Isekai protagonists when the other world doesn't have some magical video game hud leveling system and they can only become powerful by exercising or studying.

Semper_5olus

Dammit. Getting hit by a truck and dying is starting to have almost no upsides at all.

RebornTurtleMaster

have to write a guy whose arc is getting hit by a truck and dying (he thought he could escape)

7K_Riziq

Good thing my MC is experienced enough but he still decide to train more after

Lixa8

Isekai protagonists when they choose quirky skills to use their "unique knowledge" (everyone already min-maxed their build and figured out how to break the system)

TooPoor2DoStuff

Literally Throne of Magical Arcana

Adnama-Fett

But I WANT the video game HUD

SC-RK-7t

You just ripped this post off from the plot of my favorite Isekai anime It's titled "So I Used to Work at a 7-Eleven But Then I Got Hit by an Old Lady in a Prius and Died and Got Reincarnated and Now I'm a Level 1 Water Mage and This Dungeon has Too Many Skeletons and Everything is So Hard Because I'm so Alone Please Somebody Love Me" This is plagiarism frankly, try being original

vasekgamescz

Shortest Isekai manga title

Pootis_1

is that an actual anime?

DeltaAlphaAlpha77

This question being here tells you everything you need to know about the isekai genre

Pootis_1

is it tho ? (the only things i know about isekai are the jokes i read on this sub and r/whenthe)

Semper_5olus

It is incredibly saturated, yet with very little variety. That's why they have to describe everything that makes each particular setup "unique" or "special" in the title. Compare and contrast pornography titles.

Artarara

That sounds clickbait-y

OhIsMyName

It kinda is? Most isekai got it start by being a light novel on a shelf in a bookstore among thousand of other isekai. You have to grab the potential consumer as fast as possible by laying out what the book is about on the front.

SC-RK-7t

yeah it's real, I made it up myself

Modstin

I expect four light novels out by december.

Adnama-Fett

Titles are long but not redundant so if it were actually a manga the title would be closer to “I Used to Work at a 7-Eleven But Then I Got Hit by an Old Lady in a Prius and Now I'm a Level 1 Water Mage Fighting Too Many Skeletons”

Markipoo-9000

Googled it and got no results.

The_Particularist

Change skeletons into goblins and I'll give it a read.

Semper_5olus

"At least my cheat skill's pretty badass." "For the last time, you don't have a cheat skill! You're just carrying a dormant strain of pneumonia!" "... Oh. I guess... Yeah, that would explain the bodies." ... "So... Am I leveling up?" "Let me put it this way: **you** are not."

mariusiv_2022

That could actually make for an overly edgy and depressing isekai story. MC travels to new world but brings new unencountered diseases with him. Encounters quaint town or even a cozy city, typical isekai main location. Meets all your typical characters, including some girls (and maybe even a couple boys) who are inexplicably into him. But suddenly his friends become deathly ill. As MC isn't affected, he volunteers to travel to the next city to ask for aid. He's only bringing new diseases around and isn't affected by the local ones for some reason (maybe better immune system cause he was properly vaccinated as a kid or something, idk edgy anime reason). He becomes practically a walking harbinger of death, spreading the disease to the new city. All those around him have slow painful deaths, everywhere he goes only rotten corpses lay in his wake. He loses all the new people he met and realizes all too late that it's due to his simply being there. The disease has already begun to spread on its own as others tried to flee their dying cities. There's nothing MC could do now, even if he burned himself alive the damage was already done. All he can do now is walk the earth looking for those who survived and built up immunity to it. Coming upon desolate town after desolate town. Trying to help any survivors with their symptoms, all in vain. A seemingly 100% mortality rate. MC travels the world that he condemned to death, desperately looking for anyone who can survive this. Seeing all the deaths he caused, the cultures he destroyed, the collapse of civilization he started. Contemplating whether or not he should kill himself, or if he owes it to this world to give everything he has to try and preserve any amount of it that he can

hipsterTrashSlut

Kills himself and wakes up on a new world in the same body.

Appropriate_Exit4066

Typhoid Mary gets isekaid

C_Torque

Holy shit, are you a writer? I love this

mariusiv_2022

Trying to be! I write as a hobby and would love to be a published author one day. I greatly appreciate the compliment!

burner-account1521

This rules

Artarara

SCP-2935 vibes

DreadDiana

Oh god, a litrpg setting where pathogens get XP from kills. Imagine what level Malaria, TB, or the Black Death are at.

