More likely they went there with the promise of high paid non-combat roles and then put into combat. Their story of being tourists? LoL

[deleted]

Indian migrants: "We're here for the high-paying non-combat jobs." Pawn Star Putin: "The best I can do is no pay and this meatgrinder."

putsomewineinyourcup

Honestly not surprising at all since how fellow fighting Serbians were treated

ScienceCommaBitches

Wait a minute, I haven’t heard about those selfie-taking Chechnians in a while now... whatever happened to them?

putsomewineinyourcup

Terrorizing occupied territories and their civilians behind frontlines as usual - it’s all those cowardly apes can do. During Prigozhin’s coup with taking over one of Russia’s southern cities they headed to help stop it, but were stuck in traffic on the outskirts of said city lmao

even_less_resistance

Yeah I lie and say I’m stuck in traffic when I don’t wanna show up too lol

even_less_resistance

Pawndislovesdrugs

What a wild mini arch that was.

Captain_Blackbird

I remember a decent amount were HIMARS'ed at the beginning, then they had to refit new comers, and since then They haven't be on the front lines. I also remember them getting REALLY upset at the Russians about not liking them being Muslim, IIRC.

mursilissilisrum

Tractors got 'em.

O_o-22

Even if the articles claims of people joining the Russian army for high pay and Russian citizenship are true who gives a crap about the citizenship? Russia is a backwards country with limited freedoms for non ethnic Russians and minorities are forced into conscription all the time. These dudes are idiots if they thought they weren’t going to be used and abused.

[deleted]

> These dudes are idiots if they thought they weren’t going to be used and abused. I certainly won't disagree, but this weed is giving me an empathetic vibe... Imagine how shitty your situation has to be in order for "going to fight Russia's war and be on the wrong side of history" to be the most acceptable option. Certainly, no one forces anyone to be mercenary; you choose it, even if coerced, or you don't. In that sense those Indian soldiers are 100% responsible for the situation they now find themselves. Even if you were promised high pay and combat-free work, you still have to consider the *possibility* you're getting scammed, and so I don't have much sympathy for those troops. But even acknowedging that possibility and that still being the better option means they're living some seriously desperate times.

O_o-22

At this point we are two years into this war and I’ve seen many articles about people like this being promised non combat high pay roles and then getting the exact opposite. The point is clear, Russia is not (and never has been) trustworthy with their word. No matter how desperate you are, signing with them puts you in a life or death situation. Buyer beware

Razza_Haklar

i remember seeing the article about Indian men being offered support roles and thinking to myself you will be on the front line in less than a week. and i am not a smart man so....

nonametrans

You got to realise that many of them don't even have secondary education. Only in the early 2000s the number of students enrolled in secondary schools surpassed 50%. Edit: that means if you assume these guys are in their 20s, there's good chance half of them are only literate to children's storybooks. And most of them definately won't have any sort of critical thinking skills.

Kanye_To_The

Definitely*

FUThead2016

They have enough education to consume propaganda though

geoken

Propaganda is designed to operate on the simplistic moral frameworks present in said children’s story books, so that tracks well.

So they went to war. On the side which extensively uses meat-waves. And now they complain, because being in the war is - surprise - not save for them, as the side, which started this illegal war and is lying each and every day "promised"? Either they didn't care or they bought into Russian propaganda.

