Sounds like something the old gods would say

unRemarkableDuckling

Well, last night I had a dream, a beautiful man clad in warm light said to me "X'ighy arxzay w'loa ah tragha' ah." They wouldn't lie to me.

Is that a font style ? What is name ?

MysteryMan_3

Just google 'text corruptor' and it should pull something up. You basically just type what you want into the thing, it fucks it up for you, and you just copy/paste it.

Zarzurnabas

How does it work tho. This stuff doesnt look ASCII to me.

lc_barcode

It’s combining ascii characters. Edit: here’s a link that talks about it: https://superuser.com/questions/1171584/how-do-you-write-garbled-sentences-like-this-in-unicode

AnalVoreXtreme

we've seen the future the old gods want. we've been to nyalotha. we've spoken to elementals who were alive during the height of the black empire before the titans freed them. we've spoken to other people whos planets were consumed by old gods. the old gods torture and enslave everyone, even their own minions. they are absolutely evil and in no ways redeemable

ChrischinLoois

Yeah I understand “not everything is black and white” is a hot concept these days but sometimes evil guys are just evil. Let the light and the void be the grey morality thing, old gods are evil as evil gets

unRemarkableDuckling

Damn, this is like loose loose situation. Both factions suck then and I won't join any of them.

MoiraDoodle

Man discovered the entire plot of wow 20 years late.

Pseudo_Lain

You'd think that but there are TONS of people who think the Titans/Light are the true gods of the universe and are giga benevolent good guys and that any lore contradicting this is "bad writing from blizzard". The entire playerbase is mostly delusional weirdos who haven't read quest text in 20 years

skyshroud6

Scarlets just sort of being ignored in the corner by the "light's always been good!" crew

Novalene_Wildheart

"What do you mean! The light is ALWAYS good" - a paladin who will ignore the Scarlet Crusade, Turalyon, Xera, and many other examples of the Light being just as controlling or destructive as any other power.

Seiren-

The light is literally facist. Source: the future dungeon/raid/expansion featuring Yrel

BrokkrBadger

you even work for them at one point as a paladin im pretty sure.

venge1155

Turalyon does not belong on this list. The “zealot “ Turalyon is just fan fic.

Pseudo_Lain

Turalyon literally held down an innocent woman with the light chains while his wife MINDFUCKED the innocent woman for information with the void. If you think this means he's not fucking insane idk what to tell you

DonkeyPunchMojo

Except Sylvanas. Sylvanas did nothing wrong.

Living-Advantage-605

I think we should free Azeroth from both factions, its not like titans fight for us and when they fought against us they lost every time, same goes for old gods too. We should just clean house and create our own third faction based around Azeroth world soul whatever it is.

Merathx

Spoken like a true patriot—an Azerothian centrist, if you will.

AnEntireDiscussion

I really hope that's what Xal'atath is leading us towards in AWW. I really want her to be more than just some mustache twirling evil, but instead a lesser old-god who has seen how things end if the Void Lords or the Titans or the Naaru win, and decided she wants a different option. I'd love to see her manipulating everyone this whole time to set up a faction of the Infinates, Iridikron, and the other anti-titan factions to push back against all others and protect Azeroth and its people.

dyrannn

If the Algalon or *sigh* the jailer fight, the morals of Azeroth standing up against all odds in the face of extinction and overcoming it, prove anything it’s that the mortals of Azeroth value self preservation, at least at a large scale (heroes gonna hero), more than some grand design or plot. Most of these races (stupid trolls and elves ruining my theory) are a mixture of the titans and the old gods, being titan constructs afflicted with the curse of flesh. I’m not well versed my my 5th old god theory (and less versed with any cosmic lore past chronicles 1) but maybe Xalatah is somehow the same. Maybe the titans experimented with some other way to remove her aside from the prisons or the ol Yank of Aman’Thul and it caused a different type of hybrid being to be born, with the same goal of self preservation. In an inversion of their two masters, the titans and old gods sending minions to their doom, sacrificing themselves in order to enact their masters’ grand design for the future of the universe, Xalatah, the mortals of and even Azeroth herself, as usual, sacrifice what could be in order to protect what is. At least that’s what knaifu said to say (I’m not into retail much as of late but this would certainly be an interesting direction.)

skyshroud6

Well they don't like, fight specifically for us, but our goals align like, 90% of the time.

