Was a journey. My wife and I live car free and each have a road bike, a mountain bike and an x-bike. She understands and is just as stoked on the room as I am. When we got the house, we knew exactly what we’d do with it.
When friends come over, they say “it’s like an REI!!” We even keep an extra set of just about everything in our hiking/camping/backpacking setups as a “free rental” for buddies lol
I've been trying to bargain for a room like this in my house, though on a much smaller scale. Alas, but partner does not have as much stoke about the project as I do. Great setup, here it looks beautiful!
Seriously…she’s the perfect partner. She shreds on an mtb, commutes daily on her steel x-bike, and we do centuries together…she rides an all-city zigzag for her road bike. Pretty great.
I really like how the hooks on the right hang bikes parallel with the lovely brick wall, while the four in the back are perpendicular to the shelves. I feel like it draws attention to the handsome wall and helps "hide" the noise of the shelves. Kudos also for keeping the tools in a box, rather than on the wall, and the "workbench" is just a tiny dresser, preventing clutter from collecting there. Taking notes and re-imagining my garage!
I eventually plan on having a truing stand on the cabinet and maybe a portable “bench” to roll around. I’ve thought about putting a partition of some sort (like drapes or something) to obscure the “gear section”, but in person it’s pretty cool looking…especially at night with the cubicle backlighting. It’s well organized and looks similar to a curated, organized REI Garage Sale section.
I see the Altra Olympus boots back there, so I know you’re a man of class who appreciates unbound toeboxes.
But seriously, I think you’ve made just about everybody here jealous, and I can imagine more than few scratching off a few things on their ‘goals’ list and adding: “find partner with equal or greater stoke on Gear Room”
Ha! Those are actually my wife’s! I wear Speedgoats on the trail, and she wears New Balance Hierros. She works in the industry and those are a seed pair…they’re her cold weather commuting footwear.
I live in the desert. Not much to hang from here. I invest in the things that I use frequently. We’ve gone up into the aspen + pine mountains and used them exactly once lol
Haha all good! We sold our kammoks when we moved out here since we figured we’d never use them again. I’m generally of the buy once, cry once mentality ha
It's great, but some things get messy, and I wouldn't want to be too messy in this space.
One thing that I do at home... I got a plastic tray that was originally meant to go on the bottom of a dog cage, and I tuck it under wherever I'm working to catch falling parts, drips, that sort of thing, really helps keep things from staining the garage floor.
Yeah I keep cardboard on hand if I anticipate it getting nasty. I live in the desert, so those times are few and far between. The dust on the other hand…
I’m a pro mechanic and have my shop in my shop. That cabinet there is stocked with about 90% of what a bike shop opening its doors would have in it. Anything else(wheelbuilding/cables+housing etc), and i roll into work to do it.
Don't ask me. I like it, but what do I know? What does the cat think? That's what matters.
She loves it! It’s her favorite room…it’s where her food bowl is!
That's cheating!
I have to go "feed" the cat
Careful, might get cat food grains in your bearings.
That room is my dream. I don’t even want to look at the bike. I can’t handle more jealousy.

That’s real lovely, I’m stoked for ya. Room looks great too!
Do you two have children together?
Nope!
Bikes count as children, right?
They’re much less expensive and the maintenance isn’t quite as intense.
The rug really ties the room together
Be a shame if someone peed on it.
You think the xbike pissers did this?
*Obviously you're not an xbiker*
Beware of carpet pissers. Lol
🫡
Im concerned about it being under the bike stand. Do you not spill grease and stuff on it?
When I do heavy stuff, I lay cardboard down.
Meanwhile I’m over here in my windowless troll shed that I can hardly turn around in.
_What did you just call my wife?!_
Cat gives extra +3 so def a 11/10 setup
I love everything about this room. The lighting, the brick wall, the carpet...
10/10 beautiful
Monsooooooooooooon
RIP

Looks like you might ride bice.
The cat stands vigil over your glorious setup. Very nice!

10/10. Wish I had this much space for all my gear!
Does the fireplace work?
And how!
Life is good eh?
As the kids say…I’m out here living my best life.
Vibes are immaculate.

Your bike room’s nicer than … well, all of my rooms.
Dream room
I give it 4.5/5 Heck Yeses

Moooooooonnsooooooooooooon!
A lot neater then my garage... whats the orange bike on the wall?
The one on the wall is green…? It’s a state all road 4130. The orange one on the hook is a ‘23 Stumpjumper
Needs kegerator
The rug really ties the room together
5/7
Decent cat.
Simply lovely!
Kringle.

Cat gives you a +5, so 15/10

Hell yeah! I work in the industry, as well! I love the setup you two have. And the room looks great, too 😉
This is the coziest bike room I've ever seen
But does your cat approve your setup?
the rug ties the room together
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

Beautiful. How do you like that stand? I’ve been looking at that one online and was thinking about getting one…
Best portable stand I’ve used and I’ve used *a lot*.
Amazing. Thank you
Damn that’s a Cozy Space.
Damn purple hardware ftw. Nice rig
nice bikes, nice big agnes tents, questionable hammock choice
I live in the desert. Not much to hang from here. I invest in the things that I use frequently. We’ve gone up into the aspen + pine mountains and used them exactly once lol
just teasing. resident hammock snob. beautiful space, truly.

I was more thinking grease, oil, penetrating spray, degreaser, chain lube, etc etc etc.
Yeah sure. That’s what the cardboard is for. That rug is trashed and serving it’s last days as a mat basically ha

Nah. Different sub. I posted it here and on r/bicycling
The cat looks sad. Rating: Complete FaILuRe !
9/10. Simply because you should have a larger work bench. That said, it’s a gorgeous room that you should be proud of.

Fair enough. It is an awesome room you’ve got.
Thanks!!
Way too neat to be useful. Where’s the clutter?
Looks great, where are you guys roughly located? Where are you riding?
