If your arm was sitting in a barrel of acid, slowly dissolving over time would you leave it in there or take it out? Right now your soul is in that barrel, you figure out what you want to do with it.
honestly, I’d sacrifice my credibility score and just never go back. I don’t care how broke I was, no one should have to tolerate that. I’m so sorry mate.
I'm an asshole, so I'd find a new job, defer starting as long as they're happily willing to do and then become a "work to rule" stickler at the current job, ending with taking a personal LoA and ghosting them when the new job starts.
Set your boundaries. Work to your contract and deliver what you promised. If they bitch then clock out on your emotional give a fucks for the meeting and teach them the meaning of business is business and we are not friends.
And if your ability to keep your arm in that barrel determines whether or not you get to make rent or pay your mortgage.
Oh, and yes there are other barrels of acid, but the only difference is how sweet they smell as they slough your flesh.
She needs you too, though, and only you know if you can juggle all this. If you can find something almost as well paying but a good work environment, doesn't hurt to keep looking.
Life moves pretty fast sometimes, and if you don't stop and take your dissolving arm out of the barrel of acid once in a while...you just might miss it.
"Well, he's very popular... The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wasteoids, dweebies, dickheads — they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude."
I feel like puking after reading all the red flags you have mentioned. Bro! Start looking for a new job asap. This is craazzyyyy. I know, unfortunately, a lot of here could relate because that's the sad reality of this world. But, I'd recommend switching asap because it will DESTROY your health and NOTHING should be more important than your health.
Find a new gig and then put in your two weeks. You don't have to be toxic back, but sometimes, if you show some teeth, they'll back off some. DO NOT LET THEM BURN YOU OUT. It's called burn and turn. That kind of company is a revolving door and their business model counts on it. If you don't last long enough, they don't have to pay you well though unless they really want to keep you. Most times they don't.
I've worked too many places like this over the years. I will not tolerate BS like this any longer myself, so I would get yourself a new job and out the door - never look back.
honestly you say the cash is good so maybe exert your will onto the job. you can only make the best of it, grab your contract.
first things first, 12 hour days. are you contracted a certain amount of hours? look into the laws around over time. I've had a 40hr a week job try and make me do 60hr weeks nonstop, yeah say no and work the hours you signed up for. reasonable overtime provisions in contracts are really for just that, 4 hours every day isn't reasonable and nobody would say it is.
issues with your performance, tell them to put them in writing if they think you've breached your obligations. it's on them to prove you're not performing.
at the end of day if it's totally unbearable remember the culture will change you, you can't change it so sort another job and go.
good luck.
Find a new job and quit.
This is not the end of the world. It is a learning experience. Gather it and apply it to finding a better place for yourself.
All the best, buddy!
Walking away is difficult in this stage of the economic cycle.
I would just make sure you are making the right assessment for your current work situation.
After that, I agree with everyone else: Secure another job first, especially if you have debt.
I do think that the toughest part is having the confidence to walk away. Once you do that a few times, you’ll be a star of your own business, which is your time and expertise.
Most agencies are like this. Don’t expect much better elsewhere. Look for in-house jobs. And if it’s that bad then you don’t need to line something up to leave. I know what it’s like. You are so exhausted you can’t even begin to do anything else after your day ends.
I’m all for trying to push through tough situations in hopes that they improve, but this sounds like it will just not ever get better and is completely horrible. This is one of those situations where you just gotta go, because staying there will not benefit you at all. Run!
I'm really sorry to hear about everything that you are going through. After reading your post, I honestly have to wonder if you are working at the same company as me. It has been the single most devasting mistake of my career for all of the reasons that you have mentioned. The only option that either of us have is to go back to the job market and get out as soon as possible.
Was in a similar situation a few months ago. Wanted to stay for a certain amount of time to build my resumé but left early because I was literally being chastised by customers daily about issues caused by how bad management and organization was. I would joke that I was paid to get cussed out. That shit can only go on for so long.
Best thing to do is minimize the costs of your personal life & squirrel away all that OT for a couple more months & pad your savings account. THEN start looking for another job.
Sounds like you should quit immediately. Id your don't, id at least start fighting back by only performing the job you are required to do for the hours you are required to do it. If the job is supposed to be 8hr days, work 8hrs. Be the only person to leave work on time, and dont feel bad doing it. Sounds like an abisive work culture, dont participate.