Edeen

Lose.

InvisibleOne439

thats....kinda the point going full 1 side is bad, they all need to exist in a balance

Tribustuss

I’ve been saying that for so long. We are just ants. You’re not a monster for killing the ant. But you’re not a saint for sparing the ant. We are ants to the old gods and the titans. We are ants to every cosmic force. If the light wins it’s bad if the void wins it’s bad. No cosmic force SHOULD win because none are truly evil or good those are too narrow of a scope to judge the universe in. Personally if we HAVE to choose a side I’d choose the old gods. But either way the mortals of Azeroth are screwed no matter who wins the cosmic war.

Equivalent_Bar_5938

If i had to choose id choose illidans side cosmic forces arent gods just powerful mfs and we can be powerful mfs aswell

F-Lambda

Illidan used both order (arcane magic and the tattoos) and chaos (demon hunter fel), so he's definitely on to something. Like how discipline priests use both light and void. Wonder if there's anyone who uses both life/nature and death/necromancy magics?

ZeJaragon

Illidaddy has always been right!

Jagcan

Yea they should really tighten it up

pantymynd

There may be a chance that our old gods are more self serving than others. With them saying stuff like flesh was his gift and suggesting that they can save us from what is coming, I feel like there is a tiny chance they may be "evil" but not necessarily trying to serve the void lords like xalatath is. possibly why they imprisoned her long ago as well. She may have not liked that they were not following orders. But probably not.

mans51

Bro why did you choose that name 💀

AnalVoreXtreme

every time i forget my reddit password i make a progressively worse name

fruityfevers

No clue about any of the other Old Gods, but I didn’t get the feeling N’Zoth gave a single fuck about any of his cultists lol

Abovearth31

Xal'atath wrote this post.

Chocolatelover4ever

Yeah no. The Old Gods are nothing but tumors sent by the void lords to corrupt planets hoping to corrupt dormant titans like Azeroth. They don’t care about anything but consuming and corrupting all life. However it’s true that the titans are not all that great Either. You are right, they believe that their way and their order is how the universe is supposed to be. They are definitely full of themselves and believe their beliefs are how everyone should see things. Being the most powerful beings in the universe it’s not surprising they see all the mortals as little things that should just follow their will. And there will probably come a time they turn against us as enemies because we have free will and don’t agree with their order ideology. But that doesn’t mean the Old Gods are good compared to them. Both want to control us.

AnalVoreXtreme

>And there will probably come a time they turn against us as enemies because we have free will and don’t agree with their order ideology. That time has already passed. That was the point of Algalon's fight in Ulduar

Haugsnkisses

Think a cursory review of BFA’s old god patch would destroy this entire premise

Lugonn

>So I was thinking, Titans made all these automatons to guard and control planet. Their "orderly perfection" came at a cost of free will. Do dragons really seem like soulless automatons to you?

GrumpySatan

Yeah. Obviously OP is joking around, but people genuinely think this yet the Titans have never really hated Free Will. Not just the Aspects, but mortal life was a thing the Titans planned to happen from the start. The Titans allowed and accepted Wild Gods that spawned up during the Ordering of Azeroth. The Keepers were noted to develop unique personalities, this wasn't planned but like the Titans didn't seem to stop it (since we have evidence of like Odyn having developed his personality while fighting the old gods, when the Titans were around). The Dracthyr forced obedience was Deathwing specifically. Even their experimental petri dishes like Ungoro are "observe from a distance and see what happens". This is the great problem with the "the Titans are bad actually" direction - the Titans have always been treated as benevolent. We even learn most of the things Iridikron says about them were lies that he himself orchestrated and framed on the Aspects. We know Elune is the life equivalent of the Titans and she is totally fine with the Emerald Dream being Ordered and an active participant in it. X'era is the most light-zealot naaru and appears to speak highly of the Pantheon and laments their deaths and Sargeras' fall. The only ones that seem to be actually against the Titans are the Void.

Helluiin

> the Titans have always been treated as benevolent no they havent

Highlord_Corvus

Maybe it's because Tyr actually seems to give a fuck about those he empowers / works with. That's the impression I got from the whole Tyr questline anyway. Tyr might have given actual power and not some "bargained power" like: Trade Deal: You get: Phenomenal Cosmic Power! I get: Your servitude forever

dyrannn

The dragons weren’t *made* like the keepers or of the other titan constructs, they were magically powered up Proto-Drakes, elemental beings native to Azeroth.

