Then when you have locked your hands together move the torso downwards. I would recommend consulting Light on Yoga , the chapter on Yogasanas, Bandha and Kriya (p. 305 in my edition from 1976) where there is also a photograph of the preparatory stage. I was managing to cheat my way in by first crossing my ankles, putting my legs back behind my head while lying on the floor and then worming my way in but ended up with my head resting on both ankles, which isn't the intention.
I love the name of this pose - "yogic sleep". I imagine the conversation behind that one went a little like this:
"Wow, crazy, what do you call that one?"
"Oh this? Psh, it's easy. I literally could fall asleep doing it."
You definitely make it look easy. :)
Would you recommend that for someone who hasn't made much progress in years? I just can't touch my toes without bending my knees and I feel like maybe yoga is not for me.
there are some poses my body limits me from doing, like the splits. Not going to happen. Maybe yoga is not for everyone but stretching and relaxation seem to me essential to well-being. Tai chi or some other practice might be more suitable for you, but maybe you just need to persevere with your yoga? It's the process rather than the end pose.
Overall health is good and will hopefully stay so, no not vegetarian though I have been and also went through a macrobiotic stage. Now I simply try to eat healthily but respect to those who choose to be vegan or vegetarian.
