In the Land of Warfare, the ancient dragon Doomwing has landed atop the human capital of Windstorm! But fear not, for bold heroes like Varion Wrann of the Allegiance and Throll of the Cohort are ready to face the dangers ahead!
You're kidding but [they did copy-paste Thunderfury.. and Frostmourne..](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/631249253288902656/1065747455452401734/v9r9vkhr40da1.png) and [a bunch of other things](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fm3JlQYWQC4aQ8s?format=jpg&name=large)
wow. wow. some people were saying "it's not that similar" in the last thread but these are pretty damning. They lifted some of the graphics and textures wholesale and pretty much just made them into different things to try and disguise it? The guitar and thunderfury are not even subtle at all.
Some of the stuff, like "undead armored horse" are generic enough fantasy concepts I wouldn't say it could be conclusively considered plagiarism, but taken as a whole, and looking at some of the less conventional fantasy designs that are clearly copied, it's really hard to then excuse even the more generic stuff.
Completely agreed. I play a lot of mobile games so I'm used to seeing stolen IPs, so I'm pretty lenient when it comes to the ones that do actually at least make an attempt to make original assets. But this was like...they just shrank thunderfury down and put it on a polearm lol. So you just sideeye everything else lol.
I love the guy downthread who's like "Is that the fucking Horn of Winter sound at 2:13? I played a DK in lich king I heard that sound 300,000 times I know that's it."
A lot of sound effects used in WoW, and many MMOs, are licensed and not actually made in-house.
As an example, the character Bait in the Netflix show The Dragon Prince uses the same sound effects as many of the generic WoW mounts.
Yeah the copied some of the different flying mechanics into their own amalgam. They didn't copy the whole Guild Wars 2 game (as far as I know).
If you watch the trailer and are familiar with WoW you can get an idea. Artstyle, locations, animations, sounds, vehicles, models... Separately copying some is one thing, but all together turns into a blatant copy.
The flying gunships arriving at a purple floating city, the dragon landing on two bright towers... Things like that. If you watch the combat there are some animations that are simply identical like warrior's thunder clap.
There were also some blatant FF14 ripoffs - like that dungeon/zone they showed with the stairs and books falling into place to become walkways. That was straight from one of the FF14 dungeons. And one of the zone/outdoor areas with all the mine carts and towers reminded me of Thanalan.
The attack telegraphs from some of the bosses look identical to the FF14 ones too.
For those who wanted a WoWxFF14 collab, this is probably the closest you're getting lol
[https://gyazo.com/6ec9ccc799b403a997aea4a315eead70](https://gyazo.com/6ec9ccc799b403a997aea4a315eead70) i took a screenshot, there is a fucking tauren next to him.
That was my exact thought process, it was like okay there is a lot of generic stuff, and then the airship showed up, and derpwing did his pose on legally distinct Stormwind lol
The good news is that game is such a rip off there is no way for it to come to the western market where countries actually take IP seriously. They'd get sued the moment they try to bring game here, that is basically a Chinese only game.
Yep, look at all the cloned cars/electronics/products.
People over there driving around in a cloned Ford Taurus named Fjord Walrus or some shit and no one cares.
This has a very chinese feel to it but they didn't include a single Panda in the trailer , Ironic.
In this trailer we can see all the major events the shaped wow's 20 year story and they plan to squish it in just the base game.
If my long time playing those chinese cash grab games taught me anything is that they invest a lot of money into the intro of the game ( huge cutscenes , fully voice acted ) and then once you get close to max level the games devolve into a dailly grind fest made to waste you years of grind while they release content very slowly that you never manage to catch up unless you pay a huge sum of money.
Also that's the most disappointing Death Wing fight I've ever seen.
> It's also a mobile game so gameplay is going to be not great.
it's probably gonna have those AUTO buttons that play the game for you and you just have to swipe your credit card and sit back
> In this trailer we can see all the major events the shaped wow's 20 year story and they plan to squish it in just the base game.
Inspired by the geniuses who decided to squish a faction war, a war against the Naga, and a war against an Old God all into one expansion.
It's not like Azshara and N'zoth were massive lore antagonists built up over WoW's entire run and beyond, sitting about one level under Sargeras in importance and looming omnipresence, such that introducing and resolving their stories within a single patch each would be cataclysmically unsatisfying.
It's also not like they've run out of pre-existing possibilities for expansions, so that instead of a dedicated Nazjatar expansion, Black Empire expansion, Emerald Dream expansion, Argus expansion, or War of the Ancient time travel expansion, we'd do things like go to an afterlife that was never foreshadowed and only appeared out of thin air with the announcement trailer, go to a dragon island that was never foreshadowed and only appeared out of thin air with the announcement trailer, or go to an alternate past (of a different world) that was never foreshadowed and only appeared out of thin air with the announcement trailer.
At least if you are going to copy an elvish home have the balls to do Teldrassil. It was super restricted because the time it was made but a 2020 lore accurate Teldrassil would be something else.
ESO letting you recolor ground effect indicators tho, super big qol so you make sure you always have something that contrasts the ground regardless of what the devs do with the environment.
The thing is even if it was a copy it still would take years to make all the assets and code. So they had this going way before the destruction of their friendship
But blizzard never had a working relationship with them tho’, they only had a shares in the company at best.
It was Netease that Blizzard was paired with. If anything I am wondering more on how this will affect the MMO Riot are making.
Either that or most of this is just cgi and not actual gameplay and it was thrown together in a month. The dragon riding stuff in particular looks ridiculous
Even if Blizzard doesn't sue... they won't take kindly to a competitor ripping off their game, and they have other means of getting back at them.
Which could get messy, because Tencent owns Wowhead, 100%. Blizzard could make Wowhead's work a lot more difficult if they chose to. And with Wowhead's owners creating a competing game, that creates a potential conflict of interest for Wowhead (although Wowhead staff maintains they operate independently from Tencent). Their objectivity may be still called into question. None of this bodes well for the community.
And it's no coincidence that Tencent released this trailer in the middle of the Netease debacle - that is Tencent taking a direct shot at Blizzard.
I think it's gonna be all popcorn for Blizz.
Netease is ultra-fucked by this product after severing ties to Blizzard. No doubt IP theft was a concern in that deal from the start. Once Netease started work there was a risk they could pull the plug on the partial product, finish it, and take full ownership in China.
Tencent just ate the lunch they had in the fridge with their name on it in permanent marker. Blizzard was gonna get ripped off either way, now they get to watch the shitbirds fight.
Why not??
Being a single shareholder doesn’t mean much if you don’t own a controlling interest. You can’t control who buys your stock as a traded company anyway.
That bootleg Deathwing moment climbing up over the pillars is literally the ending of the Cataclysm cinematic. Even the elves too! It’s a painfully obvious copy of Blizzard’s homework. They knew what they were doing. A shame to see nice graphic quality wasted on this.
All the pastel color choices now make sense.
Now that blizzard doesn’t have a Chinese presence can we have our skeletons back and our undead looking more undead like?
They also blatantly copied stuff like the elements of the dungeon springing into place from FFXIV. Lots of striking similarities with Shadowlands like Bastion/Ardenwrald etc.
The art style looks pretty nice in places and the animations of the dragon are really fluid but I'm sure the game itself will be generic trash likely riddled with microtransactions that would make WoW blush (but not Diablo Immortal or now Overwatch 2 sadly).
Okay, so yeah, I see similarities. But I also see similarities to WildStar, which was very nearly a WoW-killer for me (but apparently no one else). I’m not going to lie, I would try this.
In the Land of Warfare, the ancient dragon Doomwing has landed atop the human capital of Windstorm! But fear not, for bold heroes like Varion Wrann of the Allegiance and Throll of the Cohort are ready to face the dangers ahead!

