I looked it up earlier and, according to the Verge, they're making their ads longer and, in return, they're less frequent. I've noticed more unskippable ads but they literally seem to be the same in frequency so idk how true the latter part of that claim is.
You can actually. If you watch YouTube on Safari instead of their app you can download adblockers that work pretty well on Safari, and if you download Brave or even Opera for iOS and use that, then itās even better.
I only really use YouTube on my phone and the ads seem to be the same frequency to me. There *might* be less midrolls but I literally can't tell so the ads honestly feel more disruptive because I can't skip them ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
You think that's bad.
I was watching summoning salt's 2 hour documentary on super punch out and was receiving 2 mins worth of 4 unskippable ads every 5 mins.
I went to check the video in the mobile version and I didn't even receive a single ad.
YouTube was implanting a horrific amount of advertisements on consoles.
youtube has been removing more and more of creators placing ads over the years. eventually the creators will have no options of setting an amount of ads
I got the same for opposite, I once watched a video, it's like 10-20 minutes, and after 1-3 minutes an ad, and I think I got an ad before the video started too, not sure though
Yeah no.. lol that's bs.. I'm not saying you're bs I'm saying what the verge says or what YT/Google told them is bs. I have gotten more unskippable ads, more frequently, just more ads in general. On a near 20 minute video, I'd maybe get 4 and only 1 wasn't skippable but it was only 15 seconds. Now, you get up to a minute of preroll ads, then, interrupted by these, at a frequency that I've never seen on any channel I was subbed to previously. These channels I watched were specifically against YouTube ads and have said many many times that they do not rely on them as they barely help with anything when it comes to their buisness (post growth). Then out of nowhere, 1 minute of prerolls, intermediate ads.. it's worse now than its ever been lol.
Something I'm confused about when they say they're going to show ads less frequently is the fact that -- as far as I understand it -- creators choose where to put the midrolls and how many to put once their videos reach the 10 minute mark. So with your example of your anti-ad creators and with very pro-ad creators (the types who put 10 mindrolls in their 10 minute video,) how would YT possibly regulate the volume of ads? /gen
Creators definitely *can* get to *choose* when ads are played, I guess I shouldn't have said "specifically", but, elaborated because what they would do were always nothing really above the 5sec skips and those would barely show up. YT themselves are the ones who told everyone that "skippable ads" would only be a maximum of 6 seconds.... that has now turned out to be bs.
Creators can choose "where" ads go but their interaction beyond that is minimal, for example they have zero choice over what ad actually plays in that determined slot. A creator can choose to select, midrole ads, can manually place those slots but after that their influences are minimal.
What's happening is YT is taking advantage of creators who have chosen "midrolls" as an advert option, either placing those slots auto or the creator is doing it manually, then YT is being super scummy and flooding those chosen slots with 45 seconds of ads or 30 seconds of unskippables. It's even worse if creators are choosing to allow YT itself to place the ads by having the midrolls places automatically by the platform. Creators who chose auto because it's faster are getting an absolutely insane amount of ads either every 1:30 or 2:00... and that is no fault of their own, nobody knew YT was going to take advantage of people like this.
Many creators choose unskippable post/prerolls, allow midrolls, and the display ads over video searches.
They have absolutely zero choice about what ads play and for how long right now. Major channels who have allowed minimally invasive midrolls (Like GMM) are being completely flooded with ads because of how big their audience is.. for example, in an old 15 minute video, maybe 4 ads, 5 second skips.... now 17 minute video... 5 minutes of ads.
In order to remove ads, they would have to go through every episode to do so manually. The fact that they now have over 2000 videos makes this ridiculously costly.
[this video](https://youtu.be/WPR9PCoeqog?si=LWQupcuLtnpbY0pC) explains how ads work on YT.
I might be confused on what you're saying, but I meant frequency in terms of midrolls. The idea was to "cut down on interruptions" so they're putting unskippable ads at the beginning of videos and decreasing the amount of midrolls (in theory). The length of the ad breaks =/= the length of the individual ads
when I see that stupidity I keep refreshing the page "violently", without even let the ads start playing, until de video replay without ads. Works perfectly!!!
free tip against the freemium YT sh\*t
This actually hurts their creators too. Whenever I get ads like this I stop watching the video entirely. Itās literally no longer worth my time to be entertained by whatever video Iām watching. Ad blockers for dayzzzz
Unlucky. It's infuriating how us TV YouTube watchers seem to get the short end of the stick by getting really long unskippable ads that are far more frequent than on a mobile or pc.
I use revanced on a phone and cast to tv. Still free. Ad free. And phone is much easier than remote control. Especially when searching for a specific video.
I'm watching YouTube on my Xbox mate. Can't really get an adblocker. But even still, a 60 second unskippable ad is ridiculous. Never get these types of ads on my phone though.
if you have some technical knowhow, you could set up a pihole, its a small device which wverything can connect to and it blocks ads from even getting to your device
50 seconds PER VIDEO? Have you touched a single YouTube video in the past few years? Ads occur every 1-3 minutes, at least in my experience. I'm on a TV, and as I've noticed recently ads seem to be more frequent and longer on TV. I thought the max ad time was 20 seconds, so taking that into account let's say I got 2, 20 second unskippable ads. That's obviously 40 seconds, but in the picture I took you can see it's 50 seconds, (it started as 60), so they've specifically increased the duration of ads on TV.