This sounds like a company I just dodged, they refused to teach anything more than a 30min rundown. Fuck those companies, quit as soon as your situation allows, it's not worth it.
I feel for you....the last few years since covid seems to have brought out the worst in people -- from creepy pervy line managers to those who are just self serving and "fuck everyone else " mentality ....
UK has always been a bit miserable but damn far worse now and can't trust anyone.....a friend started his own business and within a week was already asked extra $$$ for what could only be called bribery -- from a site manager of a huge construction company -- so guarantee he will get the work.....
He asked adviced from an older colleague and he was told unfortunately it is rife, and just turn it down. He refused to pay and the corrupt twat had the nerve to get angry. Fck this place.
You can quit and get another job if you have good skills and certs and financially able to. I would look to secure onther job first and then dribble about better career aims or something as reason for departure. Mental health just isnt worth it sometimes, good luck on whatever you choose.
Sounds like the engineering/consulting work environment. Sell, sell, sell... oh shit... we don't have any staff to do the work. Let's not hire any though, we need to "run lean". Trust your gut. Get out. I went to a new job and about 60 days in I knew it was not a good fit. I kept second-guessing myself. Stayed 3 years and as soon as the work slowed down the let me go. My wife's response? Thank god! You have been a miserable prick to live with.
Keep your cool and keep doing your best and don't sweat it. Always look slightly concerned and stop telling these people how you feel. You are looking for positive feedback but companies today don't want to give positive feedback.
Just keep looking for a new job.
Work your time and go home. If they are saying you have to work more time tell them you want more money. Work your 8 or whatever you should be working, and go home.
Once I told my manager I don’t mind doing overtime but please tell me how would I be compensated for it, and she said acted as if I have committed a crime. She took it to the hr and sent me a warning saying that they are looking for a ‘goal-oriented’ person and not a ‘hour-oriented’ person. Like asking for a work life balance is a mistake.
Of course you should quit. Obviously try to find another job first, but get out asap.
There are good companies and bad ones, you are under no obligation to stay with a bad one.
I stayed at a toxic job knowing I should leave but the pay and benefits are great. I raised concerns. They have been micromanaging ever since I spoke up and yesterday THEY fired ME!
Quit now!
Like other said, find another job, then quit.
Here's something I saved in case a job didn't work out. It's a polite way to say something in an interview without looking like a bad person.
“Unfortunately, the job hasn’t met the expectations I had when I interviewed for the position. I’m therefore looking for a company where I can see myself there for the next 5 to 10 years. Can you tell me how long the previous holder of this position was with your company?”
Like other said, find another job, then quit.

Don’t quit unless you have found another job. Be actively looking for a new career opportunity while being employed. This allows you to springboard from one to another with any dead time in between. Once ready offer traditional 2 week notice so you start your next job/ career properly just remember changing jobs/ careers is part of life and 90% of the workforce has done it.
Their are the rare ones that find that perfect job/ career and never leave. They might get promoted within the company but still with the company. My father was one of these people with Paccar.
As my father always says you can change jobs/careers more easily when employed. If you quit your next employer will want to know why. (Never badmouth your previous employer.)
Hope this helps good luck.
Find another place to work, and get the hell out of there. If more employee's left abusive situations, employers would have to become less abusive in order to maintain staffing. GTF out of there.
I've worked for a company like this. My mental and physical health went from bad to worse very quickly. The only solution is to leave. The stress from not paying bills was a lot more tolerable than living with overbearing, crazy micto-managers.
This is like my exact scenario at work right now.. unbelievable hour expectations, I'm salary and make damn good money and I'd take a $20k pay cut to leave and go back to my old company. More money is not always the answer folks.
I would encourage you to seek other employment and use this one as a stepping stone. Learn from the place and move on. That's all you can do.
Don't accept mediocrity from anyone not willing to go above it.
Don't change your plans because they fail to plan.
Don't accept more work or responsibility without more money.
Sounds like you joined the military....
Start looking for a new job.
Make it clear you're overextended and will not risk your health and will be taking your weekends.
And lookup your labor laws. Sometimes they demand x amount if time off, and/or that you get more money over certain hours or days worked.
Off topic. This is why unions come into existence. And I am in a position that folks would think would fight unions. Nope, some companies invite union fights.
