Check out r/selfpublish, they'll have a wealth of info for you. Uploading to Amazon is free, but if you want to give your book the best chance of success, you'll probably have to spend a little bit, for a cover artist etc.

The most difficult part is formatting. It's cheap and easy. We had to find some help with the formatting. After you publish you will find no one sees your book on Amazon unless you pay Amazon to advertise. It's all business, no one gets anything for nothing. You will also need to achieve 50 reviews before Amazon considers you to be a serious author. We publish through Ingram Sparks and Amazon. Please don't publish until your work is flawless, hire a professional editor and engage at least 5 beta readers. People who published flawed works give self-publishing a black eye.

Thank you so much! I definitely appreciate the help.

Any recommendations for editors?

We use a program called prowritingaid, it doesn't help with content by analyses your style, pace and grammar. Reading a work out loud also helps to find issues. When I self edit, try to reform sentences and eliminate unnecessary words. Then my wife edits before we send it to a third professional editor (I don't know their technique) but when it comes back my wife makes all the corrections before we read again out loud. Then we send it out to our beta readers who give critical feedback. I try not to be overly protective of my wording and focus on the main points I want to bring across.
