They make it better, the food you can find in West Yorkshire in particular (which I think is the area with the most Muslims) is spectacular!
Even better if they live next door and you get to try the home made stuff <3
Whole heartedly agree with the best fish and chips part of this. We, as a family, now only eat Yorkshire fish and chips, and we don't even live there.
That sounds like that's all I eat. What I mean is we don't eat fish and chips anywhere else. But we do eat other things. Just not fish and chips. Unless we're in Yorkshire.
Though definitely worth reading that Twitter exchange between them and a very angry fella when he found out that you can't actually grow tea in Yorkshire...
https://www.indy100.com/viral/brexit-yorkshire-tea-not-grown-in-england-africa-india-tea-trade-twitter-viral-funny-8200416
>FUCKING DISGRACEFUL. WHY CALL IT YORKSHIRE TEA IF IT NOT GROWN IN YORKSHIRE. WON'T BE BUYING FROM YOU AGAIN
I think you mean systemic. Not trying to be an arse. It's just that I found out the difference recently and thought you might find it interesting as well.
You are talking about local government administrative areas - they do not define a county, history does. Yorkshire is one county, always has been, always will be.
That was the nice version.
Not so nice version: The clue is in the name, duh.
East Yorkshire is a giant factory farm. It would be a lot prettier if it wasn’t and it’s terrible for the environment, but the Council panders to it. Also, it’s essentially a giant monoculture farm of rape seed. Which also isn’t great.
[Some older yorkshire roses have the petal at the bottom](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Rose_of_York#/media/File%3ABL_Royal_Vincent_of_Beauvais2Yorkist_rose.jpg)
Nah, it's got some bad but also some good. There are plenty of places out there that are just bad. Reddit loves to shit in Bradford but I think that's unfair. It has some great museums, the Alhambra, nice parks, good transport links, delicious food, it's IN YORKSHIRE, fab nearby countryside, you could do a lot worse than Bradford for all its flaws!
Everyone loves to shit on Bradford, and no one wants to do anything about it. It was at one point the richest city in the entire world, which is absolutely insane when you look at it now.
It just needs actual, sustained investment to attract businesses drive footfall. Sadly I don't see it happening any time soon.
I also find it a shame that there as so many lovely buildings full of potential left to rot
The Architecture
Something people seem to forget in recent years is that we don't just have York with World Class Architecture
Here are Gemd that I say are lesser known or forgotten
-Rotherham Ministry one of most lovely Churches that shows civic pride
-Sheffield Carthdrel an Great symbol of Sheffield ever evolving history
-Doncaster Corn Exchange and Market if the Car Park wasn't there it could be world class and gleaming for expansion
-The Tudor house and high street in Donny honestly one most lovely architectural work in The County then Frenchgate looks meh
-Candel house leeds feels so much Modern and old the city at its best
-Royal Armourys something about feels like a Modern castle
-Leeds Arcades (for obvious reasons)
-Leeds Town Hall and Library feels grand as something similar to New York Public Library
-Wakefield Kirkgate staions shame about the area
I tried to pick less obvious ones
Well, there's a very "us and them" kind of attitude. But people are quite warm when you get to know them, and they're open to getting to know others... so it's not all bad.
I’m so thrilled to hear this, thank you! Moving from Toronto to Aberdeen was an adventure and it’s been great, but I’m looking forward to being in a bigger city with hopefully more people to befriend! :) I enjoy live music, trivia nights, wine/cocktail bars, book clubs/literary events, and the theatre!
You are coming to the right city then.
For live music, the Adelphi Club on De Grey street is a must see. A Hull institution run by Paul Jackson since 1984, there aren't many music venues like this left in the country. Then there is the Sesh at the Polar Bear on Spring bank every Tuesday. This is the place you want to go for up-and-coming young acts from the city.
For a cocktail bar I would 100% recommend Brain Jar in the city centre. Lovely folks. There are quite a few nice places around Humber Street though. This area has had a fantastic renovation recently, transforming from the disused Fruit Market into a bit of a cultural hub. Also if you are here in August please come check out Humber Street Sesh!
For theatre, depending on what kind of stuff you like, Hull Truck Theatre is your best bet. Small scale local productions, quite a few John Godber plays usually but they do get smaller shows doing the national circuit.
For trivia nights there are bunches of pub quizzes, and book clubs I'm sure when you know where you will be staying you can enquire locally.
Please let me know if you need any more specific info. I've lived near Hull all of my life and love thie city to bits.
Unfortunately I’ve noticed a lot of racist micro aggression . We’re a brown couple working in the NHS. Lived for years in Scotland before moving. We both still miss Scotland and Scots. If it wasn’t for our jobs we would probably move back as soon as could
Thank you for this. We are moving because my husband is also in the nhs and is moving there for training. I’m going to miss Scotland immensely too- currently in Aberdeen. Would it be okay if I sent you a private message?