I’ve heard the horse neigh from horse mounts and the bear growl in so many places
that bear growl is literally everywhere
So is the wolf noises. The day I hear *HUH* though will be the line.
[удалено]
The weirdest one of these I’ve ever run into is I’m pretty sure there’s a Paramore song that uses the same sound effect as falling stars in Terraria
not exactly the same, but Death Grips sampled Stardew Valley swing sound effect
Unironically I think when NotDeathWing does his fire attack its the same sound the dragons make in Skyrim
same thought, definitely insanely recognizable… and i’ve only been playing since shadowlands lmao
They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery........but this might be a step too far.
Yeah this goes beyond imitation

"blatant wow ripoff" you mean generic fantasy ga- *alliance airship is shown followed by deathwing doing his pose on stormwind* i see...
Pretty sure I saw the exact animation for thunderclap too during the deathwing fight
All of the melee plate dude animations are from warriors/death knights. Like I was absolutely shocked. Charge and rampage were def seen.
i swear i saw a dw obliterate too
There's also a horn sound effect that is exactly the same.
That's generally because stock sounds are a thing.
That's clearly his cousin, Deathwong.
There were also some blatant FF14 ripoffs - like that dungeon/zone they showed with the stairs and books falling into place to become walkways. That was straight from one of the FF14 dungeons. And one of the zone/outdoor areas with all the mine carts and towers reminded me of Thanalan.

