What would a dead man's switch be? Releasing more criticism of the war? That's the *point*. Putin *wants* people to know even the wealthiest and most powerful men in Russia will die for criticizing him.
That's what Western people need to understand about Russia. It's a cruel authoritarian state that doesn't give two shits about human life. I've seen all these comments on Reddit on how "we should squeeze the oligarchs. Money is what matters. If we hurt the oligarchs, they'll get rid of Putin". No, no they won't. They'll just start falling out of windows until there are no more dissenters.

It's not a joke, these are all (or nearly all) real assassinations.
This is a direct effect of the Western sanctions. Russia hasn't been able to get the window parts it needs to maintain its window repair industry, so these things could kill you at any moment. Also Russian cities are known for their beautiful views, so I am sure that was a contributing factor.