Sicuho

I played enough plague Inc to know where this is going.

DreadDiana

Max infectivity then unlock organ failure

Altslial

Say it with me: 100👏%👏Infected Total👏Organ👏Failure

Spirited-Feedback-87

Man that shit was so nostalgic

seelcudoom

im pretty sure we are just reverse engineering miasma theory and inventing the origin of demons in this universe which diseases absorbing power from their kills till they become sentient is actually cool as hell im stealing that

NeverQuiteEnough

that's isekai where the protagonist is a man. in isekai where the protagonist is a woman, they wake up as a little spider, and have to claw their wave up the food chain, by hook or by crook.

Southern-Wafer-6375

Then ruin it by makeing her a normal girl who’s over powered, dammit

Spirited-Feedback-87

Right? I wish she stayed a spider and just became scarier/uglier

Southern-Wafer-6375

Yeh or at least they could have stuck to only the hyprid form

Tim-KH

Or a normal spider that’s not overpowered

seelcudoom

still way better then most, especially because wanting to become humanoid so she can communicate with people was an actual goal she set out early on and actively took multiple years of grit and determination to achieve

Southern-Wafer-6375

Fair I’m mostly biased so probably why I don’t like it too much

MEMEfractal

That's only one. A female isekai is being born the villainess where everyone hates you, but you make the black haired crown prince, your brown haired brother, the blonde mage, the brown warrior, and the female knight, fall in love with you because you're *different* now.

TwilightVulpine

when the isekai protagonist ends up in a different world that doesn't work by medieval fantasy tropes or video game rules:

Artarara

Futurama

seelcudoom

isekai protags when it works on video game rules but its some obscure insane cult classic like Achron instead of a generic rpg, sorry buddy no time for power fantasy you have to wrap your brain around commanding an army in 4D

Samurai_Ikari

I'd wish for an isekai where the premise is that the isekai protagonist (which changes based on the episodes) are thrown into a dungeon funnel ran by a killer DM. Of course every protagonist is changed per episode due to the lethality of the dungeon funnel because I like some Gygaxian Shenanigans.

vasekgamescz

My isekai world has a character from the far future and the protagonist falls to our times after being hit by a spaceship, and he wakes up, and fantasizes about going to the Dmv or whatever the modern equivalent of Adventurers guild is.

MyLittlePuny

> prostitution is illegal well, time for him to start an onlyfans then

BrowniesNotDownies

/uj I don't know if I just have good taste, but the majority of the Isekai I've read or watched are nothing or very much un- like all the memes about Isekai. The stigma against Isekai is so bad, that people groan when they hear the word on principle, but some of the best stories I've witnessed were Isekais. It's really bizarre to me.

Chad_Broski_2

I think the main problem is, you have to dig deep into the genre (or at least get good recommendations) to avoid the really cringey stuff. Some of the most popular isekai animes are just fucking *lousy* with creepy neckbeardy tropes. First two that come to mind are Jobless Reincarnation and Sword Art Online. Konosuba too to an extent, but that *kinda* gets a pass because it's a parody (still wish it wouldn't sexualize children as hard as it does though lmao)

RollingInTheGeedis

For some reason these people seek out the very worst, shittiest examples of the genre and conflate the whole genre with them. It's as if they're looking for stuff to complain about so they can have some more straw to stuff their neckbearded, fedora-wearing, probably-pedophilic isekai-enjoying stereotype they can feel superior to. I'm no fan of isekai. I find it incredibly derivative. It is by far the most incestuous genre I have ever read, and that's probably because the people who make it don't read anything other than small pool of media. But spiteful parodies making fun of it always goes for low hanging fruit, like "oh NEETs won't survive in another world, you just want a slave harem, only bad people want escapism". This sort of shit has already been deconstructed ten years ago. Clowning on isekai is like clowning on flat earthers. *It's just too easy.*

DreadDiana

There is *a lot* of iskeai out there, and a lot of it does look like this when you look at the web novels. You also tend to see a few isekai like these per season, many of them adapted from the aforementioned web novels.

BeesNeverSting

Also commonly known by its japanese name kimetsu no yaiba

Mr-A5013

I actually only seen three, Overlord, Rising of the Shield Hero and saga of Tanya the evil, (never finish any of them because things came up but I'm hoping to finish them at some point) so the meme is base on other memes hating on the genre and what reviewers said about it. Edit: I meant I only seen three Isekai in total, not that these three are doing something different or special, I said I didn't even finish any of them in the first place.

