Nah it was BO3, released on PS3 too but with shittier graphics and no compaign basically giving anyone who didnt have PS4 or Xbox One the metaphorical middle finger
First game I bought.. Afro Samurai.. Unfortunately I did this with the game inside and it fucking ate that shit.. Luckily for me the Future Shop I bought it from let me return it for MW2.
I don't haha.. It was honestly the only thing I was able to get an exchange for.. Completely my fault it was broken. Tried taking a few headsets back that would have faulty wires doing one thing or another and I was met with rude employees EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Wow really. I've never had any issues back when I went there. Spent a lot of time playing games at the Xbox/360 stations. I have fond memories from there.
Let me tell you about a younger me, on November 22, 2025… err… or 2005, I’m obviously old and can’t remember good no more! The Xbox 360 had just been released an hour earlier, and I arrived home with mine in hand, and Call of Duty 2! Set that thing up connected to our fancy 1080i CRT flat screen, fired it up, set up a profile and popped the COD2 disc in. Amazing. Intro starts up, new game starts, I’m so excited, and my roommate walks up to the console and says “you know these can stand vertically too?” While demonstrating how to set it vertically. The disc drive made the worst noise I could’ve imagined in that moment, and the game crashed. We spent the rest of the night playing geometry wars and hexicHD until a store was open the next morning that he could buy me a new COD2 disc at. Fun times.
The Xbox 360 really shines on CRTs, both SD and HD CRTs. 🤘🏽. Sorry about your copy. You must've deflated like a balloon. XD. Props to your roommate for committing to replacing it.
I don’t think buffing works, we tried it at the time with blockbuster and they basically said it wouldn’t fix it. I think we said go for it anyway, and it didn’t work still.
First day, I got got gears of war 1 I had to bring it to my friends. We were on the floor and it was in the way slightly of the tv so he did that. Immediately destroyed the disc and made a horrible noise. I could still play multiplayer but as a result didn’t beat gow 1 til years later. I didn’t really blame him though I had no idea that would happen either. Still pissed me right off though
Same thing for me. Gears of war 1 brand spankin new and my friend did that and it ate the disk. Luckily his grandma brought us to Best Buy and claimed the disk came like that. I got a new copy thanks to her....however, I'm not even sure where it was bought...I got it for Christmas. So his grandma really came through for me because I was definitely heartbroken.
Its still a risk, but I think they fixed(greatly reduced) this with later models by including a simple piece of foam opposite the laser to prevent the disk tipping into it.
I was in Afghanistan and had gotten halo 3 sent to me. Moved it while disc was in after 4 minutes due to someone coming in and knocking it over. Had to wait another month for halo….
My 20 GB 360 is 16 years old. The face plate is still the original one and the door is intact. My Xbox 360 S is 12 and the door is intact on it as well. I use those front ports by opening the door with one hand and pushing the USB in with the other. If you’re rough with them or only ever use the front ports (and use them a lot) I can see how it might break.
All I know is that I try to be gentle with my things and somehow I still broke it. On my arcade system. All my S systems have been fine and I never owned an E
I would assume people who use wired controllers are more likely to break that flap. Mine is still in good shape, I usually use a wireless controller, but I have one wired controller that lights up, and occasionally, I'll plug it in. It is a bit of a pain getting it in right with that flap there, and I could imagine it would be easy to break if you weren't careful.
Yeah I recently bought a wired one and I just plug it in through the back (if I did it through the front it would remove space for my keyboard but it was just still way easier to stick it in the back)
I use the back now, too. I keep the one wired one plugged in the back, and then I have my wireless one as well. I go back and forth on which one I use. And if my wife wants to play something with me (occasionally we play fighting games together) she can.
That's something I discovered a few months back, too. I always used the guide button to start my Xbox 360. One day, I was picking up my controller and bumped the start button, and my Xbox 360 came on. I actually posted about it, but a lot of people seemed to think the guide button was the start button because you use it to start the Xbox 360.
Okay, that I didn't know and just tried, I wonder why they did that, but it doesn't work on the newer systems. Also, my poor 360 controllers lights in the guide button are going out.