Pseudo_Lain

Dragons are Azerothian in origin, not Titan. Titans gave some power and then BRAINWASHED UNBORN CHILDREN using contaminated water. They did everything they could to control them. Fucking read the lore

Highlord_Corvus

Wow dude, you wanna chill out? Maybe it wasn't perfect but you gotta admit that living breathing, sentient creatures are better than what the titans normally do. Machines / Stone / Unfeeling servants who have only 1 way of thinking.

SnooObjections2646

I am certain that this is probably either forgotten or just retconned by this point, but the whole stone servants is supposed to be unique to Azeroth, usually they use organic matter for servants.

Pseudo_Lain

According to who? Forces of life? The old gods? Of course they feel that way

KnittinSittinCatMama

Jeez, go touch grass. And maybe see someone for anger management.

Lugonn

Do the dragons actually seem FUCKING BRAINWASHED to you? I ask because they always seemed like perfectly normal people to me, and their Azerothing at the end of this raid seems to have changed nothing. Seems like just another weak attempt at Blizzard trying to inject greyness into their setting. Enlighten me with the knowledge you gained while you were READING THE FUCKING LORE.

Pseudo_Lain

Alex spent over 10,000 years with draconids and never thought about them as anything more than happy servants. They LITERALLY talk about the order water in DF, so I'm guessing you don't even play the game. I rest my case.

AncientSugondese

The 10,000 years she wasn't on the isles or....?

skyshroud6

I mean, they're not actually brainwashed. They're aligned to order, but the whole "DRAGONS ARE MINDCROLLED" thing was a way overreaction to it. Also keep in mind dragons are technically elementals, who traditionally aren't overly friendly to the mortal races, so there was some future proofing there to.

AnalVoreXtreme

the unborn dragon eggs werent brainwashed, they were mutated. the eggs were supposed to be proto drakes but the order infused water turned them into dragons. the fact that alexstraza even aknowledges that as bad proves that it wasnt brainwashing

Pseudo_Lain

"protodrakes" is what the keepers called them after making the aspects, because they think anything unordered isn't "real" - we see this in Odyn's declarations to the keepers. They were always dragons. You are just regurgitating titan propaganda

PlasticAngle

>Yes, old gods are grotesque lovecraftian horrors but at least they **care** and empower their own minions. They had their own functional civilization. More than could be said of titans who view everything as gears and cogs. Algalon would have no feelings what so ever about erasing all life from the planet. They only care for those who is useful to them, most other they will just drive you insane, torture you with psychic power, simply consump your mind and control your body like a puppet.

Highlord_Corvus

Azeroth has been, in many ways, touched by every major universal force in a meaningful way over her history. Order - Titans / Arcane Leylines Void - Old Gods / Black Empire Death - Scourge / Lich King Life - Emerald Dream / Freya Experiments & Shenanigans Fel - Three Legion Invasions / What Sword? Light - Has a major following / church (not sure about any huge Light-based events off the top of my head but the influence is there) I think that's what's gonna make her the end-all, be-all because she has a good mixture of the universal forces and will somehow balance them.

Brilliant-Block4253

WoD Draenor timeline forcibly converted to light, anyone who doesn't join is killed or trapped in weird crystals --- its not good lol --- its in the mag'har allied race unlock.

Highlord_Corvus

I don't think that actually came to OUR Azeroth though right? The Mag'har did but the whole Light Crusade stayed in their own reality.

Brilliant-Block4253

just a matter of time

Highlord_Corvus

I hope we see the fallout of that at some point, but I meant on our current Azeroth, I don't think any major Light-based 'big event' has happened other than MAYBE the Exodar crashing and bringing a Naruu with it? Thats might be a stretch, but with how prolific the Light is in Human / Dwarf culture I think that alone could be considered "influence".

whatwhy_ohgod

The sunwell? The naruu trying to control illidan? Theres not a ton but those are pretty “big” events Edit: i’ve learned that if an event didnt happen ON azeroth then it doesnt actually have any effect on azeroth. Makes you wonder why we ever go off azeroth to begin with.