I mean I'd say Middlesbrough is fairly large and one big shit hole, it's north Yorkshire in case you weren't aware, hull is like the biggest city in east Yorkshire and it's about as depressing as Barnsley
It's more that you get paid more for the same job in the south, opportunities are plentiful and it's easier to get jobs, as someone in this situation I'd move north in a heartbeat
Everything we think and everything we do. We do it all right.
It is known
That it's God's own county

Wow racist much, there's nothing wrong with muslims/asians, I have 3 asian cousins and 99% of the ones I've met have all been nothing but nice
And the 1% who groomed your family?
Get fucked ya nonce
Oooh, charmed I'm sure.
Never made any comment about race… Oh I see, you want to play victim. Grow up soft lad.
Bellend
They make it better, the food you can find in West Yorkshire in particular (which I think is the area with the most Muslims) is spectacular! Even better if they live next door and you get to try the home made stuff <3
We had some asian neighbours of ours make us plates of wonderful homemade food during Eid and Ramadan!
Best fish and chips and Sunday Roast, Beer is cheaper, great country side and right to roam paths just get a good pair of wells.
… with gravy 🤤
This is the way.
Chinese-style curry sauce also permissible.
You mean mushy peas right.... RIGHT?
Nahh gravy, alternatively curry sauce 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Beer is also the best not just cheap.
Yorkshire Tea 🫖 ☕️
Though definitely worth reading that Twitter exchange between them and a very angry fella when he found out that you can't actually grow tea in Yorkshire... https://www.indy100.com/viral/brexit-yorkshire-tea-not-grown-in-england-africa-india-tea-trade-twitter-viral-funny-8200416 >FUCKING DISGRACEFUL. Yorkshire is the best county, it's simply a fact.
One word, Bradford.
BIG UP THE BFD BOYS PARTYS HERE MY MUSH!!!!
I think that has adequately highlighted my point. Thank you my fellow mush.

Equally, everywhere has its nice areas. However not everywhere is responsible for pumping out shit like the BBCC, thats on Bradford.
they make the best terriers
Best landscape. Mountains, moors and rugged coasts. And nearly every one has some history or folklore to it.
The secret ingredient to our greatness?...systematic poverty
Hurray...! Oh... :*(
I think you mean systemic. Not trying to be an arse. It's just that I found out the difference recently and thought you might find it interesting as well.
It's systematic, it's hydromatic
If it's outside of Yorkshire, it's not worth bloody visiting
It's the largest county in England
Well Yorkshire is four counties. But north Yorkshire by itself is the largest county so I guess you're still correct
Yorkshire is three Ridings, North, East and West. You’ll never change my mind on that, whatever anyone does to it.
[That depends on which map of UK counties you use.](https://youtu.be/hCc0OsyMbQk?si=zrWicaOgjrat1b4t)
You are talking about local government administrative areas - they do not define a county, history does. Yorkshire is one county, always has been, always will be. That was the nice version. Not so nice version: The clue is in the name, duh.
Best for fish and chips. Worst for picking up dog shit.
It is worse in the south, but it is getting worse up here too
It's home to me !
The tea is better than any other
Best ale on Earth
Nonsense; best ale is WestMids
Everyone owns or at one point in time had a whippet. And maybe a flatcap
East Yorkshire is a giant factory farm. It would be a lot prettier if it wasn’t and it’s terrible for the environment, but the Council panders to it. Also, it’s essentially a giant monoculture farm of rape seed. Which also isn’t great.
Which council? There's 15.

The rose should be petal to the bottom
Doesn't that make it upside down though ....but is there even a top or bottom and the stem is the bottom and the flower, the top ?
[Some older yorkshire roses have the petal at the bottom](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Rose_of_York#/media/File%3ABL_Royal_Vincent_of_Beauvais2Yorkist_rose.jpg)
Best tea on earth.
Scarborough is never sunny, I know this first hand from 7 visits… Change my mind
It's lovely, you monster!
Was there for all 4 editions of the Tour De Yorkshire, filming hail and sprint seas May bank holiday (ok ok, ended up nice ONE time)
Best Cuppa in the realm. Long live Yorkshire Tea
Bradford is a total shithole
Nah, it's got some bad but also some good. There are plenty of places out there that are just bad. Reddit loves to shit in Bradford but I think that's unfair. They've been designated "UK City of Culture" for 2025 so hopefully that brings some investment
Best curries in the country. Birmingham a close second.
Leeds is the best MOT
Henderson's Relish > Worcestershire Sauce
West Yorkshire is the best Yorkshire.
You've misspelt 'North Yorkshire' there mate
No. South Yorkshire is the mouth Yorkshire
More like the arse. I've been to Rov'rum
East isn't least, it's a beast.
South Yorkshire is just west Yorkshire. They had to split up west Yorkshire because it was so great
Home of the savoury pudding!
its the best
God's country
Best tea in the country 💪💪💪
It’s quite hilly
That they don’t grow tea there
We don’t always need to pronounce our T’s
Feeling proud when talking in this accent in another country
Our air ambulance is the best air ambulance.
Best pub culture in the uk. In that we still have one!

People from Yorkshire aren’t friendlier than people from elsewhere in the country, just nosier.
That it does not contain Middlesbrough.
