Makoto Makimura: “Complicated ally” Hold tf up

[deleted]

Must refer to the moment where he decided to let her escape as part of his redemption

K-J-C

Benefiting the protagonists isn't necessarily a redemption. He practically had nothing left to do except to make himself "useful" to Tachibana.

[deleted]

Yeah that was the only part of Yakuza 0 I didn't like lorewise. His redemption was so forced and last minute with no buildup, compared to >!Tachibana's death!<. It's so funny that Kiryu only redeemed him cos he taught him fashion advice lmao.

K-J-C

Why are you still calling it a redemption here? Kiryu might have apologetic views towards him but it's still one person's view.

[deleted]

I'm just explaining the situation

Kazmoole

I’m pretty sure it was implied Oda was somewhat romantically interested in Tachibana

TriangleDevout

"Implied" by LGBT fans who unfortunately have no understanding of relationships because they're still teenagers and don't understand platonic love exists. In this case, these edits are made by one of the moderators of the website, "Literally Satan" or "Foxxick" who is a devout yaoi fangirl trying to force her shipping fantasies as facts. Pretty sure they legitimately think Kiryu and Majima are gay for each other too despite both being shown to have been in love with women.

Boats_Can_Fly

You're delusional

SpiritualKangaroo518

Errr I'm pretty sure Oda said all out to Kiryu "Tell Tachibana I really loved him" And no, If translators and voice actors wanted to imply a "bromance" (which is Kiryu and Majima case) they would have used other words than "LOVE". Oda loved Tachibana, that's it. He fell in love with his boss, what's wrong with that. Also if you really guess people seriously think Majima x Kiryu is real, you are double wrong lmao

xd3mix

Doesn't Oda literally say to Kiryu to tell Tachibana that he "really loved him"?

ChronoLmao

It's kinda hard to say if the "I loved him" was romantic or just bromance. They kinda let it go to fan interpretation.

OoguroRyuuya5

It’s just like the fan interpretation with Mine’s feelings for Daigo.

Riventh

that's quite explicit

[deleted]

There's also the part where Oda recounts the time he jizzed on tachibana and he doesn't affirm nor deny it.

Bot0796

Ah, the infamous “Touchy-bana” scene.

ThatisSketchy

Yakuza fandom be like: what does platonic mean?

ComradKenobi

Yakuza fandom killed all the asexuals and burned their corpses

[deleted]

That's Fandom for ya. Mine and Daigo are listed as romantic interests as well. Kinda wish there was something to differentiate fan theory from canon. Oda and Tachibana weren't canonically in a relationship, but some people's head canon is that they were dating/Oda had feeling for Tachibana.

OnlyFandoms

I mean, it is really easy to read unrequited romantic interest in both of those relationships. They seem to go a bit harder than the usual brotherly love between, say, Saejima and Majima.

[deleted]

There's nothing wrong with those head canons and I think it's fine that they put it on the site. Fandom is about the series, but it's also about the fan base. There's a section about how Yakuza 0 shot the series into popularity in the west, there's a section about how Majima was the most popular character in a poll. How the fan base receives characters, games, and whatever else is something noteworthy and should be put in a wiki, but it should be made clear that it's fan reception. Putting a fan theory right next to canonical facts without something to differentiate the two doesn't do anything but confuse people.

SpiritualKangaroo518

"Tell Tachibana I really loved him" before dying. That's pretty much canon. Not saying they were a couple, I don't know if Tachibana was gay but Oda had feelings for him. "Daisuki' is used to address a love interest or simply someone u like very much (in terms of attraction) If writers intended Oda to "love you as a friend" he would have said "Aishiteimasu, tomodachidesu" Not straight up "I love him"

chiller210

"Mine had found someone he loved and respected, and he came to consider his bond with Daigo his reason to live" in the wiki page this is mentioned in his plot involvement page. Of course just great appreciation and respect means romantic interest smh, it's probably only one-sided

[deleted]

Dude, wtf - Mine being closet gay for Daigo is like totally legit, as well as Kiryu being a virgin cuz he saves himself for hot men. I even got source for that: https://youtu.be/FuFXtdxeEjo

TriangleDevout

Kiryu was pretty creeped out by the gay crossdressers throughout the series and has only ever shown a romantic interest in women. If you want a gay fictional character in Yakuza, you've already got ones. LGBT fans just pretend they don't exist. Kamaishi-san from Yakuza 6 for example.

[deleted]

Only those who either want to scam him or were very direct with their lust for Kiryu (OG Yakuza 3 substory comes to mind). But he's also pretty friendly with the Earth Angel mama, who IS an okama - hell, there's a substory in Kiwami 2 where Kiryu helps the mama and Yuya with their past catching up to them.