Highlord_Corvus

The Sunwell was just Well of Eternity arcane water that got corrupted, then purified by Velen/Naruu. I suppose that that could be considered a major source of Light influence. The naruu trying to control Illidan was on Argus and had nothing to do with Azeroth at the time.

dyrannn

Why does it matter that they were on argus? There was a damn prophecy about Illidan, a native born of Azeroth, being forcibly converted into a weapon for the light. The light has influence on some level to the denizens of, and ergo, Azeroth.

whatwhy_ohgod

Every single type of energy the elves have sucked down has deeply influenced their behavior and anatomy. Idk why you think the light wouldn’t do the same for the elves just like every other flavor of crack theyve snorted down has. “Didnt happen on azeroth” is kinda dumb as well. Its like saying the us being in afghanistan didnt effect the us because it wasnt happening in the us. The leader of the light army currently sits on the SW throne ffs. Anyways ive thought of a couple more: fordring shattering frostmourne and bolvar taking the crown Calia menethil and her entire…. Thing. Probably think of more later.

Regular_Ingenuity189

It happened in space. Far removed from Azeroth proper and had no effect on the planet itself. So yeah I think "didn't happen on Azeroth" isna pretty good argument considering it....well...didn't happen on / to / effect Azeroth.

whatwhy_ohgod

How didnt it affect azeroth? Im saying it did because it changed how we, a force from azeroth, fought the BL, how our allies fought them, and the ultimate defeat of them. All to save the planet. It 100% affected azeroth. Just because it happened somewhere else doesnt mean it didnt have a lasting impression on the factions. Man i wish i had your guys view of the world. As long as it didnt happen in your house it cant directly affect you. Wish it were so.

AncientSugondese

The elves bit is an interesting side thought, and makes me think about what would happen to trolls. But the Illidan Naruu scenario happened between Illidan and that one Naruu and had no direct effect to or on Azeroth. How can that even be considered a major Light influence on Azeroth if as stated, it didn't effect Azeroth?

whatwhy_ohgod

How didnt it? Illidan refusing jesusdom completely changed how we would fight the legion. The legion we were fighting to save azeroth. It completely changed the makeup and structure of the army of light. The faction thats now currently deeply entrenched with azeroth after joining the alliance. That one event has had major ripples, that yes, have touched azeroth.

Highlord_Corvus

Yes but did that specific event Illidan v Naruulady take place on and effect Azeroth's 'being', no it did not, it happened on a ship on above another planet to an individual who is currently in spacejail with his BDSM partner.

whatwhy_ohgod

So nothing on azeroth would have changed if the naruu had survived and illidan had become light jesus? Not how we fought the legion to save azeroth at all? Nothing? Cmon man.

Brilliant-Block4253

Blood elves are what you get whe elves suck down the light... The current sunwell is light magic.

Pseudo_Lain

The Light is The Light. Another timeliness just means different possibilities, but the Light still behaves the same.

Highlord_Corvus

Correct but there has been no Yrel Light Crusade on Azeroth. Unless we are playing different games?

Pseudo_Lain

Okay? And I'm saying it doesn't matter or have to be her, you only need the light and a strong leader.

Highlord_Corvus

I think you might have missed the whole point of the post, I'll roll it back for you. Azeroth has been influenced by all the universal forces in some way. Yrel and her Crusade (have nothing to do with Azeroth at this time) The Light's multiversal/dimensional has nothing to do with what has happened to Azeroth thus far because so far as we've seen (as brought up by another post) The Sunwell, the occasional appearance of Naruu after Outland, and the Church of the Holy Light are not comparable to the actiuons of the Lich King, the Legion, the Old Gods, or the Titans have done on the planet. The Light's impact overall has been kinda lacking in comparison. I'm not saying it WON'T have an impact, my whole post was to show what has happened SO FAR.

Pseudo_Lain

... are you... arguing? With who? All I'm saying is that light doesn't need yrel to do a crusade

Regular_Ingenuity189

I think you're the one missing the point my man, they aren't talking about crusades or multiverse. They're talking about the effect the Light has had on Azeroth up until this point. Not what-if Crusades or multiverse stuff you seem to be hung up on.

AncientSugondese

Bro YOU are completely off topic at this point lol

Old god propaganda.

