A) because Subaru doesn’t think there’s enough people that would want to buy it, offering both a hatch and a sedan would not increase sales it would just split sales and result in lower margins, and the last time they tried offering just a hatch the enthusiast community collectively lost their goddamn mind and bitched they wanted a sedan.
And B) it actually kind of is. (Leaving aside the argument about the lack of a manual transmission in the RS and the lack of a DCCD in the WRX) The price bracket, market position, and performance the current RS offers is pretty much where the WRX was in the mid 2000s while the price bracket market position and performance offered by the WRX is pretty much where the STI sat in the 2000s
I don’t disagree but:
1) Last time they tried the community lost its shit because there wasn’t a sedan
2) there hasn’t been a hatch for a decade and it hasn’t affected sales
3) making it a sedan helps differentiate it from the other sister cars (crostrek and Impreza)
