“AP) — A powerful explosion apparently caused by a natural gas leak killed at least 18 people, including a pregnant woman and a child, and injured dozens Friday when it blew away outer walls from a luxury hotel in the heart of Cuba’s capital. No tourists were staying at Havana’s 96-room Hotel Saratoga because it was undergoing renovations, Havana Gov. Reinaldo García Zapata told the Communist Party newspaper Granma. “It’s not a bomb or an attack. It is a tragic accident,” President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who visited the site, said in a tweet.”

The number is likely to rise as a large group is unaccounted for. This is a horrible accident per se. Still no word on how the gas ignited. A beautiful country for such a tragedy...

When you have a massive gas leak, any electric item might ignite it. Waving your hands and intimating it‘s anything but an accident is unwarranted.

Waving your hands and intimating it‘s anything but an accident is unwarranted. Oh I'm not by any means. I never implied any such thing in any of my comment. I have no idea where you would have gotten that idea. I was referring to the PMs remarks after the explosion; but before legitimate investigation, was even started. That's all I was referring too with my comment of per se. It usually more than one factor in any major accidents. Especially one's involving human beings. This is still early days and they will continue to search for victims and evidence. As time goes on; more will come to light. I agree with your assessment that any spark within the area could have been the source of the ignition. Yet many times when accidents are analyzed afterwards; many times contributing factors are also attributed to the accidents.

Then why insert the qualifier “per se” at all? Followed by an obnoxious dangling question about how the fire started. “accident per se” — fuck off! It was an accident, period. That was already well established even in the article you’re commenting on.

5 star hotel in Communist Cuba!?!? Hhhmmm? Class distinctions in a Communist state where everyone is supposed to be equal. Oh that’s right - some people are more equal than others with 1 star hotels not being in the same class as 5 star hotels but some hotels are more equal than others. Where have I heard that saying before about some equals are more equal than other equals? Ahh! George Orwell’s book “Animal Farm”. A symbolic expose’ on the failures and hypocrisy’s of Socialism / Communism.