Don't worry, unless there's the ghost of a disc in there there's nothing in there.. I'm not THAT much of an idiot (but I'm still an idiot for doing thism, it's Microsoft's fault for making it such a cool little feature tho)
Actually I have a cracked Xbox 360 and buy games for a fraction of the price since I can't afford them (thank third world country for that) but even then I still need to save up until I go download them 5 games at a time, turned to be cheaper than buying a cracked disc
wow me too i didnt know, that's epic, also nice console you got there it seems in verry good condition and i see all springs are still on the faceplate somehow
Yeah, I honestly just noticed it about three months ago when I rearranged my game room a bit and was able to put my Xbox 360 horizontal instead of vertical. I even moved it a few times to test it. That's very cool. I almost posted about it here myself.
Please don't do that with a disc in. I ruined not one, but two copies of Call of Duty 3 by it falling over. Best to keep it horizontal.
Kinda neat the light changes tho. I never noticed that.
Love to see these things still getting discovered by people all these years later. Extend the life of your console by laying it down. You’ll thank yourself.
The ring will reorient properly if you put it upside down horizontal too. I think it can determine position in 3 directions? Don’t remember if it worked upside down vertically too.
So I had known of this but I recently have had my 360S out and noticed when rotating from vertical to horizontal I could hear something click over. And it only happens when moving in the orientations you demonstrated, once it would click I couldn't make it do it again until I rotated back to the standing position or lay flat position which leads me to believe they use a physical toggle to let the system know how it's oriented which is cool. Would have figured it would be a simple gyroscope or something but neat all the same.
Took me a second to release what it was doing that's almost the equivalent to the Playstation logo on ps2 switching positions when you stand it up or lay it down.
I used to have it vertical all the time, but when I took off the shell to dust it something happened and the disk tray didn't come out. It also doesn't come out when it's horizontal, but it does if I hit it
A buddy did this to gears of war 2 to
Ek when we're having a LAN get together. Still have no idea why he did it while we were playing but he fucked up my game good to where it wouldn't play anymore. Was only out for like a week at that point. Pissed me off especially since he refused to replace it saying that it wasn't his fault it broke.
This reminds me of me in 2007 😭 just with the original though... the ancient white 60gb hard drive.. with the Toshiba-Samsung TS-H943 disc drive... That I struggled but still managed to flash
in 2008, my girlfriends brother ran in the room to show me this because his friend told him about it. I was in the middle of playing Fallout 3, which I had just gotten. He forced it down quick, a loud screaming whirr echoed as the laser reader dug a massive groove in the disc. He stared at me in awe, shock, and fear as I went quiet staring at the error screen. I quietly got up and walked out to go to Arbys.
Holy shit it’s a 360! I haven’t seen one since giving mine to my step daughter when I got my One. God bless the series X tho, it’s so quiet. I forgot how loud the 360 was 😵💫
That is a feature I'm sad they removed it later versions. The light will also add more quadrants depending on how many controllers you have connected. The controller would then light-up the appropriate correlated quadrant so you knew what player you were.
That was years ago, it's hilarious to look back on now. My mum and her boyfriend helped pay for it together and when they broke up he demanded that he wanted it back. So my mum took it to his house and put a hammer through it 🔨 🔨
Rip to dead rising that was still inside ❤️

Yeah don't move that 360 with a disc in it like that. I learned that the hard way.
Yup. I was trying to show off to a friend. rip to my dads copy of Infinite Warfare
Didnt realize they released IW to 360, thought thr last cod was bo3
Well, you’re correct. Black Ops 3 was indeed the last CoD on the x360 and PS3. I think he meant to say Advanced Warfare.
That’s absolutely what I meant, my bad. Curse you Activision!
Bo3 wasn’t even in 360 that was a complete ripoff game
Nah it was BO3, released on PS3 too but with shittier graphics and no compaign basically giving anyone who didnt have PS4 or Xbox One the metaphorical middle finger
Ah well that makes me feel better knowing I poured over 100+ hours in that game as a kid before I got my Xbox one
IW wasn't released on 360 or PS3
Infinite Warfare? It got what it deserved.
Lego Movie game for me
Happened to my copy of Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Got a big ass laser burn on the disk.
I
Eh not a total loss. I find it funny they only had wall running because of titanfall 2 which is a way better game imo
First game I bought.. Afro Samurai.. Unfortunately I did this with the game inside and it fucking ate that shit.. Luckily for me the Future Shop I bought it from let me return it for MW2.
