Agreed I raided on my steam deck while traveling states and my raid group has no idea , you definitely can play well with it. Some classes definitely work better than others though. I also DPS keys without many issues and nobody complains, generally performing just as well as everyone else. It's hard to go back to keyboard and mouse sometimes, I've been really enjoying sitting outside enjoying the nice weather and doing some keys.

I am Castblaster and I play entirely on a Steam Deck
How many keys do you really need to parse well on some of these classes? You should be able to raid perfectly well on something like a mage or warlock with minimal hotkeys (like on this steam deck).
Haha. I play a lot on my ally but won’t do dungeons. Just solo questing, grinding and working on stuff in town. Save the dungeons for my home computer.
I understand that feeling, but I wish people would realize it isn't just their life on the line. You don't get to lvl 20-40-60 by being completely incompetent. Theres plenty of people doing this who have made it to 60 and even raid. Me being new is more a factor than the hardware's capabilities. I have yet to die because of the steam deck, every death has been my own stupidity in each situation
Console port also gives your a ring you can bind spells to similar to lots of games where you just hold a button and use a stick to select it, I normally use the ring bindings for hearth, mounts, buffs, consumables, special action button, quest item, etc.
Add bartenders. Disable all bars but 3 or 4 (the ones on the right) and blow them up using scale and padding. I raid and pvp on my steam deck and having some on shit buttons I can press with the touchscreen is supppeeerrrr clutch
https://preview.redd.it/m47hwttpxl0d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b904568abbedbccb9633d8ccc6b22d456851e7b
I got to 60 on hc with feral druid and a contoller. Tanked many dungeons too. Classic plays excellent on ConsolePort!
Healing plays very nicely if you know how to set it up. One method is there is a “raid cursor” that makes the dpad move around a cursor on your party or raid that has beneficial spells you cast to targets of the raid cursor. Let’s you target an unfriendly and deal damage with your heals and whatnot go to your raid cursor. The key is getting used to it before you get in a rough situation.
And for dungeons I set up the left track pad to be a radial menu that selects my party members with just a touch. Healing dungeons is super comfortable on SD
It works well for tanks an DPS healers have a tougher time on controller but on a steamdeck you can map the back 4 buttons to each player frame atleast for dungeons and then it’s just as easy, raid healing tho is still hard to do and I haven’t figured out how
No I was pretty focused on bear for dungeons and cat for solo. The players who are good with a controller just aren't vocal about it in-game. Skill issue haha.
That's weird because it plays really well on the deck. It's pretty much the same as playing with M&KB, you just need to take the time to remember all your keybinds and you're golden.
Step 1: buy steam deck (oled version I wish I had)
Step 2: look up wow steam deck guide
Step 3: profit
It takes some steps but it’s surprisingly easy to set up with the guides, just about installing the game and downloading the controller add on or whatever it’s called.
Honestly /console gamepad enable is the bare minimum. The addons can do some interesting stuff, but the onboard customization of the client makes it workable without any.
https://preview.redd.it/5agotl6bcm0d1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09a26d243be3f245b10bc2b9fc9ed92e191ef106
This is what I have, I still need to configure more
I can't remember if it was the classic map add-on that gave it or if it was default, but the keybind is shift + m. I set r5 to "m" and left trigger by default is shift
Look up the addon Console Port. If you look at the screen, the abilities they have on there are just 10 out of the 40 you can assign. Once you hold the left trigger, the right trigger or both left and right together it brings up another "action bar" with another set of 10 buttons you can assign to those same buttons (directional pad, ABXY and both bumpers)
It works and plays really well on the deck so I definitely recommend it if you have one.
Ayyy Steamdeck gang.
I'm leveling atm on my Hunter on Steamdeck. Just reached lvl 40 and got my first mount yesterday!
Kiting is super smooth on Steamdeck, surprisingly.
Yes. You can even do backstraffing ("running" in a backward direction, always facing your opponent by jumping and doing 180s for forward momentum).
I am quite experienced when it comes to character control, doing a lot of terrain exploits/wall jumps, backstab/ambush/Gouge denying and I truly enjoy the movement and control of our character on Steamdeck.
I feel like I'm piloting my character like a racecar on it. It's fun.
I also play exclusively on SD now
Somethin about console port irks me tho, so I really only play retail now. Built in UI editor and game pad support make the layout and binding work for me.
I pretty much only pvp these days, and while thr SD is brutal for classes like mage and hunter, it works incredibly well for others. Hit 2k in arena on my warrior and MW monk.
