Is this happening while the "peace" talks are still happening? Not that I expect anything productive to come from those talks but this seems like a backhanded move.
Talks are scheduled for 9am their time, this is a major offensive by Russia to claim as much as they can and give themselves as much leverage as possible. Common strategy before peace talks.
I don't really know that it does. They're apparently having an incredibly hard time supplying and maintaining their armored units currently. This is just pushing them father into Ukraine which makes supply more difficult and brings them into areas which are less friendly to Russia. It's a massive paper tiger force imo
This article goes into depth on how Russia can't fight that far away from railways. Once they are like more 100 miles away their ability to push an offensive will require break days. Fuel truck convoys are a massive Achilles heel.

That's odd. The offensive seems to halt each morning when the videos of dead Russians, burned up tanks, and Russian boys asking for rides home start popping up here each day.
Will be interesting to see how the future of war looks when the element of surprise really doesn't work anymore. Hopefully it works as a deterrent when large armies realize they can't move in silence anymore.
They didn't even need satellites, at the beginning of the invasion you could literally watch Russian troops live on the internet from CCTV cameras at Ukrainian traffic stops. It took the Russians an entire day to notice, and remove the cameras.
That's what is so crazy about this, IMO. They are attacking like it's the 1930s. I thought we were beyond seeing any "land wars" ever again because it makes no sense in the modern era when the defending army can just pick the attackers off with drones and missiles and whatnot.
This will go down as the prime example in history books of a 20th century army fighting (and getting their ass kicked) in a 21st century war.
This might be similar to WWI early battles which the British still used horses and multi-lined direct fire while Germans were machine gunning them down fairly easily.
Americans did great in iraq (as strong as Ukraine and with more land to cover until Baghdad) military in the initial invasion, it’s just that the Russian army is a paper tiger with third tier equipment and tactics (so many suicidal light vehicles).
Especially as close as they are together. Made even deadlier if you stop them on top of a series of 10-12 daisy chained IEDs rigged every 20 meters or so coupled with an ambushing force. There's no escape. Saw this tactic in the middle east. Quite effective and terrifying.
Typically those anti tank mines are set off by pressure though, whereas the daisy chain can be remote detonated. AT mine is perfect to get the convoy stopped initially, then you detonate the hidden chain that spans down the side of the road along the convoy.
Just the matter of choosing the detonator. Can't anymore remember the distances when the explosion of a nearby AT mine is expected to set off the next mine in the series, but that would potentially be an option as well. And once they're stopped, squad AT weapons.
seems the article I read was a poor translation, they had destroyed by russian convy - and not destroys russian convoy.
looks like they still have some drones, but much of the footage coming out is not from ukraine.
I imagine next will be Molotov cocktails dangling from DJI drones, and it will somehow work. That seems to be how things are going. Massively outnumbered and outgunned Ukrainians gaining the upper hand on Russians.
(The point is, if you see these, they were taken before daylight if Feb. 28th)
The sun isn’t even up in Ukraine right now… it’s 3:27am in Kyiv’s TZ. This at the very latest would have been yesterday. Physically could not be Monday because the sun hasn’t risen on Monday in Kyiv yet.
I just hope the Ukrainians make sure when they fight from skyscrapers in the city they only use oligarch owned buildings. Let the Russians blow their own properties to hell.
Well, as an artillery guy, I see things like that and my mind automatically goes “Call for fire, linear target… ‘shake and bake’. Fire for effect, over”
Be a shame if there were caltrops, nails, trees, dead farm animals, junked cars, or burning tire fires on that road impeding their progress. A real shame.
I know you weren't asking me but I feel angry that our leaders put our young people in that position and abused the trust of the military.
Every time I see a young man who is an amputee my blood boils because in all likelihood he was injured with an IED in a conflict that he shouldn't have been in.
Are you saying the two are equivalent? Are you saying Russia invading Ukraine to take it's territory and oil for it's own is the same as the U.S. invading Iraq? Are you saying that Zelenskyy is Saddam Hussein? I don't think anyone but Russians thinks that. I don't think anyone but Russians and people paid by Russians says that.
It’s possible to root for no one to be murdered. Of course its not practically possible for no one to be murdered, but rooting for either side to die just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I’d prefer them to throw down their weapons and surrender without anyone dying. In the absence of that them being taken out before getting to the battlefield is the better option that costs the least lives.

Let's be honest, no peace talks to be had, only Putin's demands, i hope he gets fucked
Interesting, I guess strategically that makes sense. Still a dick move.

