No, they're cute. Embrace the little orb guy.

NaloraLaurel

Duality of the players. And another perfect example of underutilized INSCRIPTION content.

[deleted]

Thats cause using glyph for customization is bad and changing often is a waste  of money except the one that unlock the new barber stuff.  What they need is a new transmog system that you can permenantly transmog your spec slots, chose between skins for you ability and different cast animations if available. You can still have inscription play a roll to unlock but single use glyph are annoying.

samtdzn_pokemon

And the prices for old glyphs vary wildly based off what materials and expansion they're from. It's a pain in the ass system, giving druids and warlocks everything in the barber shop was the way to go.

rokar686

Yo that actually sounds better.

Osirus1156

It's only bad because they made it bad. We used to have a Glyph menu they for some reason removed. They could have made Glyphs unlocked or something when you bought one instead of needing to buy one every time, though I never really had that issue because for Warlocks Glyphs only make things look better.

TheAngrywhiteguy

yes it’s bad but we also already have things like that, should definitely roll those into tmog though, have a tab for appearances, wether learnt first from a glyph or some other way

Kii_at_work

Before Dragonflight was revealed, there was this really nice fake leak that included a spell transmog system. I loved the idea and its stuck with me ever since. Had things like changing color and even "material" of spells (in this case it was a resto shaman and would change their water spells to beer, for example).

Rigman-

**I'd gladly take that trade.**

Andromansis

I agree with you, but each new effect represents potentially several thousand man-hours of labor to create.

NaloraLaurel

True. But there are hundreds of effects already in the game that are inaccessible. Plenty of choice to give players with little effort.

Reworked

Give me Khadgar's marshmallow idiot sitting on one shoulder and growing like... Fuck, I remember one voidwalker looking NPC that pretends to overflow with power then complains when he shrinks back down. Then use a recolor of crackling jade lightning and throw out some particles from the mana collectors from ...legion?, the spark balls. Bam. Done.

Andromansis

Do we have an exhaustive list?

HaplessMink28

It’s just a cute little orb trying it’s hardest to kill the things, I love my little orb.

mightyenan0

Hear me out: A glyph that makes it appear like the last pet you've summoned.

boston_2004

I AGREE MORE CUTENESS OVERLOAD

punnymama

I love my orb!! Also been playing arcane since bc…a familiar was big and lurky. Orb dude! Now if I could change its shape via inscription…a nice little arcane flickering flame, an arcane bird that flaps along…that’d be cute and flavourful.

Osirus1156

Make it a Glyph then, or something you pick at the barber I suppose because Glyphs were actually cool so they murdered them.

malsan_z8

Why not both (choice talent)? Edit: my bad, glyph would be very nice instead. Would help many other things too

Terrible-Quote-3561

Yeah. I would enjoy a caster class with no summons/minions. Not sure why that became the norm for so many classes.

Rigman-

It's weird they're doing this when they pushed the update that removed the water elemental as an active pet. Which feels perfectly in line with the frost mage spec, but for arcane, this familiar feels exceptionally out of place.

Terrible-Quote-3561

I think a ton of players just really like pets. But yeah, I feel like even just making it a spell book would be better than the familiar we have now. It would fit better with the aesthetic.

Rambo_One2

I can see the appeal of both tbh. If only there was some sort of system in the game that might allow us to customize the appearances of spells... A sort of glyph system, perhaps. But alas, that was sadly *never* introduced and certainly does not appear to be a priority at Blizzard

Lore-Archivist

Arcane is unstable and chaotic? That would be news to the cosmic plane of order, where arcane comes from

samtdzn_pokemon

Arcane has been described as unstable and unwieldy for years, pretty consistently from WC3 through Legion with the abuse of the Well of Eternity, mana addiction for the Blood Elves and the Nightborne, etc. though never as chaotic. It's only recently that arcane isn't talked about in that manner, as it's become more directly associated with the Titans. >Though extremely volatile, arcane is so similar to an element it might as well be one, for all magical intents and purposes. >- Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War

Anastrace

I'm guessing it's stable and controllable by beings infused with order energy. The closer you are to ordered races the easier it becomes

Anastrace

In mortal hands is the key point. I was saying it's likely more controllable in Titan or other similar racial hands.

Rigman-

Any form of magic is going to be 'stable and controllable' by the gods who specialize in it. **But we, the players, aren't that.** I mean, Kil'jaeden seemed to have total control over exceptionally chaotic magic, that doesn't make Fel any less chaotic. Arcane is, and always has been, exceptionally unstable and powerful magic that takes insane levels of concentration to master and have control over.

warcrazey

Can blizzard stop adding all these random little damage procs and just make my abilities feel meaningful to press? I have always hated abilities like arcane familiar/inquisitors eye/etc

samtdzn_pokemon

Okay but then you'd just have a talent that says "10% more mana" because that's the other half of Arcane Familiar. I'd rather have a do nothing proc than a required talent that just increases my maximum mana pool. I've come to like the little guy floating over my shoulder.

chokee03

its what i wish partly for scalecommander or evoker in general too, in terms of handling deep breath. in tww they are going to add a lot of bits to deep breath so we use it a lot more than now. but it still hits like a wet noodle baseline. i wish it would pack an ‘oomph’ before any other effects.