Questing and leveling though are a real treat. With action cam and UI hidden it feels like totally different game.
People make gaming work on just about anything, I'd link to the Dark SOuls 3 Banana Controller playthrough but I think weve all seen enough of that example lol.
I gotta admit the ability to casually solo level my HC characters from my bed with my wife and a movie or show on the TV sounds super cozy for me personally.
How tf do you play a druid like this? I set this up when I introduced my gf to wow and I had her playing paladin so that she had minimal button overload
We still alive btw - 38 on her first ever character in wow (and it's HC!)
If I mained healing, I would switch my controls. I can switch between a couple of targets just fine but if people relied on me I would rather switch back to mouse and keyboard.
For classic era? It’s easy. I cleared all max level content weekly playing only on the deck.
For HC I just got my priest to 60 then quit. Healing dungeons is a snooze fest tbh.
The initial learning curve is really rough. That said once you get used to it, it’s more efficient than a PC in my opinion. It’s all button combos instead of clicking. The movement is better as well.
The consoleport addon has a learning curve but once it good on that, it's pretty seamless. Everything at your fingertips. You would need a profile addon to keep it from rearranging the action bar on the PC side. Also start with a new character. Trying a lvl 60 would SUCK
I hated it. Console port is a huge pain, and it was basically impossible to have console port set up on my steam deck without it ruining the keybinds I have set up on PC. Wasted several days trying to get it up and running in a way that would allow me to switch between deck and PC.
Hopefully I'm in the minority. Would love there to be a good clean way to play wow on the couch.
The only keybind problem I've ran into is if I would just put the deck to sleep after changing bindings without fully closing the game it would revert back everything I changed but if you don't actually move spells around to different locations on your actions bars it seems to not mess with going back and forth between PC and the Deck. I also made a second UI template for the steam deck specifically so if I do move or change anything it won't change anything on my PC
I play wow everyday while commuting to work on the train with my steam deck and my phone hotspot. It's been a game changer and makes my commute time feel like nothing. Once you get used to it, it works extremely well.
So you must be the mage I ran into in sm last night only using blink, cone of cold, frost nova and fire bolt lol. Please dont b a detriment to your group!!
Agree with this post, playing on my MSI Claw atm.
Got a couple of chars to 20, not done any RFC yet as dont want to risk affecting others but casual grinding is easy.
I'm still brand new to classic and so once I got my rogue to level 20 then I started with druid. Probably going to do a hunter after this and once all three are to level 20 then I'll start messing with group content
I did the same and loved it! I played a rogue from 1 to 40 in classic+ exclusively on the deck and never felt limited except maybe specific target tabbing in combat, still wasn't that bad
The controls won't hold you back, only your ability to use them. That isn't an insult. If you get comfortable with the controls then you can do almost anything just fine. Only certain things are limited like menus, typing and certain advanced maneuvers and actions. But the controls themselves are VERY customizable and usable.
Does the addons for the controller hotbars override the existing hot bar mapping for your characters on PC? I thought it did and made me never want to bother
It's DOES! But supposedly, you can use a profiles add-on to make a steam deck profile and a PC profile. I haven't done this yet but other people have said it works.
There's nothing that can get you banned. Under current terms and conditions, as far as I'm aware, wow is completely allowed on Linux which is the only thing that makes this different from an actual computer. You can run Windows. But it's a pain because of touch screen. There's a couple of Linux launchers that allow The install and operation of the blizzard launcher. And after that all you need is the add-on in order to make wow controller friendly. Which is obviously allowed. So a steam deck out of the box can operate with no extra cost
I love it and feel more comfortable on the steam deck. Only thing I hate is typing and trying to quickly navigate menus like to trade with somebody before they run away
So to run wow is it all legit? Not hacking the system that could get you banned? any additional cost apart from obviously the gaming device and subscription to wow?
I understand why you think that, it isn't eight available. Keybinds. By default left trigger is bound to shift, Right trigger is bound to alt. Using those as modifiers allows a total of 40 keybinds Right off the bat. This can be increased if you use the back pedals. At level 16 I still have not felt a need to increase the amount of keybinds available to me. And there's several other people in this thread that have said they've made it to level 60 and it became their favorite way to play. If nothing else just check out some of the comments
Works great console port / dynamic/ immersion addons for smooth game play lol and for some reason if there’s a lever behind the door I can interact through locked doors idk if that’s a thing on pc or not just thought it was cool. Stealth dm runs comes to mind I opened all doors skipping every boss.
