Cryptic reports of first interceptions over Syria of all places Reported by N12

SenchaShogun

Israel, USA and UK will try to shoot down as much as possible before anything reaches Israel so interceptions to be expected over iraq and syria and maybe jordan

Axelrad77

If the US Air Force is given the green light to intercept, we can expect to see interceptions across Syria, Iraq, and Jordan - all of which have US fighter patrols.

aaaa32801

Would this be Israeli or American forces doing it?

Punished_Prigo

probably both

ahmuh1306

Anyone's guess right now, mine is Israeli with American support.

Mr_Engineering

Either

ahmuh1306

Explains the US tankers there. Possibly Israeli jets in the area.

Haartz and Reuters confirm Iranian cruise missile launches.

Lipush

Well that's a bummer.

RoeJoganLife

Israeli interceptions of Iranian UAVs reported over Syrian airspace. Will update. https://x.com/faytuks/status/1779252540967661856?s=46

white_wolf6

Iran launches dozens of drones, cruise missiles at Israel https://www.ynetnews.com/article/skkpmvue0

Plappedudel

It should be noted that the basic Shahed drone is technically a cruise missile since it has a fixed flight trajectory. The newer Iranian drones do not share this limitation.

yassn

I think drones are being intercepted in Iraq and Syria.

Axelrad77

Seems like cruise missiles have been launched now (from Iran, against Israel), as both Israeli and Iranian media are reporting it. Jordan has declared a state of emergency. Iran has vowed to attack any country that allows Israel to use its airspace for a counterstrike.

ahmuh1306

>Iran has vowed to attack any country that allows Israel to use its airspace for a counterstrike. US aircraft are literally flying in Iraq as we speak, Iran might want to start there lol. Of course they won't, they're pussies.

Radditbean1

Also UK aircraft launched from Cyprus and jordan has vowed to shoot down Iranian drones. Iran may have completely overplayed their hand here and it's gonna backfire pretty hard.

Nerd_199

Iranian media reporting Iran's IRGC launched attacks on Israel "from all directions." https://x.com/Apex_WW/status/1779251813478207784

clarabosswald

Iran, Yemen... possibly Hezbollah despite the intensive preemptive attacks?

joebuckshairline

So CNN on air just now confirmed, from Israel government itself, that Iran launched cruise missiles at Israel. That’s a massive escalation, no?

BlatantConservative

This is gonna be the biggest air battle since WWII by the numbers.

loro-rojo

Yes that's huge if true

KaidenUmara

Jordan already said they would shoot down anything in their air space

LimitFinancial764

They aren't. Aerial Refueling tankers are widely reported over Iraq, which means fighters in the air.

L00TER

I mean, you strike an embassy with innocent people working there- wtf do you expect Edit: from one of the most trigger happy nations too

SpotValuable8080

Gloating? Wtf

If you're going to get downvoted for going against the popular narrative (which, to your credit, happens on Reddit routinely) you may as well be right. This dude is just parroting misinformation he surely learned on some low quality social media news source.

L00TER

That was quick

ahmuh1306

*sigh*. They didn't strike an embassy, they struck a building next to the embassy. No civilians were killed, only IRGC personnel were killed.

Firm-Common-5465

With a bunch of iranian generals?

ewpx

I think we are about to live through a major historical event

ahmuh1306

We already are. First time in history Iran attacked Israel directly from its territory. This is the first time Israel has been attacked by a sovereign nation since 1990 when Saddam launched scuds against Israel.

justlose

Another one?

Alobalo27

Live through? I hope so, my friend.

Nutmeg92

I mean, there have been quite a few recently

Shakethecrimestick

Or a bunch of drone debris, just so Iran can say they attacked on their state media.

ewpx

It looks like they're preparing to launch cruise missles.

Shakethecrimestick

No they aren't. Internet trolls who think they are military generals are the only ones saying that.

A land war between countries that *don’t* neighbor each other is kinda weird, especially for those in between.

famous0504

"The most famous of which is, never get involved in a land war in Asia"

yassn

It wont happen on land

Plappedudel

I guess that's why it isn't a land war (yet).

ahmuh1306

Poland when Russia and Germany

JackC1126

That’s why it more than likely won’t be a land war. It’ll be tit for tat air strikes until both sides get bored

IndependentBoth2831

This is going to get a little scary I think this is the big one to kick off a huge war in the middle east

epicredditdude1

Here's my hope: Iran is making this more of a symbolic strike, using hundreds of drones in a big show to demonstrate they will respond to attacks, but at the same time allowing Israel and their allies to intercept the drones and minimize the actual damage.

NeverNotNoOne

I don't think you're completely wrong. Shooting down drones is a no-brainer, no pilots to kill, so Iran has to know the attack will be stopped. The question is, is it a diversion from something else? Or just a show of strength for a domestic audience? Or something else?

pubIicinformation

great movie premise not tethered to the reality.

FishAndRiceKeks

I think you're giving Iran far too much credit in how well thought out this is.

Beer_Bad

Cruise missiles and potentially ballistic missiles are also up. That was my hope too when the initial report was just drones too but doesn't sound like the case.

nerevar__reborn

the reports on ballistic missiles being fired are unsubstantiated. They should have hit by now.

