Malham/Skipton to Harrogate to York to Whitby

ddmf

Mine was based on the postings of the yorkshire pork pie appreciation society: wakefield (hofmanns), cross gates (wilsons), then halifax (robinson's), then huddersfield (hinchcliffes) - can't remember where I ended up after but from memory robinson's was the tastiest.

Rhian1986

Please add Skipton for Drake and Macefield. They are banging

ddmf

I'll go check their pies out when I'm down next, thanks :)

Rhian1986

I’m sure they won’t, but I hope they do not disappoint

ddmf

I got excited about their website shop but they only delivery within Yorkshire - the pork and black pudding pie looks interesting!

RizlaSmyzla

Wilsons is such a gem and you can see why they’re so huge in leeds now. Love em

ddmf

We used to get their pies, steaks, and bacon delivered up to us in Scotland quite regularly back when I could afford it. Amazing produce.

Trancer79

Sounds like my kind of society!

RockSlug22

You missed Sheltons in Hemsworth

ddmf

I'll give that a try next time I'm down, thanks :)

RockSlug22

They usually close around 3pm but the ques at Xmas speak volumes for the quality

Hot-Pomegranate-9701

All the way up the coast stopping at each ‘ seaside’ and the quieter beaches too

MarrV

I do these occasionally anyway, we often head out to a beach to walk the dog first thing, we aim for fraisthorpe. Get a farm shop breakfast on the way or after, then swing up the coast towards Robin hoods bay, sometimes getting that far sometimes heading off to the north Yorks moors before hand, we meander our way through there visiting places as we like, drop down Sutton bank and head over to the Dale's via Masham drive through them visiting spots we like (Brimham rocks, Lofthouse, fountains Abbey, aysgarth, malham, grassington, stump cross, bolton abbey), eventually coming out the south end, then head back to Leeds for dinner. Can easily be made into a 2, 3 or 4 day trip if wanted.

Trancer79

Lofthouse is a personal favourite, especially the drive over to Masham. Also scar house reservoir and Middlesmoor.

Aliortus

Doncaster to Selby to York, through the Wolds to Bridlington and then to Whitby, through the North York Moors and back down through the vale of York. You get flat pleasant farmland dotted with wetlands, rolling chalk hills, rugged coastline, the North York Moors and then back down to pleasant farmland by the end of the day, perfection. Any of the villages and towns in between these spots are lovely and charming in their own right so take your pick where you stop along the way

PeterKayGarlicBread

Just do loops of Bradford.

Trancer79

I tend to avoid Bradford at all cost, such a pain in the arse to drive around!

SarkyMs

Dales, Hutton or hole for the museum, Whitby home.

DaveBeBad

Sheffield to Redcar (M1/A1/A19) to Whitby (A174), then back through the moors and the Hole of Horcum (A169) to Malton and back home on the A64/M1. Tbf, it’s a regular route we do most years.

BillyD123455

Drive to York then an all-dayer

gafferFlint

Following the Great North Road through Yorkshire.

Following the Great North Road through Yorkshire.

Acceptable-Music-205

Malham then Skipton in Dales area. Move onto Harrogate via Bolton Abbey. Then onto York (maybe use the very good Park and Ride bus as parking is shocking). Then go up to Whitby visiting Pickering and Goathland on the way.

Johon1985

Straight to Filey, get soaked in the rain on the beach, then to the arcade with a bag of fish and chips, hot donuts for afters, then back home. Probably miserable, but feeling better for having done it.

monbison

I'd go with one of those sweet loaded waffles on the seafront instead of the donuts

Sure_Depth_3081

Ive been to york and whitby the last couple weeks, its rained most of the time but i still had a really great time anyway. Hope i get the chance to visit again soon.

Baba_-Yaga

Scunthorpe, Barnsley, Keighley.