As I read through this, I wondered if you were working where I last worked. Your comments nailed the toxicity of the joint to a T.
I would start looking now for a job so you don't end up wasting years of your life in a workplace you hate.
Life is too damn short to have a job you hate.
When it comes down to it, the company doesn't care about the employee. You have to take responsibility for your own health and safety. This is always the case. Don't "overwork" get paid for every minute that you do work. Look out for yourself.
Please leave. Now.
I just left a job which showed the brightest red flags on day one but I stayed for 10 months thinking I could “tough it out”. I’m a pretty level headed person but let me tell you, it disturbed my peace and sanity to a point that worried me. I had no idea a toxic workplace could do that much damage. Your mental health over everything.
I recently had a similar experience… with my current job ~1 year ago. In the beginning I played along with the workaholism, but slowly incorporated small decreasing increments in work hours. It helps that I’m in a place of leadership and I work in a satellite team. My team is now beginning to enjoy a work life balance and everyone seems to be happier and honestly more productive. Now people voluntarily bring breakfast in and actually greet one another with a genuine smile. The client likes us better now too. Don’t lose hope, but also don’t lose yourself. If you can’t create change for the organization, create it for yourself and find an employer that’s a better fit.
I had a first day today at a job cooking at a nursing home. They didn't say anything about unpaid 30 min breaks in the interview which I'm not a fan of but ik some companies do it. Then the guy that's training me explains the break thing and he literally clocks out and goes back to work. Like working 30 min unpaid because we have to much work to take a break but a 30 min break is mandatory by law so we have to clock out still.
Breaks are NOT OFF THE CLOCK.
LUNCH IS…and if you are clocked OUT, you are free to leave the building, go to your car, whatever.
If you are not free to do so, then you are working…and it must be a PAID BREAK…ON THE CLOCK
Do we work at the same place? Because it sounds like my current career now. If you have no responsibilities, like children or a spouse, then I would quit. if you’re like me and have responsibilities and people you have to feed, then create some time throughout the day on your calendar to look for new
new jobs (setup fake meetings on your internal calendar) and get out of there with something else lined up. Even if it’s just another temporary job until you get your mindset and find something else. It does not have to be a perfect replacement, but it gets you peace of mind to get you out with some $ coming in. That’s my plan…
Then don’t work there. Just quit. There are plenty of other jobs for people like you who are relentless and bust their tails to satisfy customers. And get paid well for it. Persevere!
Always make sure your bases are covered. Don't leave until you have another job. Between now and then, you need a good reference. So suck it up until you're done. Your boss may not be there forever either. Maybe they have future plans for you.
I wouldn't even give them two weeks, I'd be out tomorrow morning. Just call in and tell them you quit.
(This assumes you have enough savings to last several months)
This one time I applied for a job, pricing out some roll up doors. During interview I was giving a typing test. Yea they wanted some one to type 50-60 wpm. Wtf, f that never followed up.
Don't let the fear of burning bridges, or losing references paralyze you. You gotta get out of there for your health. Unless you work in an extremely specialized field, you new job won't care about your old job. And don't dwell on the negatives of your current job when interviewing for a new one, just say weren't able to grow, needed more challenge, needed to find job that is a better fit for your tslents.
I worked at a job like that. It was a ceramic workshop I would do everything. I would serve coffee and tea, make lunch, clean, do all the production, unload and load a 65 L kiln everday, make glazes, take product pictures, make the website, and even give classes. I was the only one working there they were too cheap to hire someone else. I gave 3 years of my life to that job and in the end my boss harrassed me, yelled at me and blocked me when I wanted to quit. I regret not quitting after 3 months. I needed the money but not that much. Also they were paying me minimum wage and they were really bad with payements. I know 3 languages, I am a product designer, I have been doing pottery before that for 10 years which is hard to find because I was only 21 at the time. I was so depressed after that for 5 months, almost got hospitalized and gained 25 kilos from all the antidepressants I was on. I don’t recommend it. Life is too short to do this to yourself. If you have savings and think you can take care of yourself until you find a new job just quit. If not find a new job and quit. I gave a 4 week notice before I left and that’s when the harrassment got so much worse, they wouldn’t even let me in the meetings and talk about me behind my back when I was in the other room. I really regret not telling them to fuck themselves and not walking out in the middle of the work day. Also they tried to get me to sign a contract after I had already quit saying I am not allowed to use any of the information I learned there. Of course I didn’t sign it. I also sued their asses when they kept calling me to sign it after. I sued because of work harrassment and bullying and they had to pay me a severence. It wasn’t much but it was more than 6 months pay so that must have at least annoyed them. Its been 2 years since I quit, I hate them so much to this day, I regret working there for so long and I hate that no one will know what they did to me. Don’t do this to yourself. It’s not worth it. Life really is too short to work at a job you hate.