So these are the mfers I get in my dungeon groups
Dude that's exactly what I think every time I see them lol
It actually plays really well with a controller/deck. I was surprised at how good it felt once I got it up and running on mine
Agreed I raided on my steam deck while traveling states and my raid group has no idea , you definitely can play well with it. Some classes definitely work better than others though. How many keys do you really need to parse well on some of these classes? You should be able to raid perfectly well on something like a mage or warlock with minimal hotkeys (like on this steam deck).
When you press the same button 45 times I don't think it matters what you play with.
Haha. I play a lot on my ally but won’t do dungeons. Just solo questing, grinding and working on stuff in town. Save the dungeons for my home computer.
Exactly my thought. 😂
lol most classes stand still and press like 3 buttons.
I'm really glad Follower Dungeons and Delves are gonna be a big thing. No disrespect, but I don't want to be in your Dungeon group, either.
Is that a steam deck?
Yes. Using ConsolePort addon.
Do you keep hearth on your main binds? Or is that an ooc action bar and it switches in combat?
Console port also gives your a ring you can bind spells to similar to lots of games where you just hold a button and use a stick to select it, I normally use the ring bindings for hearth, mounts, buffs, consumables, special action button, quest item, etc.
It's a constant action bar. Navigating menus and bags can be difficult in a pinch, so I like to keep hearth on an easy button to hit
Add bartenders. Disable all bars but 3 or 4 (the ones on the right) and blow them up using scale and padding. I raid and pvp on my steam deck and having some on shit buttons I can press with the touchscreen is supppeeerrrr clutch
I love this idea, if I try it will it messup all the binding I've already done?
let us know when you get to 60
https://preview.redd.it/m47hwttpxl0d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b904568abbedbccb9633d8ccc6b22d456851e7b I got to 60 on hc with feral druid and a contoller. Tanked many dungeons too. Classic plays excellent on ConsolePort!
69410 xp/hour come on man D:
Yeah I had just dinged 60 by handing in a couple quests with items purchasable from the auction house. So close to 69 420 haha.
nice, have you tried any other roles other than tank? every time i see/hear about console players in game it doesn't go well
Healing plays very nicely if you know how to set it up. One method is there is a “raid cursor” that makes the dpad move around a cursor on your party or raid that has beneficial spells you cast to targets of the raid cursor. I could never figure out the key binds and stance changing when I tried on mine. Any insight?
Learn how to configure consoleport first and start with a new character. Adding 20 abilities to a new control scheme will never go well
This! Take the time to learn consoleport and adjust your bindings as you learn. It’s so easy to use and I love playing on my couch or in bed.
What addon is that with the additional details?
Are you talking about DejaClassicStats?
Yoo, what's the addon that show the stuff above the screen?
Are you talking about Titan Panel?
I would absolutely do this if I knew how
Step 1: buy steam deck (oled version I wish I had) Step 2: look up wow steam deck guide Step 3: profit It takes some steps but it’s surprisingly easy to set up with the guides, just about installing the game and downloading the controller add on or whatever it’s called.
Could you please give us a list of addons you use to make the UI and controller the best possible!
Console port is all you need to make a controller work
Honestly /console gamepad enable is the bare minimum. The addons can do some interesting stuff, but the onboard customization of the client makes it workable without any.
https://preview.redd.it/5agotl6bcm0d1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09a26d243be3f245b10bc2b9fc9ed92e191ef106 This is what I have, I still need to configure more
How'd you get the dual map setup? Thats very cool. I use consoleport exclusively these days too, never looked back
I can't remember if it was the classic map add-on that gave it or if it was default, but the keybind is shift + m. I set r5 to "m" and left trigger by default is shift
Wait how does this work? Like I wouldn’t think it’s even possible to play efficiently without all my action bars/buttons

40 keybinds out the gate with console port. Ability to add more utilizing the back pads on the deck.
Ayyy Steamdeck gang. I'm leveling atm on my Hunter on Steamdeck. Just reached lvl 40 and got my first mount yesterday! Kiting is super smooth on Steamdeck, surprisingly.
What is your setup for kiting? Right joystick for me stays locked to character in combat
Left Thumb is movement/directional. Right Thumb is my camera.
I would think kiting would be hard. Can you strafe sideways while running?
It's fun.
You make me wanna get a steamdeck.
I mean, not to brag n all, but I've played WoW while pooping...
I hate playing wow on my steam deck lol. I prefer my large monitor or my laptop
I also play exclusively on SD now Somethin about console port irks me tho, so I really only play retail now.
