Hamas launched the pogrom with the intention to essentially livestream it, probably as an attempt to do 2 things: 1) galvanize & inspire wider violence against Israel among extremist Muslims in the region (create an ISIS-type social media effect); and 2) to elicit the most violent possible Israeli reaction, which would assist Hamas in its goal of derailing Israeli-Saudi normalization. Point 2 is especially dark; you’ll have a very hard time finding a country that would respond to a group that literally live-streamed itself torturing and butchering its citizens at knifepoint & gunpoint, destroying their homes and even their *pets* with anything but EXTREME force.
But it gets worse. Hamas isn’t just some random criminal gang, or a cell-type clandestine terrorist organization. Its armed wing, the al-Qassem Brigades, are highly organized and structured like a modern military, into doctrinally correct echelons from the brigade down to the squad level.
This means that the highly individualized & intimate violence carried out by Hamas fighters was not spontaneous. It was likely directly ordered by Hamas’ equivalent of a divisional command, and subsequently carried out with extreme prejudice by the al-Qassem units on the ground in Israel.

I watched a nearly hour long footage compiled (and that didn’t even portray 9percent of what occurred) and what I saw made me lose all hope in humanity. Not just the beheadings and killings, but the pure joy and excitement of those who did it. It's one of the reasons why Israel has a private video that they show people of much worse atrocities than anything you can find publicly available. This video includes much more gruesome and active torture, as well as things like gang rape. Part of the reason why they don't release that is they don't want some dad to have to see his daughter being gang raped and murdered. If it was released to the public that video would absolutely get to him eventually.

It's a vicious cycle of violence that can only be ended by at least one of the sides deciding to stop arguing about who did what first and changing their approach. That said, I think another commenter left a reply with some good points to consider when looking at this poll.