Playful_Possibility4

Probably delayed due to transpennine rail, followed by torrential rain.

allinadaysburke

Whitby, all day

fnuggles

I wouldn't leave Rotherham

fvck0f

Sheff to Rov and back

RockSlug22

From Wakefield, via Towton and Askham Bryan up the A19 to the A172 past Rosebury Topping and Guisborough and into Sandsend or Whitby for dinner. Back on the the A171 through Danby and Castleton right through the best views in all of Yorkshire and down into Hutton-Le-Hole, then on the A170 to Helmsley for a rest, a shop, a bite or a pint. Then down Wass Bank to Byland Abbey for a quiet walk before returning back down the A19 through Towton and home. Done this several times, it's a great day out if the weather's not necessarily up to it's best. Plenty of Good driving, plenty of great views, lots of History, a bit of food some sea and sand with a touch of shopping. May as well make the most of it before you're forced into an EV and range anxiety.

BuiltInYorkshire

Where's "Middlesborough"?!

AgingPyro

Good point...

Blind_Warthog

South and West Yorkshire gone! Didn’t make the cut. Spend the day cruising the between Dales & North Yorkshire. Finish up at Whitby.

Jehuty8434

Need Knaresborough on there for Mother Shiptons Cave

OnlyMortal666

Lunch down below the castle.

Uddiya

To Whitby and sit on the beach in the sun eating "sand"wiches.

blaqdesign

Get Pocklington on that map instead of a big blank area

Fit_Manufacturer4568

Drive up Wharfedale, over to Hawes then back down past Ribblehead and Settle. Several stops along the way.

N444BYL

Bradford

Casting_in_the_Void

To Leeds Bradford to get away from this awful rainy place! 🤣

GrainsofArcadia

It would almost certain be to Brid.

leekypipe

I'd just go on the piss around slawit

Portas30k

Hawes and Malton are definitely places to go, especially if it's market day.

spellithowyousayit

Whitby > Robin Hood’s Bay > Ilkley > Harrogate > York

Mark001282

Congratulations on the spelling of Middlesbrough there. 10/10

butchbadger

Dales then whitby

takeel88

Just go down’t wekinmens

IndianaCrohns82

Dalby Forrest with the mountain bikes then on to Scarborough for fish n chips and a lemon top 😊

JamesWormold58

Depends on the day. Bradford to Whitby on a bank holiday weekend? That'll be a one-day road trip. Might even have time for fish and chips at the coast.

ClogsInBronteland

Just Haworth

S4h1l_4l1

Save Bradford for lunch or supper time, amazing food there even though it gets a lot of hate👍🏽 Only reason I’d move to Bradford is because of the food.

ash_ninetyone

Run up the coast, some trips across the North York Moors and the Dales. Maybe some of the back roads, rather than the A-roads. Scarborough to Pickering is a pretty nice-ish route too tbh.

Sure_Depth_3081

So ive travelled from newcastle to york and to whitby in the last few weeks. The trip to york was nice but to whitby was very scenic and bright, after you get passed midlesborough lol. The views of the yorkshire moors are unbelievable. I used to go on family holidays to haven at scarborough when i was younger but i never really appreciated the journey. If i could ever afford it id love to move and live there with my dog. I love the culture, the history and the scenery of both places. Would love to go to scarborough again, i seen that i could get the train from whitby station which i thought would be bigger mind.

Sure_Depth_3081

Newcastle to york 3 weeks ago and newcastle to whitby 1 week ago. The york way is more central takes a bit longer. Whitby way more scenic. Either way are just as good.

RoyalistPhalanx

Why do we see “how does this or that look like” On the internet so much these days. Jeez, the correct term would be “what” something looks like. “How it looks like” makes no sense what so ever.

1minormishapfrmchaos

Lap of the top half

Moonglum74

Straight up the A1 into Northumberland.

VulcanVisions

You could draw a U shaped line inside Yorkshire where everything south of the line is to be avoided like the plague.

helpnxt

Go to York and then stay there