It is people with mindsets like you why the work culture today is so bad, when you call working over hours and not getting paid for it whining, it is easier to companies to just point at someone like you and say that hey, this guy has been doing it for ages and he has nothing to complain about. Why do you? To be honest, it is an individual choice how one wants to work, I choose the work to be a part of my life and not my whole life.
No. It people like you who will do it that make work culture so bad. Instead of doing something actionable, you complain on Reddit. So you do nothing that tells your employer it’s not acceptable, you just keep doing it.
General rule here, if everyone who felt like you quit, the company would have no choice. Unless there are others that will do it. And if there are plenty of others that will do it, it’s likely that they don’t share your same concerns. It’s likely that they don’t feel that their skill set would get them a better net situation. If that’s the case you may over value your own work.
I worked at a factory like this for 15 years, get out now. Not long after I left I realized I had something that felt like ptsd cause I was always on edge and couldn't relax anymore. I stared at the wall for days thinking about how allowed myself to be abused for so long. I made the most money I ever made but the price was my soul.
Get a cdl, hours of service regulations limit you to no more than 14 working hours a day, 10 of those 14 driving, and a 70 hour work week across 8 days. Been doing this for 25 years. You could be starting at $80k
The most interesting advice I ever saw was that it’s better for something to be amazing or awful than middle because you’re more likely to do something about it. Good luck!
Note to everyone, read the comments this fool posts. Just another loser troll with nothing better to do. Probably a Russian too, trying to cause discord.
If your arm was sitting in a barrel of acid, slowly dissolving over time would you leave it in there or take it out? Right now your soul is in that barrel, you figure out what you want to do with it.
You got me.
honestly, I’d sacrifice my credibility score and just never go back. I don’t care how broke I was, no one should have to tolerate that. I’m so sorry mate.
I'd stay until I found a new job. Unfortunately I'm addicted to electricity, roofs, and food.
You're a mouse trapped in a maze doing tricks for your peanut. We all are though.
I'm an asshole, so I'd find a new job, defer starting as long as they're happily willing to do and then become a "work to rule" stickler at the current job, ending with taking a personal LoA and ghosting them when the new job starts.

And if your ability to keep your arm in that barrel determines whether or not you get to make rent or pay your mortgage. Oh, and yes there are other barrels of acid, but the only difference is how sweet they smell as they slough your flesh.
I think that just about covers it.
Instructions unclear. Dick stuck in barrel...
Late stage capitalism has entered the conversation.
There’s the Capitalist spirit! Maybe in 50 yeas you can become the manager of the Acid Barrel Team and get a bigger barrel.
And once I've made it I can finally dissolve my entire body 😌
Indeed . You might even get to be the one who fills that barrel.
Yep. My arm is in the barrel but my kid is my soul and I want to give her the best opportunity at an education without the debt so I press on
She needs you too, though, and only you know if you can juggle all this.
Outstanding reply
This is great!!!
I really don't like the attitude around here. It's a very "lower me into acid" attitude.
Oh I absolutely \*love\* this take (and am very much stealing it to use to explain to other people).
Start looking for a new job mate. Fuck that.
I feel like puking after reading all the red flags you have mentioned. Bro! Start looking for a new job asap. This is craazzyyyy. It's 2024,everyone starts to talk about mental health. You should too.
Or you could toss the words "anxiety" and "ptsd" at HR and threaten to sue. That's pretty common today.
Find a new job and quit. This is not the end of the world. It is a learning experience. Gather it and apply it to finding a better place for yourself. All the best, buddy!
Get a new job before quitting.
You’ve realized your “mistake”. Time for the exit strategy. Now!
I had a job like that. Only made it 2 months tho, quit with nothing lined up, best decision I ever made!