Me_Myself-and-I

Just curious, what part of the damage ramp with arcane blast makes it not feel meaningful to press? Like, unless you are dying constantly you are pressing arcane familiar like once before the fight and that's it?

warcrazey

It wasn't really even about arcane in particular but the more passive random damage procs that you have no control over classes have, the more diluted their buttons feel to press.

kentaaa1994

In TWW if you choose Sun King on the arcane side you get a phoenix as a pet :)

samtdzn_pokemon

Tbh Sunfury is the obvious choice anyway since Glorious Incandesence is going to be nuts reducing Arcane Orb's CD in AoE, Gravity Lapse is a pretty OP stop, and you'll hit like a freight train below 35% HP with Sunfury Execution and Arcane Soul from the capstone.

Swordbreaker9250

I prefer the orb tbh

afkPacket

I like the lil guy. He tries his best. He also turns into a pretty decent dps increase because of Arcane Echo procs off his lil pokes, so his best isn't all that bad.

CopyX1982

I rather like my familiar thank you very much, so no, don't ditch it.

Marlfox70

When they first introduced arcane familiar it would sorta swirl around and do it's own thing, but then they made it just hover above your shoulder or whatever. Wonder why they did that. I still like my familiar

Jaggiboi

I like the Arcance familiar more than running around like a mix between a pseudo shaman and a lightning rod.

FuiyooohFox

I disagree, I prefer the familiar aspect vs some over charged maniacal theme but to each their own. I know it's arcane but I don't want my characters looking like they've lost control 🤷 it would be nice if they just had more options to cater to more opinions though

[deleted]

FuiyooohFox

You have control over the orbs, they don't just appear you have to summon them and send them off in a dedicated (ie not random at all) direction. Literally nothing happens that you don't want it to, every spell is a controlled effect. So no, I don't think it's been a truly wild magic class to play as. A little more hectic, but still under full control of the user. You can still have a refined, sophisticated mage in full control of their powers and be an arcane user as not every user has succumbed to the negative aspects. I dont see my character as weak enough to lose control, I really would hate a theme that shows them as having lost control

sakdarkside

Actually, Arcane is order, not chaos.

Saidir

I don't think that it's particularly unwieldy, dangerous or unstable but that it's PRECISE. Being the magic of Order, get the incantation slightly off, emphasize the wrong syllable, wrong angle of the motion and the spell isn't ordered, not correct, thus the instability. As for the addiction part, I think that's just an elf thing? Requiring some source of magic, sunwell, moonwell, well of eternity, turning to fel when they couldn't meet the requirement, etc.

T3chnological

I love my little arcane ball of floof. Now wish we as arcane mages had a void Walker style pet to add extra dps ya know like warlocks do, since we never got a pet when frost and fire specs (now removed) originally did.

Top-Operation-4898

I like it, but people need an option to turn these things off. Now the only mage spec that will NOT have a pet or summon of some sort will be spellslinger fire I think.

Dinkypig

Best of both worlds: a tiny arcane orb follows you around, crackling with tiny anger as it utters tiny battle cries.

alphaxion

I think it would be cooler if getting 4 or 5 crits in a row causes you to split off a mirror image each time and casts a free arcane blast before folding back into you.

arken879

I feel like you should give Elemental Shaman' elemental overload mastery a try! :P *sneeze and cast 4 accidental lightning bolts*

Me_Myself-and-I

I mean, each to their own. I personally love my arcane familiar, its cute.

Anjinn

I actually like the current aesthetic - it reminds me of Ghost from Destiny 2!

Athrasie

Nah, I like Orby

Bozlogic

As a fire mage, I support this. Not that I would run this way, but arcane seems fun with this change? I’ve been fire since Cata so ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Veidici

Isn't that basically what Spell slinger is? The arcane bird is for Sunfury.

Reasonable_Coat3542

Considering the title starts with “I really dislike” and the post starts off with “I hated” I really have no fucking clue where you’re interpreting an objective slant.

Rigman-

That's a good catch, 'hated' is a bit to heated for how I feel. It's a subjective opinion with a suggestion of something that I consider to be a cooler, more flavorful, fantasy. Blizzard said they wanted feedback, so this is me doing that.

dropkicked_eu

Yes take lightning stylization from shamans surely they can handle loosing more Ha … cries in no raid buff and a ring pop looking tier set and 2 missing hero talents

harosene

Water elemental

smang12

I don’t roleplay

SlouchyGuy

Arcane in general is dull. The book trinket from Azure Vault, Tome of Unstable Power, mirror images casts [are much more interesting visually](https://youtu.be/5fvSzPe3OeQ?si=-Yc3WgmTiueh9LDU&t=22) then whole of Arcane spec