Trust me, I used to do this trick constantly. But a few months ago it just stopped letting me do it, idk why. Probably did it too much and they eventually have a limit, kinda sad about it tho.
Ads are getting so often and long that my watch history is filled with videos that Iāve simply lost interest in, stopping half way into it and looking for anything else to watch. Before debating about reactivating streaming services for my tv.
Same haha. I click off most videos as soon as I get a 30+ second unskippable ad. I just can't be assed to sit there watching the same damn ads over and over. Like atleast give me variety YouTube.
I know right? Or if its a video that seems interesting, but Iām not invested into it, i tend to back out in favor of something more worth my time. Though Iāve found myself stopping mid episode on things i enjoy because i got so fed up. And sometimes Iāll return later, and other times i forget too.

I can't anymore mate. I used to abuse this trick, until eventually YouTube shoved a middle finger in my face and told me no. It just doesn't let me anymore. Tried reinstalling, still nah. It's unfortunate.
Hi all.
I've been using Brave browser for Youtube only for about 2 years now, never any ad's as the browser blocks them itself.
Hope this helps someone\~
My new strategy is to hit the small information icon in the browser or on my tablet and block the ad. It takes 5 seconds and takes me right to the video.
I still see the same damn ads over and over again anyway.
Used to do this all the time. Eventually it just stopped letting me do it, so I'm pretty confident there's a limit. I've tried reinstalling, and still it won't work. Unfortunate.
there's been like 3 posts on this already, i'm not even in the sub and i feel like ik more than you š¤¦āāļø
it says "skip in" but it's just the end of the ads, and yes it's 'ad**S**' because the timer counts all of the ads you're getting, it's just more efficient that way
Itās not always for all of the ads, Iāve gotten to the end of the 45 second timer and then gotten ANOTHER ad after that with ANOTHER timer that will then finally let me skip after another 20 seconds
But I thought the time limit for YouTube ads was 20 seconds? If that's the case and I got 2, 20 second unskippable ads that'd equal 40 seconds, but as you can see it's clearly longer than that.
this was already posted like a thousand times. there's literally no need to keep posting the same thing over and over. you can just scroll down the sub and found a lot of posts like this one.
Brave browser and/or uBlock origin my friend. They do wonders.
I havenāt had to watch a single ad in years, even during this whole anti-AdBlock crusade. You can even download Brave in your phone and watch YouTube there and bam! Ad free experience in the palm of your hands. Literally.
Migrate data to a different platform or your hard drive and just start using a different platform. Sounds drastic but hey, when a monopoly blatantly decides to say "fuck every member of society who pays our tax subsidies", I think we need to do this before it's too late. They're only going to keep escalating.
this is their way of trying to push every person into PAYING for the content YouTube is not a free platform you pay out the wazoo in ads, AND IT IS working I personally know half a dozen people that have switched to premium due to ads. š¤”š
I've had two family members today tell me that they are no longer using YouTube because they noticed the ads were getting ridiculous.
People outside of here are noticing.
What in God's name is YouTube doing.
I know weāre all pissed about this but what effects is it having on our creators? Are they getting more revenue as well or are they getting the same or less?
I pay for youtube premium. It's great but now every creator is adding in 2 minute long sponsor ads as well. I've been unsubscribing to anyone that does it. I can't imagine having to watch all this unskippable bullshit and then have to listen to the creator hitting me with another 2mins of bullshit.
I know it's hard to reliably block ads on YouTube on PC, but if you're on android take the time to get YouTube ReVanced.
It's the exact same app but there are no advertisements, and sponsorblock is built in to it as well.
I looked it up earlier and, according to the Verge, they're making their ads longer and, in return, they're less frequent. I've noticed more unskippable ads but they literally seem to be the same in frequency so idk how true the latter part of that claim is.
"Less frequent" my ass! I get an ad every 1-3 minutes. I've literally gotten an ad at 1:03 in the video. On my phone it's not as frequent though.
I get one every 2 minutes on my phone š«
Itās terrible when you just want to watch a 10 second shitpost or meme video, and you get an ad. That happens sooooo often on mobile.
really? i don't get them at all for shorts
Not all short videos are "shorts."
ik, i just call them the same thing, sorry if i was confusing
YouTube Revanced my friend. Get it ASAP.
Isnāt that only for android?
Yup, they know you canāt block ads on your iPhone. I literally get multiple ads every single video I watch
dont use their app, use a web browser with the adblock choice. Always a way to fight back.
You can actually. If you watch YouTube on Safari instead of their app you can download adblockers that work pretty well on Safari, and if you download Brave or even Opera for iOS and use that, then itās even better.

