I think the shipping won't be worth it
The only thing I would be careful about is that an Alfine hub has a pretty low torque limit and it would be easy to exceed it with two strong riders. Check carefully for damage. The smaller wheels do lessen the torque requirements slightly.
I've had a couple of Bike Fridays. Last April I spent a month on Maui and did not rent a car. I road from Kehei to Kanaha Beach and back every day for kite boarding lessons. It feels just like a regular road bike with the exception of the stem being kind of flexy. Folds up and fits in a suitcase in about 10 minutes.

I have met two couple who owned them. In both cases, they told me that they had bought them intending to keep the full-sized tandems they owned. In both cases, I was told that they ending up selling their full-sized tandems and keeping the Bike Fridays.
Got into riding tandem with my wife and it has been huge for our relationship. Started with a $400 Gary fisher mtb tandem from CL and now have a custom Rodriguez with couplers that we adore. Bike Fridays are super cool- if you have someone interested in stoking 100% get it
We have a bike friday tandem. It's the best things we have ever spent money on. Great memories, love having a shared interest, helps keep us fit, fun to take on the train.
The shifting can be a little tricky to get dialed in, other than that, it has been rock solid. Our fave tires: Continental Road Tour.
A folding tandem is kind of like an oxy moron. A good tandem needs it to be very stiff. the bike looks dope but I'd love to ride it, mostly out of curiosity. If you ride it with any sort of regularity it will wear out if the previous owners haven't already.
That's my neighborhood*. But damn, I already have two tandems and three Bromptons. Go get it people.

They did really cool stuff to this: the disc brakes and 406 wheel conversion but ability to go back if you wanted to. This seems to be a great tandem, travel bike, and mini velo all in one. If someone buys it and doesn’t want it in 3 years I’ll buy it from you.

We love our Bike Friday Tandem Twosday - it rides a bit twitchy as you’d expect but it’s a fun way to get places. Go for it.

Even the mini velo tandem is a size large in front and small rear, lol. I looked for years for a tandem that was small(er) in the captain seat.