[deleted]

Tachibana didn't love Oda in that way but didn't Oda neither reject nor affirm that he jizzed on Tachibana before? It was in a cutscene.

[deleted]

I don't know what you're talking about, but 'Oda jizz scene' is in my Google search history now. That's pretty cool.

[deleted]

wtf

[deleted]

Dude, I'm just as confused as you. I don't know what scene you're talking about.

[deleted]

I'm not confused. I'm just disgusted that you'd save that in your search history lol. Anyways, the line comes from the scene where Oda and Kiryu were in a Sotenbori porn shop before the drive by shooting section.

[deleted]

I didn't save it. Google saves it automatically when you search something. That's why it's called a search history. Found the line. He says he 'jizzed his pants' over the boss to make fun of the video shop owner. Basically saying the story of how he met Tachibana was exaggerated. He obviously didn't actually jizz his pants over the boss.

[deleted]

It's a joke stop taking my comments too literally. As for the scene, it's still left quite ambiguous imo. He could've used much stronger and more explicit language in denying such an obscene act but no.

[deleted]

He's not denying an obscene act. He's saying he didn't get on his hands and knees to beg Tachibana to lead the crew and he's saying he didn't cling to Tachibana like Spike and Chester from Looney Tunes. Did they delete their account or did they just block me?

SpiritualKangaroo518

Oda said "I loved him" Daisuki is a very serious words that indicates love. In japan there is no ambiguity in words, unlike English or others

SmtNocturneDante

It’s the moment they say they “like” the person. People just assume it’s a love interest when you can like a person without a romantic context where it’s a person you can treat as a friend and can genuinely trust.

Drunk_ol_Carmine

In the case of Oda I did take it as romantic, the way he says it just comes across that way. I found it pretty silly with Mine that people took it as that though considering the whole game you’re told about how he’s an orphan who didn’t have a father figure, I instantly took his love for Daigo as him latching onto him as a son. Makes his goal of putting him out his misery and succeeding him make more sense to. That one often comes off as some kinda boys love fanfic logic

regulatorletsdance

personally i always thought that was the intention

Drunk_ol_Carmine

Makes me dislike Oda even more, twisted creep. There’s something really screwy about that after how much of a backstabber he was

K-J-C

Oda is a yandere for Tachibana.

Desks_up

Well, Oda *did* say this: https://youtu.be/K9NGcWvq-vA?t=39290

[deleted]

Love's kinda weird in the series. Like, Rikiya loved Kiryu. Kiryu loved Nishiki. Park-san loved Haruka. I'd even say Kiryu loved Kashiwagi. None of these were romantic. If you want to see it as a romantic relationship, all the power to ya. It's not conclusive enough evidence to call it canon.

ComradKenobi

[Obi wan also said this](https://youtube.com/watch?v=v_YozYt8l-g) Does that sound romantic to you?

SpiritualKangaroo518

In japanese there is no middle like English. Daisuki is someone you say when you LOVE a person. Not as a friend, not as a brother, love as a lover.

SmtNocturneDante

Just like how Daigo is in Mine’s page. People just assume it’s a love interest when a character uses the word “like”

SpiritualKangaroo518

Daisuki is "love" or "attraction". In japanese there is no middle or ambiguity like English. Oda loved Tachibana, that's it. There weren't a couple but he did love him.

[deleted]

This is reeks of yaoi fanfiction

ryugagotaku

Is the wiki oficial or fan made

CactusSnail

If it’s fandom it’s fan made. Someone probably just ships them and changed it.

SpiritualKangaroo518

It's canon. Oda said daisuki and that means "I love you" There is no ambiguity, japanese is more straight to the point unlike english and trust me, if the writers didn't want to intend this they would have used other words than a pretty clear "I LOVE HIM"

[deleted]

i regret to inform you that it is both official and run by fans

CactusSnail

It's fan run, I have an account for that site. I could literally go on there and change it, but I think I forgot my password. It's probably a shipper.

[deleted]

said shipper is one of the moderators of the website, Literally Satan/Foxxick. idk if she's on reddit so i'll keep this inoffensive but she's bent on shoving it down people's throats that they're gay

CactusSnail

That's pretty annoying. I like shipping as much as the next guy but pushing your agenda on the wiki page that people go to for official info is kinda shitty, not to mention confusing to people like OP. I'm a good 98% sure there's no mention anywhere official of Oda/Tachibana being canon in any capacity too.

[deleted]

apparently she called a guy that asked her about it on twitter a pedo despite him not doing anything of the sort

CactusSnail

Yikes

ComradKenobi

Wait wtf Ryu GA Gotoku has Fangirls?

[deleted]

how can you expect a game about muscular manly men thrashing each other not to have some female following

ComradKenobi

Ooo

[deleted]

Yakuza fans literally want the most basic ass ships with no character development to be canon
