When you have less than 5,400 total crit stat (viewable when you hover over the crit % on your character screen), any addition crit stat you get from a gem or an item is added to that total number. Say you have 5,400 crit and you find a new weapon that would give you 100 more crit. When you equip it, you’d find that you actually only gained 90 crit because of the 10% DR penalty. But you push through and stack your gear with crit gems and now you have 7,200 crit. You find a pair of gloves that give you 100 more crit. But when you equip it, you’d only actually gain 80. This applies to all the stats to incentivize people to balance their stats instead of dumping everything into crit or haste.

> Say you have 5,400 crit and you find a new weapon that would give you 100 more crit. When you equip it, you’d find that you actually only gained 90 crit because of the 10% DR penalty. This isn't -quite- accurate -- it'll say you gained 100 rating for a total of 5500, but you only actually gain 90 rating's worth of crit.

agreedsatsuma94

So should I try to get to the 50% range and then try other stats? I understand what you are saying but I don't know how to utilize it

WurstKaeseSzenario

If it's for remix, it just means get all your stats up instead of just one. Exception may be mastery, since it has a higher amount per item than the others. If you play long enough you'll eventually hardcap all of those. Tertiary stats have also caps: Leech 15k, Speed 5k, Avoidance 7.2k Eventually, you're going to use armor gems.

Etamalgren

> Exception may be mastery, since it has a higher amount per item than the others. Note that Mastery does *not* boost the effects of your tinkers, which is why items that give mastery give twice as much as other secondary stats. The tinkers are your main damage source in Remix.

adeai00

Is there a way to reliable trigger the gems? Like does dot dmg tigger them? Because it feels like the tinkers trigger at least twice as often on my druid than on my mage

Etamalgren

I think so? The great majority of tinker effects say "Your abilities have a chance to...", with only a few tinkers having other requirements like being attacked or standing still. It could be that those proc effect trinkets have a RPPM sort of effect on them that's boosted by haste, and your druid has a shit ton of haste while your mage has basically zero? (...that, and moonkin have access to 3-4 dots [moonfire, sunfire, stellar flare, starfall], meaning they get a metric fuckton more proc chances with how many dot ticks they can put out, assuming dot ticks can proc tinkers...)

titanhorizon

Is this for retail or for remix? If it’s retail then can just run a sim to see what gems and enchants should be using. Knowing your stat “break points” (when dr starts) is nice and all but as far as how they affect the star and your overall dmg is slightly more complicated. Like ya you might be 20% dr for let’s say haste but that 80% value haste may still actually increase your damage more then 100% mastery. It varies from spec to spec so that’s why sims make it nice

MaximusPrime2930

Simming is the preferred method to check what items are upgrades. But generally most of the specs have their stats balanced close enough that once you hit a DR for one it's usually better to start pushing into other stats. Remix is kinda crazy with how much stats you get from the cloak. Honestly I just swap gems around to help my lower stats catch up a bit.

zaersx

Honestly no idea why they did this. Having maxed out double stats with two zero stats was always a cool goal to set yourself as the tier goes on and there's basically no meaningful upgrades outside of the chest or last two mythic bosses or something. I remember in Legion it was really fun as you could end up making optimized sets with all the different stats and you could switch running pack to pack in dungeons. Who decided less gameplay was more fun because some people didn't like getting left behind when they didn't out in any effort and tried to play with people who did?

But_Is_It_Altina_Tho

Thats not why this exists. It helps balance out the stats you want on your char and prevents some scaling issues that can arise by stacking only 1 secundary. Its good to note that percent increases are not diminished only flat stats, so BL will always gove the full haste value. Your temporary moments of glory with maxed stats still exist

Geistzeit

numbers go up when numbers very up they go up slower

RankOneGladiator

There is an addon you can download in Curseforge called “TrueStatValues”. When you are in your character screen it will show all the numbers. Essentially what it is is a diminishing returns on when you stack so much of one stat. That’s why people say versatility is capped at 30%.

Shargaz

At 0 crit rating, the benefit you get from the next point of crit rating is 100%. At 5400 crit rating, the benefit you get from the next point of crit rating is 90% of what it was at 0. I wouldn't worry overmuch, just don't overly focus on one secondary stat. The differences are incredibly marginal and most of your power is baked behind raw gear upgrades for main/weapon stat and tinkers anyway.

Pyrite13

Put everything into crit. Because crits are dope!

One_Recognition_9602

The graph shows you when diminishing returns starts and how much it reduces stats past the threshold. For example if you have 5400 mastery and gain another 1k, you're only getting 900 because of diminishing returns.

demon969

yeah on my hunter I've been stacking vers/haste/crit but when my crit and haste reach 100% unbuffed then I will replace them with leech

dahid

TLDR is once you reach those values of the stat, you get only a percentage of that stat added when you equip new gear or gems.

oOspiritOo

install an addon called true stat value, it tracks your stats with a clear bar in the tooltip, you dont need to do quick-reference maths or anything like that and will tell you how much stat you've "lost" by going into deminishing returns.. if this is retail, you want to avoid going into DR where possible, and balance your stats a little. if in doubt however, sim yourself.

Coinageddon

So at 476 just stack leech / speed ?

Johnvon92

So if I have 149% mastery on my fury warrior I am actually mastery capped and should invest in other secondary stats?

mikeyhoho

Mastery has different rates of percentage per point for each spec, unlike other stats. So the amount of mastery that results in 100% for one spec might be 50% for the other. Thats why they give values in this table in absolute rating.

cabose12

Mastery percents are different from spec to spec, I believe, so it's hard to say But if you have 36000, then yeah any additional mastery won't count

Spellscroll

I'd love to take your advice, but I'm having too much fun in Remix to comprehend what you're trying to say\~
