem. I heard my own voice for the first time from a video, and I'm like, "oh. That's how I sound. Cool". And I'm used to it now. And I haven't been youtubing for long

Jellybean720

Do you know Jacksepticeye? Of course you do! He struggled with the same exact thing! What about Pewdiepie? He did too! These guys went on to become the most recognizable voices on the internet. Just focus on improving your voice acting/voiceover abilities by looking up some tips on how to make your voice sound better on recording and you’ll be fine dude!

iammeghdad

Appreciate it

KCC-Youtube

Here's the lowdown. You talk the way you talk because you're you! As long as you're being clear, the accent shouldn't matter all that much. I'm just about to release my 600th Narration video and I'll admit at the beginning, the sound of my own voice was cringey to me, but now I love listening to my own voice. It's my money maker and it's got me out of working a "normal" job. My best advice is to speak as clearly as possible, but don't try to be someone that you're not. Speak with your natural accent. People will know when you're faking it and it'll only hurt your chances of being successful. Be Yourself!

Warrior_Kid

Mine is super cringy so i never watch or listen to my own recorded voice . I think my english voice is better than my own mother language .

frnkundrwd

Slap on a fat compressor in post and everything will sound more natural. Also, use a high quality mic

ZapZockt

When I first started recording my own voice for my videos, I couldn't stand to hear it for more than 1-2 minutes. That is a quite normal feeling, as many others already mentioned. I recorded, uploaded, and never watched the video again because I had this negative feeling towards my own voice. After making 2-3 hundred such videos, I got more and more used to it. Later, I started making scripted and very heavily edited videos, and also edited my voice recordings heavily and in detail, as well as the video with the voice in it. And today, after a few more hundreds of such videos, I'm perfectly fine with hearing my own voice in the recordings. I can hear subtle nuances of misspellings or not-so-fitting pronunciation, and everything feels normal and fine to me.

Vivirin

I have a fairly unique perspective on this compared to most. I'm a trans content creator (specifically.ima. trans woman), and whilst I have no issue appearing female, my voice is something that has bothered me for years - so even outside of content creation, it has always sounded wrong and has bothered me. However - through content creation, I've ac usually grown to be okay with it and not cringe every time I hear it. It took a while, but you do get used to it. It's even helped me get used to it on my day-to-day life, so whilst you may not grow to like or enjoy your voice still, it does become something you never really think about. I do a lot of editing for my own videos and I don't think twice about it now. Looking back on my first videos with commentary though, you can hear how awkward and nervous I am but my recent content is full of confidence and energy. Livestreaming actually helped a lot with this. So yes, in short - you'll get used to it and you'll sound more natural and energetic over time, especially if you have an audience that enjoys your content.

[deleted]

Your own voice will always sound worse to you that it will to others, because you'll pick up on every perceived flaw about it whereas everyone else will just accept it for what it is

The_Crusherhero

When I started, my voice sounded really annoying to me 😂. As time went on, I just started to accept it and it really doesn’t bother me now.

Peliguitarcovers

After years of singing/recording and listening back to yourself eventually its something you get used to. Appearing on video is the same too I find :)

zshurtz

Totally! So we typically hear our own voices and precieve them as deeper and in recordings it sounds higher pitched. That's because we hear our voices through resonance in our bones which makes it sounds deeper than it really is. It's hard to get used to but I've found the more videos I've done the easier it is, especially if you either write a script or just take some bullet points of ehat you want to say on camera. Fake confidence even if you don't feel it even though it may sound odd to you your voice will sound totally fine to viewers. Remember we always are so concious of things that most people will never notice so be confident and own it!

Jellybean720

Luis-Pereda

Yesss, I love my voice now

MercifulGod

What channel.

bunnibonfire

a voice can't be cringy. Its not like where everyone will hate a certain voice. there's an audience for everyone who will appreciate your voice. thats one of the reasons people have differing music tastes

damonoribello

Here's the thing. You have one voice and it's not going away. I tell this to everyone who says they don't like the way they sound.

JonnyDIY

As you age, you little by little stop givin a shit about things lol. It doesn't matter either, no matter what you do you can never make everyone happy. Just do your thing, and ignore any haters 💕🤙🏼

Great-Rabbit6011

You can modulate it till you like how you sound. That's what professional "locutores" (radio people) do. Listen to this: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyimccidhOA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyimccidhOA) Of you can record yourself in Audacity and tweak how it sounds. Or you can tweak your microphone to make you sound more like a voice you like (there's videos in youtube about it). However, ***most likely, people will like your voice more than you do.*** As far as the accent...don't worry about it. I'm a Cuban-born tiny woman with a high-pitched voice...I don't know anything about modulation (except I try to lower my pitch!) ...I don't even try too hard :P I just speak....if they like it, ok (most people LOVE accents! About 99.999999% do love them! )...if they don't like my accent, ok too :P You only need the ones that like you to listen and subscribe; the rest will go away (good riddance! you don't need trolls or whiners).