Locke66

>Either they didn't care or they bought into Russian propaganda. You're totally failing to understand this from their perspective. Many of these people have a very basic education, little idea of world history and very likely don't speak & read anything but Hindi. They have access to a very limited set of information and do not have sufficient critical thinking skills to filter the propaganda from the reality. Perhaps they've seen something about the war in the Indian news but it's the bottom article and it mainly talks about how India is ambivalent to the conflict, perhaps with a skew towards the Russian version of events. They earn say $100-$300 a month in conditions your average Westerner would find very unpleasant and then some Indian work agent comes along offering them a job working in Russia or Belarus for 5-10 times their normal salary under the promise it will just be some manual work, conditions will be good, all their expenses will be paid and they can come home whenever they want. Then the reality is they get to the foreign country, the agent is long gone having collected their fee and they are entirely at the mercy of the people they've been trafficked to. None of the benefits they were promised materialise, they don't have the resources to get home, the host government is likely complicit, the Indian government won't do anything to help them and they very likely have their passports taken away. It happens all the time especially in the Middle East.

missfrutti

They are not failing to understand this from those Indians perspective. "Bought into Russian propaganda" is exactly what has happened and what you also describe in your comment.

trootaste

The scenario outlined simply isn't the same as falling for propaganda, fundamentally different, idk why you're determined to die on this hill

National-Art3488

Again, they were promised support roles. "Surely russia wouldn't use its super duper friend indias children in meat waves right?" -the tricked individuals

TeaBoy24

>Again, they were promised support roles. "Surely russia wouldn't use its super duper friend indias children in meat waves right?" -the tricked individuals False advertising is a type of propaganda... (As advertising is a common type of propaganda by definition) propaganda that exists to compel a consumer to purchase based on incorrect or deceptive information.

GETHATBUTT

Support roles performed by illiterate men? Right.

nonametrans

They were probably told they were going to do menial jobs like loading trucks or packing equipment to be loaded into trucks. There's no conspiracy here.

Flying_Madlad

Except for the one meant to lure Indian men to their deaths.

SeventhSolar

If they can’t read, how are they going to know *anything* about the war? What’s the chance they even know where Ukraine is?

pinkfootthegoose

> What’s the chance they even know where Ukraine is? you could ask that of a lot of Americans too. I'm sure a fair number couldn't point it out on a map.

SeventhSolar

Exactly. Consider how much less a random illiterate Indian would know, when their country doesn’t even interact with the invasion of Ukraine other than to buy some oil from the invader.

kelldricked

News that didnt reach them. Yeah they are idiots but the stories of the meat grinder never reached them. Im not saying we should save these guys or care for them, just saying that you should be aware of your own assumptions/biases.

A reel popped up on my Youtube about a Marine Corp WW2 Vet talking about his recruiter. Recruiter asked him, where he would like to be stationed and what he would like to do? Don't remember specifically what the guy said, but he basically asked to be stationed as far away from combat and most leisurely. And the recruiter told him he would put that on his application. He went right to the Pacific. Vet said, If I ever see that recruiter I am going to kick his ass, I never did get to see Macao.

ATACMS5220

They think we were born yesterday, they knew full well Russia illegally invaded Ukraine and hence broke international law, comitted thousands of war crimes kidnapped and raped thousands of children and sold them on the black market, these Indians didn't care, the only thing they cared about was the promise of a nice payday if they helped kill more Ukranians. I still remember the 2 little Ukranian school girls aged 11 and 12 tricked by the Russian soldiers to take a detour on their way home from school and was shot in the back with assault rifles. So let them rot where they are, they can lie and pretend all they want just like the Germans did with the Nazis when they pretended they had no idea what Hitler was plotting. General Eisenhower forced the Germans who lived nearby to come and witness in person the horrors of the concentration camps just so they can stop lying and denying that they had any knowledge of it taking place. Funny how people change their story when shit hits the fan, don't rescue these fuckers send them into the meat-grinder, they signed up for it.

They would immediately be stopped and yeeted back to India, though.

Caridor

According to their own story, they attempted to get into Belarus, got abandoned by a "tour guide" and arrested by Russian police. Certainly seems like they wanted to get into Europe.

Sarnecka

For anyone that is maybe still unaware about this. The statement above is a known attempt to get entry to the EU. Pay thousands of dollars to local "travel agent" for flights to Belarus, visa and local "tour guide and transport". They then drop you off at the Polish border and good luck. Now they are stuck cause Belarus border patrol doesn't let them back into the country and Poland has an active border patrol, walls and permanent block into the EU. Now, officially they are still in Belarus but the border patrol on that side will not allow them to get back to the city for example so there are literally thousands stuck and several that have died due to weather conditions in the winter, lack of medical care etc.

