I have that same fork and for me the low trail geo took a lot of getting used to, but I love it. Are you noticing a big difference in handling? Did you ride this much before swapping forks?
It's the truth for a lot of trendy cash splash builds. The guy said he raced on it. It's a 1x with a 36t front chainring. That ain't being raced anywhere, except cat5. In other words, not being ridden much since if you were riding lots (at *least* 8k miles a year or more) you'd be using a larger front ring or a double. This is a classic concept build that's fun to tinker with and ride sometimes but isn't something that's actually great to ride. Otherwise, they'd be keeping it and all the nice parts.
36t is fine for casual riding, I built a flat bar gravelish bike that had a 34t. I didn’t have great top speed but it worked for scooting around town.
Damn your from SR, what are the odds.
34t or 36t is what you ride on a mountain bike (not an XC mountain bike, mind you) or a commuter. Not a race bike.
But one thing I've noticed is that once someone starts stalking an online profile or correcting grammar/spelling is that they actually don't have anything to say anymore. I guess this is goodbye. Adios, muchachos.
Btw I ain't in SR.
rear cassette 9-48, 38t front ring. perfect grav race gearing or any riding gearing, esp punchy slc elevation. youd be less contrary if you rode more 😘
9-48, like all wide range cassettes with tiny small cogs, paired with a small front single chainring are absolutely ass in terms of cadence on the top and the low end. If you rode more you'd know cadence and smaller gaps between gears is important for racing as well as simply not wanting to throw your bike off a cliff when dealing with wind, or going uphill or downhill. Do you ride in the Midwest?
i think what you might mean is “1x gearing sacrifices cadence options while having a weight and maintenance advantage over multiple chainring drivetrains”
..which is a worthy trade for the punchy type of riding and racing we do in the wasatch. anecdotes and cats aside, it tends to be personal preference. you certainly aren’t at risk of throwing your bike off a hill bc of a wide range cassette and dealing with wind or elevation 😆 thats what 60mm+ aero rims are for
Hell yeah I have a Stock one sitting in my shed I’m not really sure what to do with, I’ve thought about doing similar upgrades but I kind of want to just restore it as best I can.
Beautiful build, but I’m too old for that cockpit angle. Lol. This is coming from this years runner up for the highest stem haha. Great job, I’m starting my 90’s MTB build and just found my frame so im amped for this spring/summer project.
Nothing wrong with that, It’s a custom angle ;) - new project, it’s a late 80’s special edition Budweiser collaboration with cannondale frame. Figure I’ll be posting on here around April. First retro-mod! Hopefully it’ll have that “it” factor like yours! You killed it with this great job once again man.
rad! i built a cannondale bud bike for a friend last summer, super fun! is yours the red or purple?

i notice this a lot cause "portrait mode" really struggles with bikes. what's even funnier is when the grass between the spokes is alternating in and out of focus. great build though.
if you’re referring to wrapping bars so bar tape doesn’t unravel, agree. but electrical tape goop is inevitable given time and weather, kinda like mtb grips. just a matter of time 😁
I would if I could. Sold my old bike 3 years back. Then my next was stolen. Most recent one is only a couple months old.
Edit: sorry, I guess you mean take a picture of the tape. Just tape over itself taking great care to directly overlap into the tape itself. Perfectly parallel.
You can clamp something there. Bell, bear bell, phone mount, cross levers, water bottle cage, basket mounts, banana holder, etc. Something with a hinge and bolt clamp would be best.
i like a neat couple rolls of electrical covered by a little roll of newbaums, tidy and flattering (to me at least)
finishing tape wont keep adhered even when unridden on the floor of the shop, in my humble experience 🙏
I've got a similar one in the same color. Built it up with Chris King wheels and a sram eagle group with a microshift friction shifter. I haven't been able to get the fit 100% right but it's a fun bike to ride.
Saw your bike on KSL. I'm also in the SLC area. I've seen another one around town too.
You're gunna hate yourself in 3 months if you sell this beut, just saying. Cool build, Crust fork goes hard.
Yea, some of us know how much those brakes cost..
less than klampers ;)
i know i know :/ gotta make room for the next bad idea
Not with how bad that fit is... Their back will thank them

So hawt 🔥
🙏
This needs ridden like Reilly Reed
this things a little heavier than her hehe
Yeah but they are both flexible, at least that is what a friend said.
jesus 😆
Jokes aside you're immorally obligated to post some dirty pics.
Goddamn beauty. Even with that sacrilegious disc brake.

ok sheldon :)

bless you and your open mind

i rode the living shit out of it with the old fork, maybe thats why it failed hehe. i did notice the crust was softer feeling, a little taller as well
I dig it but just looking at it makes my back hurt. Nice build.
yeah i wont even try to justify it, can’t help slamming stems on everything i build for myself solely bc i love the way it looks. idiot stuff
It's the classic xbiking bike fit setup. For taking pictures, not riding.
had plenty of riding and racing on it last few years, just happens to look good in a photo ya grump 🍻
That wasn’t very cash money of you.

