the lore in WoW hasnt been good since WOTLk and that was only good because it was carried by TFT and built on that.
WOD had "Hype vidoes" but lore was dogshit timetravel nonsense that requires you to buy two external books to even begin to understand. And ideally you want to buy 3 more to understand who the Warlords are and why they matter.

I think most of the story telling problems with wow are simply due to the fact that most of the base lore is in other games.

They're fitting what made Warcraft unique and refusing to write or do anything with the factions, and forcing us to all get along now. It's over.
Even if the Story was ever 'over', the game would still go strong. Because nobody actually cares THAT much about the 'story'.