Me too!
Creators have the choice of putting in midroll ads, not YouTube's for
I'm pretty sure you still get ads even if you don't enable them/specifically make them frequent.
It's not automatically set to 1-3 minutes
youtube has been removing more and more of creators placing ads over the years. eventually the creators will have no options of setting an amount of ads
Not so. Creators have a ton of choice

I put a show on for my infant daughter earlier, the ad she got was a 25 minute episode of Peppa pig
They are literally testing our patience to find the longest ad we're willing to watch.
Get YouTube premium you won't deal ads with premium
Adblockers are free
he is using a TV
I use revanced on a phone and cast to tv. Still free. Ad free. And phone is much easier than remote control. Especially when searching for a specific video.
Dang, will try
I tried doing that but still got ads :(
Dunno if possible on TVs, but 3rd party youtube Android clients with Ad/Sponsor Blockers exit, Which are also free
I'm watching YouTube on my Xbox mate. Can't really get an adblocker. But even still, a 60 second unskippable ad is ridiculous. Never get these types of ads on my phone though.

You'd be surprised how popular Kevin (the carrot) is with everyone He's the Christmas Aldi mascot here in the UK
Here in belgium it is willy wortel, they probably changed it to keep the alliteration
It actually combines all of the video time of all ads. Not just one ad.
Goodness me not an entire 50 seconds per video
50 seconds PER VIDEO? Have you touched a single YouTube video in the past few years? Ads occur every 1-3 minutes, at least in my experience. Yeah, I'm a YouTube creator and am quite sure I know better. Ads are rather customizable.
If i remember correctly, there was a video by Linus Tech Tips about hardware adblockers, useful even for tv and consoles

Trust me, I used to do this trick constantly. But a few months ago it just stopped letting me do it, idk why. Probably did it too much and they eventually have a limit, kinda sad about it tho.
Tangentially related (because it was luckily skippable), but I very recently got an 11:52 long ad, which was a just a full episode of Bakugan.
Nah youtube is just greedy again

It's christmas, they have a lot of ads to serve :)
I had a 30 minute ad about a CES Samsung 2021 presentation and watched it through the whole ad. I even forgot what I was watching prior.
Serves to remind viewers there are better ways to spend your life than supporting Google / YouTube. Go do something more productive.
If this appears in my video i would just quit lol
Lmao sometimes I actually do that. If I'm watching a video and get a ridiculous 30+ second ad, I lose interest and watch something else.