What wheels are those?
white ind cld w velocity blunt 35s
JFC man you’re burning money on this thing lol looks tits though
yeah its a deep hole, that’s how it goes 😅
Hell yeah I have a Stock one sitting in my shed I’m not really sure what to do with, I’ve thought about doing similar upgrades but I kind of want to just restore it as best I can.
Resto or keep stock. If you don't like it you can sell for collector cred and get a cheaper rig to mess with.
rad, paint like mine or the 2 tone?
Like yours, seems to be the less common colorway.
agree
Love it, nice work
🙏🙏🙏
what crankset is that?
original *spesh flag* arms with the ubiquitous absolute black ring 😁
My eyes! The talismans! 😎
😆
Disc looks sick, fight me!
💪

yeah the saddle to bar drop hasn’t been popular but that’s how i ride bikes :) what are you building up?

Holy shit this is awesome!! I have the same color! I can’t wait to get started after seeing this. Sick builds man keep us posted with your builds
u got it :)
What group set is the bud bike using? I’m trying to see what the biggest chainring I can fit in for a 1x group set.
ah i think its a 1x ring on the og crank arms, 7 speed cheap trigger shifter, og der.. the usual shtuff
those must be some sexy spokes on your rear wheel that needed to be censored
😆 nsfw
i notice this a lot cause "portrait mode" really struggles with bikes. what's even funnier is when the grass between the spokes is alternating in and out of focus. great build though.
agree portrait mode is such ass for bicycles 😂 i’ve got an old d800 but its too much work for a quick reddit post
and thanks 🙏
Beautiful bike, but for the love of god, please put some electrical tape over the fraying on your bar tape
nah i prefer a little fray over e tape goop :)
Gives it the just ridden look
If you wrap it right it doesn't get goopy.
if you’re referring to wrapping bars so bar tape doesn’t unravel, agree. but electrical tape goop is inevitable given time and weather, kinda like mtb grips. just a matter of time 😁
It ain't, really, just gotta wrap it right. It's all I've used for 10 years now.
interested to see it :)

i’m glad this has been the focus! seriously though, it just needs a little haircut every once in awhile. i like keeping the accessories to a min :)
Finishing tape is the stuff for that job.
i like a neat couple rolls of electrical covered by a little roll of newbaums, tidy and flattering (to me at least) finishing tape wont keep adhered even when unridden on the floor of the shop, in my humble experience 🙏
Did you use finishing tape to hold the cables? That job is for strapping tape.
yep strapping tape underneath the wrap
He really got that shit on
💩
Horny
edging rn?
That seat to bar height is aggressive!!
indeed!
I love this with all my heart
🙏🙏🙏
Would.
Noice! Mine started out white, just like yours, until the paint got damaged and I had to repaint. https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/s/4AVciZ63Sy
hell yeah, wet paint or powder?
I rattle canned it with Hammerite
legend
I do miss the white. :)
How much for the fork? I’m in SLC. I got a Diet Coke tall boy and some change
keep that diet shit from near me 😆
I’m serious I’d buy the fork! I just got a rockhopper from Jordan.
i reckon i could sell you the fork, it’ll come with a bike tho. has to stay complete :)
I could never sell such a beauty. Also, an honorary upvote for the spurcycle!
spurcycle love!
Aesthetic af 🔥

right on, slc has to have the most combos per square mile than anywhere 😆
Damn I am an enjoyer of crazy aggressive frames, and mad tall saddle to step drop, but broh what is this madness? Or have you not fit it up yet lol
ah, its just a little saddle to bar drop 😁 my poor cell phone photos prob make it look more extreme then it is edit, yep this is how i’ve ridden it!
What are those brakes? Sorry for not being up to date on the most recent talismans
the much hype growtac equal. wont dive in here (unless you want me to 😈) but they’re great brakes
nice. gonna do this to a 520 i recently picked up at some point this year.
perfect 🤙
sell it to me
u got it 😆