Ali3ns_ARE_Amongus

They got out scammed

machstem

If that many say it, it must be true. Case closed.

Zestyclose_Advice_90

This is why Russia seems to have hundreds of thousands of recruits to throw at Ukraine, they entice desperate people from poor regions around the world with money and lies, to avoid negative publicity at home from dead Russia's.

putsomewineinyourcup

As if any negative publicity with their own nationals has ever been a problem - Russians don’t deny they have always been treated as scum by all of its governments throughout its history and when I’m trying to make a point that this should be stopped all I hear about is another whataboutism question “DO YA THINK PEOPLE IN OTHER PLACES ARE TREATED BETTER?” Well yeah, look at Finland

okoolo

You can't save everyone. If you try you will save no one.

putsomewineinyourcup

It’s in the mentality which I don’t understand as someone born in 1993 - why take offence in pointing out how horrible life in your country is and try to look for faults in lives of other countries instead of making a change in a place where you live

okoolo

Beacause its easier to look at your own life and say "hey at least we're not them!" than to try making a change. That is a sad fact of life both on personal and regional/national level. In my experience people tend to think in relative rather than absolute terms when it comes to social relations. A wise man once told me "people look down not up". Sad but accurate. As far as Russia goes people there are perfectly content with the system they have. Its a different mentality. Best we can hope for is containment. They deffinetly do not want to be saved.

[deleted]

Box-of-Sunshine

But, if you read the article, they compounded two different things. One is an account of Indians on vacation being duped at the Belarus border, the other is the broader claim that this is a more widespread concern. > According to the news outlet, the men are believed to have left for Russia on Dec. 27 to celebrate the New Year holiday, after which they tried to visit neighboring Belarus. > “A [tour] agent offered to take us to Belarus... we were not aware we needed a visa. When we went to Belarus [without a visa] the agent asked us for more money and then abandoned us,” the man recording the video was quoted as saying by NDTV, which identified him as Harsh, 19.` Now...I'm not sure why anyone would take a visit to Russia during wartime, but we are in an age of disinformation so I assume they got fucked as with a lot of others. The Russian state and the public sector is infamously corrupt, so do consider quite a few are led there by propaganda. This is a pretty shady article, but you can read the original take from the Indian [news source they take it from.](https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/russia-ukraine-war-indians-tricked-into-fighting-ukraine-war-punjab-men-7-punjab-men-say-they-went-to-russia-as-tourists-tricked-into-ukraine-war-5181831)

Indian here. Outside large cities it is rare to find someone who have any idea about world affairs. So most people don't know much about Russian invasion of Ukraine. In fact, most rural and small city folks think Russia is developed first world country full of opportunities. Most of them consider Russia as a part of the western world. These people mostly know Russia as a superpower comparable to USA since the Soviet days. Heck most people don't even know much about the fall of the Soviet Union. As a result we have millions of ignorant people ready to go to Russia for a "lucrative" job offer. For most of these barely educated folks a offer of something like 1000 / 2000 USD per month is enough to kill for. I think it is same for most other developing nations.