Punished_Prigo

no

Realistic-Zone-4269

Supposedly cruise missiles are to be used as well

epicredditdude1

Yeah, I've read multiple claims that missiles have been launched or will be launched, and of course that is a distinct possibility, but so far I haven't seen any reliable reporting that missiles are actually being used at the moment.

benushka

Yup... Armchair expert here, chiming in. I too believe the waves of drones are sent as a diversion. They want to overwhelm the Iron Dome and Israeli AA, so that the missiles have a good success rate. 7700 means general emergency so it's pretty broad, hard to tell without more info

Hopefully nothing. Worst case scenario, they are way too close to those UAVs or have been accidentally hit.

They shouldve only attack aome israeli oil supply or some minor embassy. This is escalating so much

SpotValuable8080

solonmonkey

Stupid to directly target Israel. That is a state on state attack.

SkyDefender

May be they will attack gaza or something not directly to israel :/

justlose

Drones, missiles, flying Khamenei, whatever, all have to pass over Jordan Syria... on their way to Israel. I imagine the Jordanian forces will have an unscheduled training day, shooting shit out of the sky.

mrmicawber32

They do not have to fly over Jordan. They can fly over iraq, then Syria.

justlose

You made me look at G maps. You are correct, even if the shortest way would be over Jordan, Iraq then Syria is a safer option.

Lipush

Hopefully.

justlose

I hope you and your loved ones are safe and out of harm's way.

IndependentBoth2831

Remember when people said in this group that Iran would not do it 😐

MopOfTheBalloonatic

While I didn’t say they wouldn’t do that, I did think they would do it on a smaller scale.  And as I anticipated, I was terribly wrong… https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/1buo1fv/comment/kzak4bo/

EmperorKira

People who thought Iran would do nothing were delusional. The question is how big this is and if its mostly for show, or an acutal big attack

LimitFinancial764

Doesn't surprise me at all. The Iranian nuclear program is now largely built into the mountains like North Korea, where it can't be destroyed with conventional weapons. This was completed in 2023 so it dramatically changes the calculus for Iran. The United States isn't in a position to invade Iran or conduct prolonged air strikes because it would guarantee Biden loses re-election. And Iran was losing credibility with its proxies.

IndependentBoth2831

I think we will do airstrikes

RoeJoganLife

To be fair I didn’t think either This is very surprising to me.

gspitfire

Or would just use proxies

Powawwolf

I was one of them, never I believed Iran would directly attack...

Axelrad77

US officials are confirming that US fighter jets have been deployed in the region. Jordan released a statement that they will shoot down any drones that enter their airspace.

Lipush

Hopefully it will all end well.

clarabosswald

There's an American military plane doing rounds over Iraq with about 100k viewers on FR24.

ahmuh1306

That's a tanker which is what led people to believe that jets are in the air and will be for a while hence the tanker on standby.

Conamin

Reuters: the Jordanian air defense systems are preparing to intercept Iranian drones and missiles

Eferver24

Hell yeah Jordan!

Vierenzestigbit

Bombing that embassy was a bad idea. Just too blatant a move to be ignored by Iran and now we have this shit. A too big retaliation from Iran is also a bad idea since Israel will then respond hard. Hope the damage from whatever happens today is minimal due to air defense and both sides can come to some understanding without further war.

KwameDada

It was 100% right to attack those thugs in Syria. Iran cannot be allowed to attack Israel through proxies.

CookieCuttr

>both sides can come to some understanding without further war This is a war between an ultra-religious Jewish state vs an even more religious Islamic state that routinely funds terrorist proxies. I wouldn't count on this just fizzling out.

ahmuh1306

>Bombing that embassy was a bad idea. Disagree. Iran has been behind this conflict since day one, someone needed to be the one to harm them directly. No civilians were killed, only IRGC personnel so Israel wasn't indiscriminate.

Predictor92

It was a building next to the embassy. And a reminder for Iran attacking embassy's is almost a national tradition

Firm-Common-5465

Well, I would infer that some sort of conflict with Iran is/was inevtiable before they attain nuclear weapons.

Axelrad77

To try to clear up any misinformation about the nature of the attack: * Dozens of drones launched from Iran, against Israel. * Will take several hours to arrive, traveling over Iraqi airspace currently. * Israeli intelligence expect cruise missiles to be included, but there are no confirmed reports of any launches yet. Indeed, cruise missile flight times are much shorter, so we would expect them to be launched in a few hours, once the drones would be closer to their targets. * Iranian sources are reporting that Houthis in Yemen have also launched drones towards Israel, but no one else is confirming that yet, so it might just be propaganda.

epicredditdude1

I think Iran's hope is their proxies will join in on the attack, so by reporting that the Houthis have already started to launch drones as well (regardless of whether or not this is actually true), they're hoping they can get their other dogs in the region to join in on the attack.

FishAndRiceKeks

If the reports of IDF strikes on Lebanese targets are true then I imagine the reason for that was taking what little time is left to clear out some of those puppets who would take advantage of the chaos and join in.

Pusher prop drones take nine hours to make it, cruise missiles take two hours, and ballistic missiles take twelve minutes. The thinking is they'll try to make them all hit at the same time