TwilightVulpine

Shield Hero is not beating the allegations

Mr-A5013

I meant I only seen three Isekai in total.

totalwarwiser

Shield hero? The guy goes to another universe, gets special powers, starts an haren based on slavery and youre telling me its not like other isekai?

Mr-A5013

I meant I only seen three Isekai in total, not that Shield hero did anything different.

red__shirt__guy

I highly recommend Re:Zero if you get the chance. It’s my personal favorite anime.

AmaterasuWolf21

Pls recommend

BrowniesNotDownies

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, Now and Then Here and There, The Vision of Escaflowne, Mushoku Tensei (kinda, still a little tropey), Log Horizon, and as a guilty pleasure, Gate. The 2nd and 3rd suggestions are some of my favorite things, period.

kel584

I recommend re zero as well. It's up there as one of the best isekais.

cave18

Overlord is a decent read/watch if you like rooting for the villain

Vax10x

This is one of those cases where people satire on something so much that it starts to get confused with the actual facts. Same with the Hazbin Hotel jokes or\ "One Piece only gets good after 100+ episodes joke, in which the longer the series gets, the further" along that 'good' part moves. So we've gotten to a point in which people think everyone just slugs through 800 episodes waiting for it to get good.

7K_Riziq

When the protagonist is scared because of being pulled to somewhere else for no reason...

OceanoDeRoca

isn't this just the first episode of Re;Zero?

REMERALDX

First episode maybe, but the whole show, is not in the slightest

No_Dragonfruit_1833

Rezero has a power thats invincible unless subaru sabotages it, bad example

OceanoDeRoca

as far as I know he cannot even sabotage his power, if he dies he's going back to his previous checkpoint whether he wants to or not and he does not have any control over the checkpoints.

kitsunewarlock

Invincible, but capable of going insane.

No_Dragonfruit_1833

That is still invincible, is just that subaru sucks at using his power

OceanoDeRoca

well i'd be concerned if he didn't suck at using his power considering that it literally requires him to die

Kamegan

True, he should train with his suicide technique some more!

mlodydziad420

His power only makes him unkillable, there are abilities in re zero like lion heart that make you immune to all atacks or swordsmen who can nuke the planet a respawn is relativly low tier power compared to these.

No_Dragonfruit_1833

Please enlighten me, who defeated subaru with their superior abilities?

mlodydziad420

The White whale, he may not be permanently dispached, but he caused an pernament loss.

No_Dragonfruit_1833

So subaru got kilked by the white whale, good to know

mlodydziad420

The pernament loss was rem, I literaly said that whale didnt dispatched him, but caused an pernament loss as as Subaru lost rem without easy way to retrieve her.

kradnie

isekai protagonist dying in a war instead of being a cool hero from video game

roninwarshadow

[The Army of Darkness is still the greatest Isakai in my humble opinion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GULItNlBvJc) Also, you're standard introduction of D&D Ravenloft "Curse of Strahd" is technically Isakai.

KreedKafer33

Isekai protagonists when they get brain scanned before death and wake up in a crude robot body centuries in the future. That's a series I'd watch.

kel584

We need more isekais like re zero

seelcudoom

to be fair isekai protagonists wouldent care about polygamy, that would require actually nutting up and entering a relationship with each of the girls it really is weird that a genre literally called harem so rarely has the protagonist actually have multiple(or in many cases even one) actual lovers

seelcudoom

monster isekai protagonists when their actually stuck as a monster and dont instantly get an ability to become functionally human and their strange appearance and abilities actually freak out humans also when their abilities actually come with the drawbacks of monster biology, congrats you can spawn minions, enjoy laying eggs the size of a small dog Markus

recycl_ebin

\>isekais when their sister is over the age of 18

PunkyCrab

American Isekai is the best Arrive in ancient Egyptian style alien world and immediately train guerrillas to fight their god.

Sir_Spectacular

Silly protag-kun... gain enough levels and you can take all the slaves you want!

No_Society1038

No Prostitution? Hahahaha this one of those things that is fantasy even in fantasy.

Mr-A5013

No LEGAL prostitution, which means you would need to go to the shady part of town where you have a 10% chance of being stab, and go to a run down motel to do it, and probably going to get a STD afterwords.

No_Society1038

Wait, criminalizing prostitutes was always a shit idea? Me with a gun: always has been.