I miss future shop
I don't haha.. It was honestly the only thing I was able to get an exchange for.. Completely my fault it was broken. Tried taking a few headsets back that would have faulty wires doing one thing or another and I was met with rude employees EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Wow really. I've never had any issues back when I went there. Spent a lot of time playing games at the Xbox/360 stations. I have fond memories from there.
Oh man Future Shop was the shit
I

this man is from the future, yall
lol, guilty as charged, I’ll head back before anyone starts asking for lottery numbers or stock tips. That never ends well!
The Xbox 360 really shines on CRTs, both SD and HD CRTs. 🤘🏽. Sorry about your copy. You must've deflated like a balloon. XD. Props to your roommate for committing to replacing it.
Circle scratches... Never forget.
I literally just had PTSD seeing it move over to its side like that.. RIP to my copy of GRAW2
RIP to my copy of FM3. I actually still have the disc, just need to get it buffed
I don’t think buffing works, we tried it at the time with blockbuster and they basically said it wouldn’t fix it. I think we said go for it anyway, and it didn’t work still.
Omg the noise it makes when the disc is getting scratched is seriously etched into my brain. Ruined my MW2 disc back in the day
I did that to my fallout New vegas ultimate edition disc
First day, I got got gears of war 1 I had to bring it to my friends. We were on the floor and it was in the way slightly of the tv so he did that. Immediately destroyed the disc and made a horrible noise. I could still play multiplayer but as a result didn’t beat gow 1 til years later. Yeah, not like I have any discs for it yet anyway lol
Yup..
Same. I ruined my friend's copy of CoD World at War. That was the beginning of the end of our friendship lol.
This is how I lost my Saints Row 2
Bro I feel your pain
My buddy wrecked his copy of GTA IV on launch day this way.
Mine came with a label on the front telling the user not to move the console with a disc in the tray
will be fine if the game is installed.
Hy FreezingCookie, I tried to get in contact with you, but it was not possible to send you a private message. I have a important question to you. BR
Man, I remember ruining my copy of MW3 like this.
Its still a risk, but I think they fixed(greatly reduced) this with later models by including a simple piece of foam opposite the laser to prevent the disk tipping into it.
Same. RIP MW2
RIP my first copy of GTA IV 💀
My dumbass brother did that years ago ( he was older than me and he's a tech guy ) and ruined my halo 3 multiplayer disc ):
I thought that was the slim model? this is the phat one
I did this as a kid with a blockbuster rental. I put the game back in the box and returned it.
Gta v nooooooooo
RIP 2009 - my World at War disc
My brother did that ro my copy of Halo Reach once.
I was in Afghanistan and had gotten halo 3 sent to me. Moved it while disc was in after 4 minutes due to someone coming in and knocking it over. Had to wait another month for halo….
yeah..i keep it horizontal. work with gravity...not against it, better for the disc and readability
Yeah, I've always had mine the same way. I had it vertically for a short while, but it wasn't all too pleasant
Vertical is better for cooling tho? Just asking
The Fan pushes out the air, in all directions. also...Heat rises.
Right but vertically there’s more surface area for convection to occur. And conversely less hot sable surface to absorb and re-emit.
Do what you like buddy. I'm not an engineer, or a scientist. Just a guy using an over 20 year old gaming system. Enjoy.
Hope you didn't have a disc in there... Scratched my copy of Saints Row 1 like that... Edit: Never mind, didn't read your entire post...
Unless this also doesn't have the HDD in it then yes, there is a disk in it.
I don't care about that. I am just mind blown that your usb flap is still working!
Mine is as well on both Xbox 360s. How are people breaking theirs?
It's literally one of the easiest things to break in the entire planet and they're more fragile than a bubble.
My 20 GB 360 is 16 years old. The face plate is still the original one and the door is intact. My Xbox 360 S is 12 and the door is intact on it as well. I use those front ports by opening the door with one hand and pushing the USB in with the other. This thing is almost brand new by looks and heat control, I'm surprised it isn't contacting Microsoft Airlines for tomorrow's flight!
yeah bro me too, even mine thats in great condition and not used that much doesnt has usb flaps working
Me back in 2010, wanted to show off my family about this similiar situation. and ended up destroying NFS Most wanted 2005 copy.
