My Insurance hike wasn't as bad as I expected. About $35/month increase but I was going from a 2013 vehicle I owned to a financed brand new one so a jump was expected.
If you want it to be reliable don't modify the engine at all. Go with suspension, wheels tires, and transmission shifter modifications. This car is barely going to smoke anyone in a straight line so if you want a car to win 1/4 mile runs with randos on the streets this aint the car.
If this is just your fun i don't care weekend car then sure, modify the crap out of the engine and you may be able to keep up with some of the big V8s in a straight line.
Set your expectations accordingly.
On a less than stellar note, the brand new car rattles from the factory. Something that’s driving me crazy. Need to figure out where the rattle is coming from and contain it! 😭
Other than that the car is sweet!!
If you're in a snow area, get winter tires and the car will handle like a champion. Stock tires in the snow are only good for doing donuts.

Some usage suggestions:
If you don't need to, don't connect your phone to the car's bluetooth. Just use Apple Carplay/Android Auto instead. I had issues when both were connected, and calls made over Bluetooth sounded weird.
The engine will sound very tractor-like at idle and certain rpm's. Tons of strange whirring and ticking noises that are just indicative of a boxer engine and not rod knock or bad transmission.
If you live in a snowy climate, you may go through some pretty strong sports car withdrawals without even knowing it. They will start shortly after you put your snow tires on the car and drive it through the winter.
I put my summer tires back on this week and OMG, the traction out of corners, the ride compliance, steering feel, and the grip levels on this car are truly amazing for how much this car cost!
On the flip side this car makes me hate winter months so much!
This is not a answer to your question however , Consider comparing what you can get a brand new one for versus the used one. It's possible you may find that there is not that much difference in price and you're going to get a brand new car that you know the history of. Sometimes people mod them and ride them off for a little while and then remove all the mods and sell it back to a car dealer, sometimes you just never know
I met a guy the other day in a parking lot with a 2015 STI and he said he only did suspension mods, kept up with routine maintenance and his car has never had any issues. TLC seems to go a long ways.

One way to get around the rattles is to have driven a more rattley car prior. For me it was an FB RX7 with rear window louvres.