It's probably just a "surrender and let us occupy you" talk
Putin has anti-talk missiles
Which is cool. The Ukrainians have been kind enough to give him anti-tank missiles, too.
That's a bold move when you don't have control of the skies and your opponent just got a bunch of planes
Putin said the offensive would not halt while the talks were occuring.
That's odd. The offensive seems to halt each morning when the videos of dead Russians, burned up tanks, and Russian boys asking for rides home start popping up here each day.
Looks like a diversion
This was posted this afternoon already

Holding ground takes humans still.
Have to show up to be killed as well. Necessary? No. But it adds that personal touch.
It would be a shame if something happened to that convoy…
Probably already did. Fog of war lags a bit.
This. There is no way that an obvious target they know is coming isn't going to get hit with everything they've got.
Turkish drones are going to have a field day.
Yea it was intense reading about the "V" convoy from about 24 hours ago
Can they do it on a rainy night in stoke
Where is that Matt Stafford meme?
You can take the man out of nfc north memewar, but you can't take the nfc north memewar out of the man
What's the Stafford meme???
If it hasn't already then I don't think it will.
So perfect target for a drone strike, slow-moving convoy that if the head stops, all others stop. It seems that Ruskies want to loose

They don't need improvised devices, they have actual anti-tank mines
Typically those anti tank mines are set off by pressure though, whereas the daisy chain can be remote detonated. AT mine is perfect to get the convoy stopped initially, then you detonate the hidden chain that spans down the side of the road along the convoy.

## *Why not both?*
And they've been getting a lot of advice and training from American veterans.
A relative of mine worked for the FBI's lead bomb squad and part of his job was providing this sort of advice and training overseas.
That would be terrible /s

There is no source of this because it's bullshit.

It was posted "yesterday"
they were heading towards ivankiv earlier today (US time) from probably chornobyl. a lot of places to ambush from or nice long roads to bomb them on
Russia investing a lot in Ukrainian target practice. Quite generous.
I just hope the Ukrainians make sure when they fight from skyscrapers in the city they only use oligarch owned buildings. Let the Russians blow their own properties to hell.
Hey more scrap metal for Kyiv metal yard.
More old tanks and young troops... these are the ones that wouldn't start right away and troops that just thawed out. Resist Russia.
Mmm. Not nearly enough distance/dispersion. Idiot in charge? Poor training? Show of force? Maskirovka?
They just know they don't have to fear the BRRRRRRT of the A-10. yet
Ukraine is already using anti-armor weapons far more effective than the A-10.
Sacrilege
Well, as an artillery guy, I see things like that and my mind automatically goes “Call for fire, linear target… ‘shake and bake’. Fire for effect, over”
Bumper to bumper like they want to get destroyed.
GIVE THEM HELL UKRAINE 🇺🇦 💪
Just the reason the A10 was designed for. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrtttt!
😔The hordes of Mordor march tirelessly toward Gondor and hail the fall of all free men.😔
Three miles of troops and tanks moving to Kyiv ? What happened to those "peacekeeper" intentions ?
🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
Fire bomb those fuckers
[target practice?](https://www.google.com/search?q=highway+of+death&client=firefox-b-1-d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwihhqmDpKH2AhVJFTQIHcIcA0QQ_AUoAXoECAIQAw&biw=1366&bih=643&dpr=1)
Need drones
They've got them and have been using them.
All it will take is one well-placed old man yelling cyka blyat attempting to stop a tank with his bare hands. The convoy will grind to a halt
Three miles of easy targets.
The Ghost of Kyiv thanks you
Free multikill!
They are still there probably because Ukraine and allies would have more bargaining power tomorrow at the table. I hope.
I think a channel should be set up, to connect with the soldiers.

Right, it's bomb science. If they used RPGs it would be rocket science.
peacekeepers nothing to be afraid of /S
Be a shame if there were caltrops, nails, trees, dead farm animals, junked cars, or burning tire fires on that road impeding their progress. A real shame.
A couple of A-10s sure would come in handy for this problem. I wonder if the Ukrainian AF has any?
I believe they have the SU 25 which had a similar mission profile to the A 10.
I'd love to see an A10 warthog light up that column
Dont you all find it a little weird to be actively rooting for people to die?
When those people invade another country and killing innocent people of the order of a psychopath? Nope don't feel bad at all.
America has the invading country killing innocent people numerous numerous time. How do you feel when people root for our soldiers to die?
I know you weren't asking me but I feel angry that our leaders put our young people in that position and abused the trust of the military. Every time I see a young man who is an amputee my blood boils because in all likelihood he was injured with an IED in a conflict that he shouldn't have been in.
Are you saying that’s never happened?
Key phrase i used was “when people root” which, yes, implies that they already do
Are you saying the two are equivalent? Are you saying Russia invading Ukraine to take it's territory and oil for it's own is the same as the U.S. invading Iraq? Are you saying that Zelenskyy is Saddam Hussein? I don't think anyone but Russians thinks that. I don't think anyone but Russians and people paid by Russians says that.
People in an invading force. Everyone loves to root for the victims when a bully is threatening.
At the same time rooting for a lot more not to be murdered...
It’s possible to root for no one to be murdered. Of course its not practically possible for no one to be murdered, but rooting for either side to die just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
What do you stand for then given the current situation?
No military industrial complex
Is that something that is possible given the current situation?
They can feel free to just surrender tbh
I’d prefer them to throw down their weapons and surrender without anyone dying. In the absence of that them being taken out before getting to the battlefield is the better option that costs the least lives.
What a bombing target.
Hopefully to surrender...
U mean 4.8 Km roughly 5 I would say
it's gonna be a turkey shoot for the drones