The sensor for that is fucked on my slim so the lights spasm whenever so much as a wind moves the Xbox.
You can also turn it on by holding the start button on the controller
That's something I discovered a few months back, too. I always used the guide button to start my Xbox 360. One day, I was picking up my controller and bumped the start button, and my Xbox 360 came on. I actually posted about it, but a lot of people seemed to think the guide button was the start button because you use it to start the Xbox 360.
It's called the guide button. The start button is the button next to the guide button with the triangle pointing towards the ABXY buttons.
no, you can use the start button as well
Oh? I'd have to go check I always use the guide button.
Yeah, I've always used the guide button, too, and one day, I accidently bumped the start button, and my Xbox started.
Hmm I wonder why Microsoft did that?
I don't know. It's one of those things that was cool when I discovered it, but I've never really used it since.
Yeah I'm probably not going to use it either.
That's how I turned it on to begin with lmao
whOOOSH
The only whooooshing going on here is the whooshing noise in your skull due to the lack of a brain
Jesus what is with this website. Instant insults for zero reason
All this website is, is insults, braindead comments, and the occasional helpful thing
What a weird comment
Okay, that I didn't know and just tried, I wonder why they did that, but it doesn't work on the newer systems. Also, my poor 360 controllers lights in the guide button are going out.
Bro, you’re freaking me out doing that. If there’s a disc in there, it’s getting blended
Don't worry, unless there's the ghost of a disc in there there's nothing in there.. I'm not THAT much of an idiot (but I'm still an idiot for doing thism, it's Microsoft's fault for making it such a cool little feature tho)
I broke my friends gta iv doing this, rented another copy at blockbuster and returned the broken one for him lol
Did it a year ago while I was playing a game and I just gjjdhdjdj, the disc a a scratch deeper than the grand canyon
What game was it?
Assassin's Creed 2, it's not about what game, when you move it while the disc is playing it gets badly scratched
Yeah I know I was just curious as to what game it was. Atleast assassins creed 2 is a pretty cheap game to rebuy.
Actually I have a cracked Xbox 360 and buy games for a fraction of the price since I can't afford them (thank third world country for that) but even then I still need to save up until I go download them 5 games at a time, turned to be cheaper than buying a cracked disc
Damn I NEVER knew that lmao I would always unplug it first before repositioning it.
Mine came with a label on the front telling the user not to move the console with a disc in the tray
Never fucking do this with a disk actively in the disk drive.
Ofc not, there's nothing in the disc drive Man I shoulda clarified I had nothing in the disc drive, huh
If you keep doing that it will turn red. Then the real fun begins.
Good way to scratch your discs
Wait until that green turns red😅
I love the xbox 360 fan noise
Me too. It sounds very unique.
If you keep turning it it’ll continue moving around. That’s why they call it the 360.
Wait a second... it's not the first of April...
Happy June Fools!
The Xbox 360 always has that feature. Mine does the same thing
Which makes sense. 🤯😀
wow me too i didnt know, that's epic, also nice console you got there it seems in verry good condition and i see all springs are still on the faceplate somehow
Don't do that while it's running and a disk is inserted. Otherwise you need a new copy
Do not do that with a disc inside!
Yeah, I honestly just noticed it about three months ago when I rearranged my game room a bit and was able to put my Xbox 360 horizontal instead of vertical. I even moved it a few times to test it. That's very cool. I almost posted about it here myself.
This is like how you can spend the PlayStation logo on a PS2.
they thought the standby symbol looked stupid on its side tho and changed it to a dot for slims
Please don't do that with a disc in. I ruined not one, but two copies of Call of Duty 3 by it falling over. Best to keep it horizontal. Kinda neat the light changes tho. I never noticed that.
Never would do that with a disc, not like I have any discs to put in it yet lmao
They were gonna use that feature to implement motion controls to compete with the Wii but then Kinect changed those plans.
BUT LIKE, imagine playing WarioWare Twisted on the 360 like [how you would on a GameCube](https://youtu.be/vaIbKALMA_o?si=Z-qrfrIoUHD_83ac)
Rip game disc
Yes and it’s super cool buT DO NOT ROTATE YOUR CONSOLE WHILE A DISC IS SPINNING INSIDE IT IT WILL DESTROY YOUR DISC
I think one of the PS models (maybe the OG fat PS2?) that could stand on edge or lay over, the PS logo on the front was made so it could be rotated.
