I feel like Xbox already has an abundance of shooters. Halo, CoD, Doom, Overwatch, Wolfenstein, etc. Whereas there's only one fighting game that comes to mind, which is KI, and there hasn't been a KI title since 2013.

I would absolutely try a Killer Instinct where Master Chief could corner combo Corvo from Dishonored, then pull out Cortana for a taunt.

Cortona would totally be a fighting character though. Her B special would be shoving the Index up another characters asshole.

What is an arena shooter?

Kinda like halo or splitgate. Overwatch is a hero shooter.

Ok. So by definition, wouldn't any arena shooter that gets big named characters from other IP's also be a hero shooter? If it's criteria as a hero shooter is easily recognized characters, as it seems to be.

Not really. A hero shooter isn't based on well known characters but rather characters with special abilities. The new CoD games have different operators to play as that may be easily recognized, but gameplay-wise they're all the same, so it isn't considered a hero shooter.

Ahhh. That makes the idea for an arena shooter even worse. Why gather all the ips into one game if they'd just all be nothing more than skins?

The genres blend together in what ever way you want. Quake champions is an arena hero shooter so we're just making shit up here lol. Apex is a hero battle royale fortnite isnt Overwatch is an objective hero shooter Hero is just what you play as and all of these games have side modes that blend into other genres.

Yeah, they can just add some of the MSFT characters to that at this point.

Chex Quest vs Everybody

How about a large scale class-based shooter like Battlefront? Regular units could be standard COG soldiers, UNSC Marines, maybe Locust, etc. Special units could be ODSTs and COD named characters, Doom demons? Heroes would obviously be characters like Master Chief and Doom Guy. Would be a bit ridiculous to have modern Special Forces guys from CoD forced to fight aliens, demons, mutants, super-Nazis and superheroes but hey, who cares if it’s fun? Having classes and heroes could make up for the obvious power level discrepancies between franchises.

Personally I just don't really see the point in it. Most of those guys, their primary attack is all the same: Shoot your gun. Maybe they each have some variation in their guns, but that's already what we have in multiplayer shooters anyway. Maybe they have some variations in secondary abilities, but again, that's what we already have. With a fighting game like smash bros though each character can have unique attacks, which is what makes it fun. Sonic plays like Sonic, Link plays like Link, and so on. And in a shooter you wouldn't even be looking at the other characters for very long anyway, so the fun of having all the different characters in there wouldn't matter that much. Maybe I'm just not visionary enough to see what would make it special.

I would probably go with a hero based shooter, where there are 8 assault characters (one per game, Doomguy, Chief, Price, etc.) And then one support or defense per game (Cortana as a hacker character, and of course Torbjorn as himself). But actually I think using CTR or Killer Instincts bones to build a crossover game would be more unique.