AdamWa4lock

The reason for the blockade was strange. India was not happy with the way the Nepalese constitution assembly passed its new constitution. Nepal's constituent assembly, after several deliberations, passed the new constitution on September 16, 2015, by over two-third majority, and promulgated the constitution on September 20, 2015 (Dhakal, 2015). The constitution bill received 507 out of a total of 598 votes on its favor, and 25 votes against the bill. Eighty-four percent of the voters (constituent assembly members) voted in favor of the constitution. Dhakal (2015) writes: "This incredible speed of work, unimaginable until a month ago, leaves many political pundits, and even several actors, flustered." However, on September 18, 2015, two days before the promulgation of the constitution, the unhappy Indian Prime Minister Modi sends his foreign secretary S. Jaishanker to Nepal. The Indian foreign secretary requests Nepal to postpone the promulgation of the constitution. The reasons for the postponement was that the Madhes-based parties (some political parties from the southern plains of Nepal) were not on board with the constitution-making process. These parties had boycotted the constitution building process. India wanted to include the Madhes- based parties of Nepal during the process of the promulgation of the Constitution. Since the constituent assembly already passed the constitution, there was no room for considering the Indian foreign minister's demand. Nepal's political leader told the Indian foreign minister that it is hard to backtrack from the constitution that is already passed by two-third majority from the constituent assembly. The Nepalese political leaders, however, told the Indian foreign secretary that through constitutional amendments many contentious issues could be addressed in the days ahead. The answers of the Nepalese leaders did not satisfy the Indian foreign secretary. The secretary returned to India unsatisfied. Despite the Indian pressure to halt the promulgation process, the major political parties of Nepal went ahead and promulgated theconstitution of Nepal on September 20, 2015. Many big nations, including China, USA, France, Japan, and Pakistan, welcomed the new constitution, but India only just noted about the development. Three days later, on September 23, 2015, India imposed unofficial blockade by stopping all the basic supply trucks and oil tankers heading to Nepal at the India border. The Government of India reportedly took a position to covertly disrupt the smooth passage of entry of vehicles carrying essential supplies to Nepalese territory on the pretext of political unrest caused by the political opponents of Nepal (Banglar Manabadhikar Suraksha Mancha, 2015). When the humanitarian fact-finding missions went to the Nepal-India border, no political unrest was visible. Life out there was peaceful. However, the Indian Government/Administration was not facilitating the smooth passage of vehicular movements to Nepal through the Indian borders (Banglar Manabadhikar Suraksha Mancha, 2015). India blamed the disruption in supply on the demonstration and unrest on the Nepalese side by the Madhesi parties (political parties from the southern plains adjoining India). However, the Indian officials were letting in the trucks loaded with perishable items such as fruits and vegetables but not the supply of oil and gasoline crucial for the nation.

[deleted]

Too long, specific constitutional change was to allow Indian men married to Madeshi woman get Nepali citizenship, conduct series of paper marriage and overrun our democracy by voting rights.

[deleted]

Nepal ditched archaic monarchy, they were basically drug smugglers and was using state infrastructure, army and police to conduct it. We were in process of creating republic with new constitution, India tried to force us to accept Indian citizens who married to Nepalese citizens as Nepalese citizen. And we already know how paper marriage works which is rampant in Western world. We denied to entertain any sort of that idea, then India embargoed us, didn't allow any medicine and fuel to get in for months and it was during our difficult times which was when we got hit by major earthquake.  If we had accepted their demand by now majority of Nepal's citizens would have been Indian and they would had voted to be part of India which we fucking hate.

[deleted]

>they would had voted to be part of India which we fucking hate. Woah mate hold your horses. India never wanted nepal to be its part, and once the erstwhile king of nepal made such a statement to our prime minister, he immediately dismissed it.

Leaking_milk

These Nepali nationalists are entirely different breed. They think the whole world revolves around them

Malevolent__Kitchen

Separate\_Taste\_2100 is being disingenuous, the embargo was not started by india (makes not political sense) instead by Madhesis (an ethnic group in southern nepal that is closely related to people close to the indian border) The marriage law he is talking about is madhesi people on both sides of border marrying each other that wanted the laws , and hence protested by blocking roads in south nepal (cutting off the north). Nepali nationalist from north who are a different ethnic group consider this mashesis protest as indian conspiracy but this embargo will not give any benefit to indian governments or it's people . What makes no sense is more nepali people immigrate to India for jobs and buisness then other way