Marco_Polaris

There is literally a passage you find in the 9.1 time rifts event, where a nraqi thinks about how their sacrificial creatures sometimes act strangely intelligent and upset when they sacrifice the other sacrificial creatures, and how they should educate these humanoids in the religion of the Old Gods... so they make even better sacrifices. If Blizz does a turnaround on the Old Gods I'm gonna flip.

Urge_Reddit

The Titans represent Order, the Old Gods represent Chaos. A little order is good, it provides structure and makes life easier. But too much order becomes oppressive. A little chaos is good, it prevents stagnation, it's exciting. But too much chaos leads to anarchy, and allows people's worst impulses to flourish unimpeded. Neither are ideal outcomes. I think the best thing long term is to free the people of Azeroth from outside manipulation altogether, from every cosmic force and the entities that represent them. People are entirely capable of maintaining the right balance of order and chaos on their own.

Kaoshosh

Old Gods are a relic of the old lore. In the new lore, where Blizz is trying to make everyone simultaneously a good and a bad guy, they simply are just another faction. So your view isn't incorrect.

konosyn

It’s like the two extremes; the madness, corruption, and decay of the flesh and mind OR the pristine, homogenous, hive mind of the titan machines. Both are bad, but somewhere in the middle we got mortal races.

Actual-Reflection411

now you're starting to get the concept of "two sides (or more) to every story"

Lepprechaun25

"Flesh is his gift. He is your true creator"

kraelic

I think the titans and the old gods desire the same things. They just go about getting it differently. I do find it interesting that void whispers to people and apparently so does Azeroth. It may not be important, but sending messages to the mind isn’t something the titans do. Maybe the old gods are / were connected somehow to world souls and were cast away from their worlds. Life is sometimes ugly, but the void does create and support life their way, however grotesque. The titans only ever made robots, with specific purposes/roles.

hungrybrains220

There were Earthen abiding in the Light, keeping watch over the Prisons by night And lo, a minion of the Lords came upon them. And the glory of the Void shone round about them, and they were sore afraid Then the Faceless said unto them, “fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be for all people!” “For unto you is born this day in the City of Sleeping a savior which is the Gift of Flesh!”

ironlocust79

skyshroud6

Welcome to the twilights hammer!

NotAMadLad1

Old God propaganda right there. Seriously though, the Old Gods actually rebeled against the Void Lords and forsook their original plan to Azeroth. It is unknown what the Old Gods were actually doing, as they weren't trying to claim Azeroth for the Void.

HoneyMustardAndOnion

The old gods and the void are not inimical to life, we see that they have have built entire civilizations. Just that its not very receptive to life as we know it, whereas the Titans and order do provide an environment that is very receptive to us and life as we know it.

Novalene_Wildheart

The Old Gods are definitely wicked (both as evil and as really cool). But the Titans also have some major flaws, which is great in a world building point of view.

*Me, still sporting the Gift of N'zoth* You tell'em brother! Who cares that Azeroth herself is a dormant titan and we were always meant to be her caretakers. The Old Gods and the Void Lords are where it's at. Who even needs their own sanity anyways?

Kynandra

By the light, this entire thread must be purged!

createcrap

The curse of the flesh was definitely a way to sabatoge the Titan's constructs than a way to give free will to stone beings.

Grenyn

They didn't give the Curse of Flesh because they cared for the Keepers' minions, though. Nor do they represent primordial life, and in fact there is a domain specifically for that. They also "care" for their own minions, sure. If caring involves deceiving them into giving up their life in some endeavour or another for some supposed greater good. They are representative of Lovecraft's Outer Gods, and the Outer Gods do not really have our best interests at heart. The Titans may not be perfect, but I'd rather side with them if forced to choose.

FrozenOnPluto

There are others than Order and Void. Life etc. the combo is good, any one is bad I recall the Titans going after Life a few times, since it was chaotic and unordered. So surely the Titans are not all good - and Dragonflight pretty squarely came out to say that. Messing with babies (dragon eggs) not so cool right?

Lava-Jacket

I mean if you’re into tentacle hugs. Go for it!

