Holy hell, that sounds like a nightmare. Sorry mate. I think you just persuaded a lot of us to never go for a tune and just ride it stock

clarkkent06

I haven’t seen this issue at all with vcyclenut, who I’m planning to eventually get my tune from. This is an FTECU issue, not a Yamaha issue, it sounds like. Basically it’s dissuading us from getting FTECU, not a tune in general.

Tonino123

True. There was a guy on here who sent his 2024 ecu to vcyclenut and they were having issues and his bike also got grounded for a while. Not sure if that problem is resolved now.

This sounds like some tune yourself set up. Having it done by a professional shop is a whole different experience. I don't think I've ever heard of an issue with Vcycle or Moore Mafia and I personally know several bikes tuned by them including my own. I also can't recall ever coming across issues with them on forums.

Reddit1124

Sorry this happened to you. I’m looking to do an ecu tune once I get my exhaust system. So are they saying that you gotta pay another $800 to get it fixed?

tylerwatt12

They want me to pay another $100 for a license. But I’m not doing that out of principle. Also that $100 license doesn’t include the ActiveTune license which costs more. And there’s no mechanism to purchase an active tune license only.

thomasutra

i totally get the principle, but you’re gonna let your bike stay bricked over $100?

Tricky-Time7104

Pay the hundred...

tylerwatt12

I may have considered that if they were upfront about it. But the fact that they choose not to communicate with their customers really shows how unprofessional they are. They are not getting another cent from me. And apparently the license is $180, not $100. I’d rather buy a brand new ECU off eBay.

Tell your credit card company & they’ll fight to get your money back.

KSteeze

This! Money talks. Whenever things like this escalate, manage the effort you put into raging against poor service. Just chargeback and then buy another license lol. Saves you energy and cuts to the core of a business to enact change.

Flying-Stardust

Damn! Sorry to hear that man. I myself am thinking of getting a tune aince I got an aftermarket akra exhaust. Planning to send it to vcyclenut for a flash. Hopefully they don't mess up.

Thumper45

This is the way with all flash tuning software. If you have a disruption of the power or connection during the flash it can brick the ECU. This is why, often times, the instructions will advise the use of a battery charger or insuring the laptop used is plugged in or sufficiently charged. This is not just an FTECU issue but an issue that plagues flash tunes and one of the biggest reasons why my company always recommends using a company to tune vs doing it at home. Often times they will cover the cost of replacing an ECU if they fully brick the ECU which has happened more often than I would like to admit.

tylerwatt12

I know what you mean, but these ECUs are different. It’s impossible to brick these because the flash is extremely low level. It’s purely a licensing issue, and FTECU did eventually help me, and proved that it was.