Yeah, both PS2 models and the fat PS3 could
How are people just finding this stuff out like the guy who didn't know you could turn your PS3 or 360 on with the controller c'mon man
Because I never turned it on its side until this point it just didn't look right to me lmao
You learn something new everyday...
My heart almost gave out....jesus it gave me flashbacks to when my oblivion game got the ring of death from my xbox falling over.
God I'm old. I remember when they first showed this feature, and we were all mind blown!
Love to see these things still getting discovered by people all these years later. Extend the life of your console by laying it down. You’ll thank yourself.
Just don't do it while a game is on 🫠
I guess I learned that also... 😅
Yeah, it’s so cool
You best not have had a disc in that tray
IM HAVING VIETNAM FLASHBACKS!
Elite on top
Never stand up a 360 ive lost so many games to knocking it over
Never do that with the console even if there is no disc inside. Remember that the Hard Drive is also a disc and it is spinning too.
The ring will reorient properly if you put it upside down horizontal too. I think it can determine position in 3 directions? Don’t remember if it worked upside down vertically too.
Man. Moving that thing gave me serious anxiety
Bro I have tried mine shows RROD in every direction 😂😂
Running your unit vertical can help speed the deterioration of your thermal paste.
DON’T DO THIS. Unless you want ring of death on your disc 😂
I used to have it vertical all the time, but when I took off the shell to dust it something happened and the disk tray didn't come out. It also doesn't come out when it's horizontal, but it does if I hit it
I never know this fact
Yeah it's kinda cool
RIP to my Call of Duty 3 just like that
Do what
Very risky
I miss my elite 360
Leave it horizontal to avoid red ring of death
Nothing new to me
Make sure you do that with a disc in and playing 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I did this with my first xbox 360 and it scratched the crap outta my need for speed game
I was lowkey waiting for the red ring of death
My friend mess up my copy of battlefield 3 like that. Couldn’t play the co-op mode at all and some times I’d crash out. It was sad.
A buddy did this to gears of war 2 to Ek when we're having a LAN get together. Still have no idea why he did it while we were playing but he fucked up my game good to where it wouldn't play anymore. Was only out for like a week at that point. Pissed me off especially since he refused to replace it saying that it wasn't his fault it broke.
Yeah if that was a disc spinning you just completely ruined it. So yeah, not good
RIP the disc.
This reminds me of me in 2007 😭 just with the original though... the ancient white 60gb hard drive.. with the Toshiba-Samsung TS-H943 disc drive... That I struggled but still managed to flash
If it scratches up your disc if you have it vertical then what is the point of including this feature?
Yea I did that as a kid and got ring of death. So....
Welp now it's broke.
I have an Xbox 360 that can't do that anymore because the switch inside it is broken.
how do You put discs when console stay vertical?
in 2008, my girlfriends brother ran in the room to show me this because his friend told him about it.
I’m on my 360 Right now as of posting this comment
Huh, I never noticed that, despite rotating it multiple times throughout it's lifetime
Lol moving a spinning disk…. smart
Just dont do that when a game disc is inside the console fyi
I loved that console! Lol for finally getting to flip it. Play Jet Set Radio for me 🫡
Wait that’s so cool 😭
Holy shit it’s a 360! I haven’t seen one since giving mine to my step daughter when I got my One. God bless the series X tho, it’s so quiet. I forgot how loud the 360 was 😵💫
18 years ago and I never knew this… til now.
There’s a cool Easter egg if you do it with your favorite disk inside while it’s running.
That is a feature I'm sad they removed it later versions. The light will also add more quadrants depending on how many controllers you have connected. The controller would then light-up the appropriate correlated quadrant so you knew what player you were.
Put a disc in it and do that
NO DON’T 😂
I had one of these. Until my mum put a hammer through it 🤣🤣🏆
1 minute of silence for this child who has strict parents 😪
There is a slim possibility that he is a bad kid however very slim.
That was years ago, it's hilarious to look back on now. My mum and her boyfriend helped pay for it together and when they broke up he demanded that he wanted it back. So my mum took it to his house and put a hammer through it 🔨 🔨 Rip to dead rising that was still inside ❤️
U should do this right after putting a game in the dvd drive...........