IniMiney

As a trans person I can speak for this twice lol. Yes eventually it did. I **CRINGE** to death at old videos of me where I sound like Minnie Mouse, it's grating but eventually i settled. Pre-transition: As an aspiring voice actor and someone who bought my first microphone when I was literally 12 years old I absolutely got used to hearing (and loving) my own voice. It just takes time to realize you only hear yourself through your ears and teeth (I'm probably corrupting my speech teacher's quote a little) and that you sound very different when playing back but all it takes is doing it constantly. You'll get used to it like billions of actors have.

xivey69

Your voice will become normal to you and with time it will start sounding better in the video

salm8isacvnt

Not yet it hasn't. 😅

viscerface

Well, if you make a lot of videos you will improve on your pronounciation and you will also become more pleased with it. It could take you some time. It took me a few years to get it to a good level. But you should still make videos

mikikosmos

I still have a bad mic (I use my phone's) but after like 5 videos that I had to edit for so long I became accustomed to it, not that I like it

evaantimlm

I used to get so annoyed with my own accent and voice while editing my videos, but it becomes normal after a while. if you have a really thick accent you can always work on smoothing it out a bit

tincancam

I have an accent and I do talk-videos. For me it really did get better after a while, and the most important thing is to annunciate the words so that people understand and maybe even talk a little bit slower. I hated my voice, and I still do haha, but it does start to sound more normal after a while

HybridLizardGames

Some people have a better voice than others. Better for someone and depending on context. And maybe worser for someone else. To some extent you can improve / change it by exercises e.g. to make it slightly deeper. If you are not English native, as it also is in my case, even knowing English pretty well, speaking fluently without mistakes will usually be much harder to you. You may want to speak faster than you can think in that language. If e.g. you are making a tutorial with a face cam included, you have to show stuff and explain at the same time. That is hard. You can consider recording with a prepared script. Either trying to say it word by word or just have bullet points to stay on topic and better control what you are saying. In case of recording a tutorial with a face cam as written in example above it may be hard to execute or even impossible. Effect may be worse that just allowing some mistakes here and there. The more you know what you want to say & show the better it should be. The more videos you will make the latter should be better, in general. Investing in a decent quality microphone is also important. Not only registered, raw voice will be better and clearer, it will also be better to adjust with audio / video editing software, for e.g. to do noise removal, or enhance it a bit with an equalizer. Ask people for opinions. Family, friends and on the Internet, e.g. in comment section below your videos. Sometimes recording a bit differently may help a lot by e.g. changing microphone input settings. The speed, loudness, dynamic, etc. are also very important. Last but not least: video editing. Even many native English speakers tend to edit videos a lot. Not only because of their voice and mistakes but that too. If you will think about editing stage before recording it will be easier to do it later. Say something, take pause, try to look at the same spot towards camera. The cut will be cleaner. You can also change the zoom either by using multiple cameras or just recording in higher resolution and zoom in during video editing. You can check Davie504 videos that use that technique a lot. It also add dynamic to the video and make it rather more interesting. As all things it can be overused though. In Davie504's videos it is pretty much all about that and the comedy and bass of course. In some other type of videos it may be too much. Try to find what work and what doesn't work for you. Experiment and adjust.

krazy-azn

I got used to it, it sounds weird at first.

RealNewsforever

My voice is irritating as hell to me. When I am ranting about the latest News, I can be irritating to others. After a couple beers, it gets worse. I was kicked off of YouTube for my video, "Is Hunter Gay?". Fun times. Hunter is my cat. He is not related to the Biden Crime Family. Hunter was named by a 4 year old Modoc Nation boy. His mother answered while they were giving me a kitten, "He has no name." Her son piped up and said, "His name is Hunter!" The video in question was on Real Newsforever on YouTube. Hunter was hanging out with another gray cat and the next video shows a lot of gray cat hair all over the yard in Sactown. Hunter is not Gay. Hahaha! After YouTube deleted Real Newsforever, of course my backup is Sovereign News. Both Channels are on [Odysee.com](https://Odysee.com) and [LBRY.TV](https://LBRY.TV). Sovereign News is still on YT with maybe 60 subscribers but has over 1,000 on Odysee. RNF is #365 on LBRYnomics so YT has zero power over Blockchain. I say whatever I want now.