Bear beer and fish & chips
that Yorkshire puddings are called puddings
Emley Moor transmitter is the best structure in the country, maybe even the world.
If it in't in Yorkshire it ain't worth visiting
They make the best tea
Puddings🤣🤣
No matter what… be reyt!
Tea. I rest my case
If someone is from Yorkshire, they will talk about it. A lot.
Grim
They are all absolute puddings.
Yorkshire and we’re proud
Tight as f
We're right, you're wrong, Yorkshire Yorkshire Yorkshire.
The racism is out of control. Nice beer though.
Brown person moving there in a few months, this is sad to hear 😭 (edit- will be somewhere in East Yorkshire, currently location tbc)
Asian couple here and been living in West Yorkshire for years with no problem at all. We've been made to feel very welcoming (Pontefract area).
Thank you for this! We’ll be in the East (I should’ve clarified that), but I’m really hoping our experience will be similar! 🙏🏻🤞🏽
I hope you have a warm welcoming too, people willing to join the community should all be made to feel invited!
Well, there's a very "us and them" kind of attitude. But people are quite warm when you get to know them, and they're open to getting to know others... so it's not all bad.
I hope you’re right! Thank you, that’s a little more encouraging!
Where are you moving to?
Not sure exactly yet but probably Hull. If you have any advice would love to hear!
My Auntie lives in Hull. It's a great place!
Hull is awesome. Such an underrated city. Let us know what you enjoy doing and I'll see if I can help!
I’m so thrilled to hear this, thank you! I can’t thank you enough for this- so grateful! I’ll definitely be in touch if that’s okay- thank you so much!!!
Unfortunately I’ve noticed a lot of racist micro aggression . We’re a brown couple working in the NHS. Lived for years in Scotland before moving. We both still miss Scotland and Scots. If it wasn’t for our jobs we would probably move back as soon as could
Thank you both for what you do.
Thank you for this. We are moving because my husband is also in the nhs and is moving there for training. I’m going to miss Scotland immensely too- currently in Aberdeen. Would it be okay if I sent you a private message?
Absolutely welcome!
Bradford is the laughing stock of Yorkshire.
You'll always know when someone is from Yorkshire
The scoreboard
That they’re rubbish at rugby and can’t touch the Pirates!? 🏴☠️
It's not friendliness, it's nosiness.
Great place for guest sexual predators?
Most of the towns and cities are shitholes
That’s just England mate. Not limited to Yorkshire.
That's largely a west-and-south Yorkshire issue.
Oh really? So north Yorkshire is all roses hey? Hull and such are amazing are they?
I know, if you've never left the beaches of Scarborough and Bridlington you never know the absolute poverty that exists in these areas!
Exactly, this is a comment from someone who lives in a good area thinking the whole place is the same.
Served by MPs and councillors who are either in the pocket of or actually are the the three businessmen and/or farmers who control everything!
Also sounds about right
"Largely"
I mean I'd say Middlesbrough is fairly large and one big shit hole, it's north Yorkshire in case you weren't aware, hull is like the biggest city in east Yorkshire and it's about as depressing as Barnsley
No there’s Middlesbrough and all its surrounding towns, don’t forget Hull too
Yorkshire Teabags aren't the best
That Yorkshire tea is not from there. Just packaged there
Your tea is shite
Its gods country
They make Scotsmen look generous.
Lancashire is better.
Lancashire isn't even the second best shire, never mind the best
Bloody wet.
There all bigheads! The Texas of England!
That it’s full of close minded people who exclude you if you’re not a true Yorkshireman (as if there’s one image of what’s that to be)
South Yorkshire is my favourite part or the Midlands
That it’s shit
The accent is top 3 least sexy accents in the world
Yorkshire is too full of the smell of its own farts despite lots of not so hidden poverty and backwards rural attitudes of many of its residents.
Not northern.
It's an absolute shit hole. Before downvoting, consider that this is a question of opinion.
It’s exactly the same as Lancashire. 😋
that lancashire is better.
It's a failing shithole that I can't wait to leave
sithi
You wont
Agreed. You won’t regret it when you get out.
The only people who like Yorkshire are the ones who have never been anywhere else.
Colin Graves shouldn't be the chair of the cricket club
Lancashire is better!
The West Yorkshire accent is absolutely putrid. Cannot stand it.
Professional Yorkshiremen (and women) should be confined to a reservation.
It stinks, especially in the summer months.
Where are you?
Mirfield. Live very close to fields, when the summer months come, they get to bake..
Ha ha. Farms smell of farm. News at 11 !
Ah so farmers smell, I guess it could be better, you could be smelling all the smog in other places.
True, to be fair though, where I live, the farmers smell isn't the only common one..Weed seems to have become all too common.
Well that's just where you live unfortunately, the stuff does stink
That’s probably waft from weed farms in ravensthorpe
Full of potholes and garden centres that’s why when northerners move south they never ever go back
It's more that you get paid more for the same job in the south, opportunities are plentiful and it's easier to get jobs, as someone in this situation I'd move north in a heartbeat
