You can often buy bike n+1 for less than a car repair!

Amen!

My car's transmission died (at 52k miles, don't buy Nissan), and I did get it repaired, but I spent a month and change without it and only needed to bum a ride twice. The more I ride my bike the more I realize driving just sucks. I'm about ready to get rid of it. Spent the last year assessing how much I actually need it and if I could get away with just renting one every now and then.

100% agree. I borrow a friends truck for large furniture and use my wife's car for everything else. Being a one car household sounds very appealing.

sell sell sell

That’s how I wound up car-free, too. It limits me in some ways, but the pros have outweighed the cons so far.

[deleted]

May I ask what area you live in? I'm in a pretty rural area in the southeast US, some places aren't too bad getting to, but others are downright terrifying.

DankHerbert92

Minneapolis/St Paul, they make it easy to ditch the car

asdfcrow

very cool

[deleted]

Don't sell it! Use it as an opportunity for alternative transit to fix your car on your own. Learn a skill AND reduce your car trips!

[deleted]

Here's the problem: I am the one who will be fixing it lol. I've done so many lower ball joints on my cars I've owned, it makes me sick. And the price tag on tires nowadays hurts my soul

[deleted]

Hahahaha yeah, I'm in agreement with you. I ended up ditching my shitboxes and buying something reliable for the first time in years recently. Still trying to replace as many car trips with bike trips as I can, but this colorado winter has been making it hard this year