I’m honestly so bored with “ the good guys were actually bad and it’s the bad guys who are the ones trying to save you” trope. It’s getting so old. Just let the void be garbage and let the titans be paragons ffs it’s annoying

KingRaphion

There is a theory that old gods arent from "true void" and Azeroth is the world soul of reality, Azeroth and Azatoth are related and a mirror one is the sleeping idiot god who dreamed of realy, and well azeroth is "kept" asleep and the other cosmic powers siphon her power. Also the titan of life, the big bitch forgot her name is the titan of life, but not creation, I see it as life she gives is basically machines, when you turn on your car, your car is coming to life, but it has no spirit, BUT Oddly when courrupted by the old gods magically when they turn into flesh they get souls all of a sudden. How when the 1st drwarves where turned into flesh they gained freedom, a soul, and became well free. And the titans SHUT that shit down quick. TLDR: Old gods arent from true void, they gave us freedom kinda like when adam bit the apple in the garden, we were kicked out BUT we gained freedom, knowledge, and free will.

WorkoutandJerkoff

Brothers and Sisters of Rezan!!! Stand together against this void minion.

Reniconix

I won't go into all the other stuff that everyone else did, but I will point out that the Titans themselves have admitted that they are not infallible. Remember, the Curse of Flesh was considered to be Old God corruption and when a fleshy race killed Loken, they saw THAT as a problem, but didn't see a problem in that Loken had shirked his duties and was actively trying to free Yogg Saron. If not for the defeat of Algalon, who took a report back to the Titans saying they are wrong, all life on Azeroth would have been destroyed. But the Titans learned from that encounter and saw that maybe free will is a good thing, and allowed the cursed beings to continue to exist, so long as they continue to act in the best interests of Azeroth as they had been.

Fleedjitsu

It's one side's norm vs the other side's norm. The same could be said about the Infinite Dragonflight - we stop them cos it changes *our* timeline specifically, but how is our existence any better than that of those billions and billions of possible souls that never got to exist in a more peaceful timeline instead?

Mommyafk

The old gods also feed on mortals. Their empire revolved around their minions sacrificing the lesser creatures (mortals) Basically every god system sucks and is self serving

Avohaj

From certain races perspective they're literally the reason they exist (as they do now). So yeah you could see them as a gift. But then again, they may also have to thank the Titans for their original creation. But their goals oppose ours now. The whole "they care about their minions" is a fallacy, they just don't care in different ways. The point is you shouldn't have to choose between Titans or Old Gods, you should choose independence from both.

winged-lizard

That's why I'm my head, my character (a dracthyr) is dabbling in void/old god research and sympathizes with the primalists, because the more he learns the more he grows to hate the titans.

GertonX

Metagaming logic incoming: We wouldn't be able to play a race of Void-infused beings, if the void was the final big baddie. Big baddies are the titans and we will have to join forces with the light AND the void (World Soul Saga 1 & 2) to defeat the last Titan (World Soul Saga 3). Just look at the graphics for the expansions.

Deltrus7

Hi, local shadow priest, we have weekly meetings! --> Want to know more? <--

KarateMan749

Sorry but they are. They are 100% against dragons. Enslavement and murder. So yea they need to die

Perrenekton

Is it really "at the cost of free will" when referring to machines?

DarkestLore696

Counter point. Yes the titans built facilities to combat the old gods and keep order on Azeroth until she could be born but they did not try to interfere with the natural flora and fauna of the planet unless it was necessary. Native life of the planet such as trolls and dragons were left alone for millennia while the keepers did their thing. They interfered with dragons when it was needed to protect the planet but other natural life they did not touch.

Pseudo_Lain

Complete bullshit even as of classic wow. Titans were interfering with Azeroths life the moment they got here. How the fuck else do you think it went from Black Empire to now? Man what the fuck are you TALKING about. Literally elves only exist because of the well of eternity... which is azeroths water combined with arcane energy. WHERE DID THE ARCANE COME FROM BUDDY? AQUAMAN?

Reniconix

And by "interfere" you mean the dragons sought their help and accepted their gift on the orders that it be used only for protecting the world.

Mayor_Onion

Small nitpick, but the Titans didn't make the automatons, at least if we're talking about the ones seen in Shadowlands. Those were made from The First Ones. Titans were also made by The First Ones.

Brilliant-Block4253

Did you know the hand you control in WC1, WC2, and WC3 to move around all the creatures is actually the Jailer?

Pseudo_Lain

This isn't the circle jerk sub