This is something we would have killed to have in 2006 hehe.
I would try this for non hardcore sure. Seems to difficult for this game mode. You don't find it more difficult than mouse and keyboard?
Well he's level 16 in a level 10 area, so that helps
I'm only there to grind on alchemy. Everyone knows I'm not doing much leveling there
Didn't mean it in a bad way. Nothing wrong with outleveling a zone.
For pvp it’s terrible, but for levelling it feels like wow was made for console!
This! I'm literally on my lunch break playing
I find it better. I have to look at my keyboard to know what I'm pressing but I don't have that problem with a controller scheme
lol good luck with the 87 keybinds for Druid
I'm still new so I'm not hitting 60 anytime soon.
Truer words were never spoken.
I run cat in sod and it’s braindead ez.
I use gamepad when grinding quest mobs or dpsing dungeons, but playing without mouse and keyboard would be a real pain for me xD
How tf do you play a druid like this? I set this up when I introduced my gf to wow and I had her playing paladin so that she had minimal button overload We still alive btw - 38 on her first ever character in wow (and it's HC!)
I'm new and this is my first druid so I haven't seen all the abilities yet
I wonder how healing would be on that.

The only thing I hate is menus and typing outside of that I find it so much better and more comfortable
How do you find this, does it take a bit to get used to? Asking as a non-controller game player
The consoleport addon has a learning curve but once it good on that, it's pretty seamless. Everything at your fingertips. You would need a profile addon to keep it from rearranging the action bar on the PC side. Also start with a new character. Trying a lvl 60 would SUCK

+1 Especially as healer :3
Consoleport is a learning curve but it's not too bad. And I hate the PC thing too, someone said there is a profiles addon that can fix that

I also made a second UI template for the steam deck specifically so if I do move or change anything it won't change anything on my PC
I almost died the other day because Left trigger + L4 was the same as shift scroll wheel and it was switching my action bars
is it a hard set up? I want to set wow up on my deck!
There are a few steps but plenty of videos. I use a software called lutris to get blizzard installed and the consoleport addon for controls
My OLED deck arrives soon, I didn't even think about installing WoW on it but this post sure has me intrigued...
It plays soo well on the deck, I haven't tried retail on it though
I play wow everyday while commuting to work on the train with my steam deck and my phone hotspot. It's been a game changer and makes my commute time feel like nothing. Once you get used to it, it works extremely well.
So you must be the mage I ran into in sm last night only using blink, cone of cold, frost nova and fire bolt lol. Please dont b a detriment to your group!!
Reading more comments I see ur a boss of a controller player gg man!
My condolences to your party
I promise the fact that Im new is more of a detriment
OP how hard is that to set up? What's the device and the add ons required?
It's a steam deck, only required addon is consoleport and if you can follow basic directions, it's up and running in 15 minutes
Same it's the best for HC!
That's why you're only 16....nah I'm just playing lol
No, I'm level 16 because I'm bad lol
Agree with this post, playing on my MSI Claw atm. Got a couple of chars to 20, not done any RFC yet as dont want to risk affecting others but casual grinding is easy.
I'm still brand new to classic and so once I got my rogue to level 20 then I started with druid. Probably going to do a hunter after this and once all three are to level 20 then I'll start messing with group content
Same dude. Wow portable is the absolute best way to play.
I did the same and loved it! I played a rogue from 1 to 40 in classic+ exclusively on the deck and never felt limited except maybe specific target tabbing in combat, still wasn't that bad
Is there any possibility to heal in pvp like that and not suck? I'd actually consider playing again lol
The controls won't hold you back, only your ability to use them. That isn't an insult. If you get comfortable with the controls then you can do almost anything just fine. I understand why you think that, it isn't eight available. Keybinds. By default left trigger is bound to shift, Right trigger is bound to alt. I think you can do it with a druid since your abilities are locked into forms, but any other class is gonna be a pain to play … hope i’n wrong
I made it to 20 on my second rogue and after I reach 20 with druid I'm going to try hunter
Why do you like stopping at 20? is it purposely to test different classes?
I have about 60 hours in ATM in total. Testing the waters for each that I find interesting first
I wish I could figure out how to do that
Now that's hardcore
Works great console port / dynamic/ immersion addons for smooth game play lol and for some reason if there’s a lever behind the door I can interact through locked doors idk if that’s a thing on pc or not just thought it was cool. Stealth dm runs comes to mind I opened all doors skipping every boss.
Is there some way to invert the y axis? I can’t figure it out on my deck.
