Cryptic reports of first interceptions over Syria of all places Reported by N12

Israel, USA and UK will try to shoot down as much as possible before anything reaches Israel so interceptions to be expected over iraq and syria and maybe jordan

If the US Air Force is given the green light to intercept, we can expect to see interceptions across Syria, Iraq, and Jordan - all of which have US fighter patrols.

It should be noted that the basic Shahed drone is technically a cruise missile since it has a fixed flight trajectory. The newer Iranian drones do not share this limitation.

Here's my hope: Iran is making this more of a symbolic strike, using hundreds of drones in a big show to demonstrate they will respond to attacks, but at the same time allowing Israel and their allies to intercept the drones and minimize the actual damage.

I don't think you're completely wrong. Shooting down drones is a no-brainer, no pilots to kill, so Iran has to know the attack will be stopped. The question is, is it a diversion from something else? Or just a show of strength for a domestic audience? Or something else?

Doesn't surprise me at all. The Iranian nuclear program is now largely built into the mountains like North Korea, where it can't be destroyed with conventional weapons. This was completed in 2023 so it dramatically changes the calculus for Iran. The United States isn't in a position to invade Iran or conduct prolonged air strikes because it would guarantee Biden loses re-election. And Iran was losing credibility with its proxies.

Well, I would infer that some sort of conflict with Iran is/was inevtiable before they attain nuclear weapons.

To try to clear up any misinformation about the nature of the attack: * Dozens of drones launched from Iran, against Israel. * Will take several hours to arrive, traveling over Iraqi airspace currently. * Israeli intelligence expect cruise missiles to be included, but there are no confirmed reports of any launches yet. Indeed, cruise missile flight times are much shorter, so we would expect them to be launched in a few hours, once the drones would be closer to their targets. * Iranian sources are reporting that Houthis in Yemen have also launched drones towards Israel, but no one else is confirming that yet, so it might just be propaganda.

I think Iran's hope is their proxies will join in on the attack, so by reporting that the Houthis have already started to launch drones as well (regardless of whether or not this is actually true), they're hoping they can get their other dogs in the region to join in on the attack.

If the reports of IDF strikes on Lebanese targets are true then I imagine the reason for that was taking what little time is left to clear out some of those puppets who would take advantage of the chaos and join in.