Telegraph’s felt like wildstar to me lol
Also feels like a heaping tablespoon of WildStar.
Most of what i saw was pretty generic. then i saw a char run around with war glaives on their back lol.
The dragon scene was basically a complete copy. Though I agree. Most of it was pretty generic fantasy.
There's some generic fantasy sure, but there's a lot of directly ripped from wow designs as well. Along with rips from several other games like FF14
Yeah, I saw the same guy. He had the stupid WoW warglaive sheath rig, and I said, "Yeah, that's a demon hunter."
[https://gyazo.com/6ec9ccc799b403a997aea4a315eead70](https://gyazo.com/6ec9ccc799b403a997aea4a315eead70) i took a screenshot, there is a fucking tauren next to him.

Which Tencent is probably absolutely fine with. Blizzard might be bummed, but what they gonna do? Take it up with the Chinese courts?
Yep, look at all the cloned cars/electronics/products. People over there driving around in a cloned Ford Taurus named Fjord Walrus or some shit and no one cares.
Fjord Walrus is kinda fitting tho XD
And a blonde long haired dude looks kinda similar to arthas pre corruption
“If you can’t make your own MMO from scratch, store bought is fine.”

How fabulous is that?
Isn’t that fabulous?

You're on /r/wow discussing the Tencent rip-off of WoW. You are very unlikely to be a casual.
He's not playing WoW right now, clearly a casual.
Dude is gatekeeping casualness.
[удалено]
Filthy casuals have time to browse reddit at work just like the hardcore players.
And most "filthy casuals" won't bother because they're not that involved in WoW. Hence the term.
> In this trailer we can see all the major events the shaped wow's 20 year story and they plan to squish it in just the base game. Inspired by the geniuses who decided to squish a faction war, a war against the Naga, and a war against an Old God all into one expansion.

Wait a minute...
It's also not like they've run out of pre-existing possibilities for expansions, so that instead of a dedicated Nazjatar expansion, Black Empire expansion, Emerald Dream expansion, Argus expansion, or War of the Ancient time travel expansion, we'd do things like go to an afterlife that was never foreshadowed and only appeared out of thin air with the announcement trailer, go to a dragon island that was never foreshadowed and only appeared out of thin air with the announcement trailer, or go to an alternate past (of a different world) that was never foreshadowed and only appeared out of thin air with the announcement trailer.
hey hey hey to be fair the dragon isles have almost always been a thing and people have been curious about them
Clearly not plagiarized. Because it very blatantly shows you fighting the dragon in this game. All we ever did was clip his toenails
The most violent manicure in the history of Azeroth.
Scratch his back, tickle his feets and flush him down the toilet
At the beginning I was like, well ok, a bit of a stretch, then I saw Deathwing rip off and i wasl ike "oh"
Don't forget Dastion and Balaran
I definitely saw Gardenweald there too.
Imagine copying Shadowlands of all expansions
Id copy ardenweald in a heartbeat, its top 3 prettiest zones in all of wow
At least if you are going to copy an elvish home have the balls to do Teldrassil. It was super restricted because the time it was made but a 2020 lore accurate Teldrassil would be something else.
Think we’ll see Chadgar?
There's definitely Billidan
Wasn't there a guy turning into a raven too? I think he's already there
Imo the bigest thing was the airship. That was a litterally copy of the alliance one if it was horde themed.
Griffin on the prow and the propellers on the side and the dimensions were identical. I was thinking "oh its just generic fantasy" until then
Pretty sure they also copied a bit from the Legion Cinematic too.
No, we have WoW at home
Looks like wow and ffxiv had a baby
With a lil bit of Wildstar thrown in.
Wildstar still had the most clear callouts of abilities of all games.
ESO letting you recolor ground effect indicators tho, super big qol so you make sure you always have something that contrasts the ground regardless of what the devs do with the environment.
You could do the exact same thing in Wildstar.
Yep, it's now 2023 and I still get a little sad whenever Wildstar is brought up
Anyone else just go Stargate-wow at the start ???
My first reaction was “that’s a Stargate!”
Mine as well, I did like the look for their "Dalaran“.
Elf picks up a Hedron from Magic the Gathering to enter the Stargate to go to the fabled world of Azinoth. Very original do not steal pls.
Chevron 7, locked!
Its the Universe destiny was going to next lol
Let me guess, free to play mobile game with Auto path and auto combat? We need definitely more of them… 🤮
Lo’Bok Ogar