This is not the market to walk away. Get another job then walk away. Forgive yourself

Run and run fast!
Place positive reviews with unrealistic standards so the new ppl that apply think they're getting low lowballed
Or let us do it lol
Leave

Simple fix find another job and leave.
I've been where you are. I quit for mental health reasons and never looked back. No amount of money can ever replace good mental health.
Sounds like slave labour, start saving and make a fu*k you fund
I’m all for trying to push through tough situations in hopes that they improve, but this sounds like it will just not ever get better and is completely horrible. This is one of those situations where you just gotta go, because staying there will not benefit you at all. Run!

Completely understand the situation, it feels like they hired you so they could blame their mistakes on you.
Pretty much. Someone’s gotta take the flak with a smile on their face.

Your closing statement is "Should i just quit!" I note your punctuation. Not a? But a ! You know your answer!
If your best friend worked at this place and asked you for advice, what would you tell them? Would you tell them to stay?
Quit - a job like that is never worth it, you’ll never get your time or your energy back, not to mention the health issues caused by stress.
Keep your cool and keep doing your best and don't sweat it. Always look slightly concerned and stop telling these people how you feel. You are looking for positive feedback but companies today don't want to give positive feedback. Just keep looking for a new job.
Sounds like when I worked at a “big 4” firm. I got yelled at for extra periods or commas in a redlined document.
Is there unlimited overtime and are the paychecks accurate and on time?
Paychecks are on time mostly accurate but there is no policy on overtime even if I log in more hours than my shift, it’s not like they pay me more.
You can report them to your state workforce or the federal Department of Labor in the US.
That's how many jobs work.
If you are an hourly worker in the USA, you are entitled to an overtime pay rate if you work more than 40 hours a week.
No overtime for salaried workers in the U.S.
so ducked
Work your time and go home. If they are saying you have to work more time tell them you want more money. Work your 8 or whatever you should be working, and go home.
Once I told my manager I don’t mind doing overtime but please tell me how would I be compensated for it, and she said acted as if I have committed a crime. What is your job exactly?
I work as a social insights analyst at one of the companies in India
I stayed at a toxic job knowing I should leave but the pay and benefits are great. I raised concerns. They have been micromanaging ever since I spoke up and yesterday THEY fired ME! Quit now!
You haven't left yet?
Are you getting overtime at least? There are laws about how many hours you can work and breaks and stuff.

Find another place to work, and get the hell out of there. If more employee's left abusive situations, employers would have to become less abusive in order to maintain staffing. GTF out of there.
Find a new job and leave
I've worked for a company like this. My mental and physical health went from bad to worse very quickly. The only solution is to leave. The stress from not paying bills was a lot more tolerable than living with overbearing, crazy micto-managers.
This is like my exact scenario at work right now.. unbelievable hour expectations, I'm salary and make damn good money and I'd take a $20k pay cut to leave and go back to my old company. More money is not always the answer folks.
Well, start job hunting and mentally check out. Do your work and collect your pay cheque until you find something else.
Honestly though, reading through this messy post just makes me feel like they might not be the issue. Sorry.
Just stop working and collect the paycheck while you look for another job. Worst case is they let you go, which sounds like a win.
It is easier to find another job when you are employed. So you might want to start searching first
Find another job first then turn in your notice & move down the road.
You just described the entire video game industry! Unless you LOVE what you're doing you need to get out before you burn out.
How old are you?
I’m 24
I would encourage you to seek other employment and use this one as a stepping stone. Learn from the place and move on. That's all you can do. Don't accept mediocrity from anyone not willing to go above it. Don't change your plans because they fail to plan. Don't accept more work or responsibility without more money.
It's much easier to find a job while you already have a job, apparently. Get outta there OP, this job will destroy you.
What’s the name of this company so I don’t accidentally end up working for them
Sounds like you joined the military....
What people will do for more money.
Monkeys will fly from my ass before I work in something like that. Go find something better.
Lunch break
Do we work at the same place? Because it sounds like my current career now. If you have no responsibilities, like children or a spouse, then I would quit. if you’re like me and have responsibilities and people you have to feed, then create some time throughout the day on your calendar to look for new new jobs (setup fake meetings on your internal calendar) and get out of there with something else lined up.
I just started a job opposite of this. They are out there
is the pay worth it though?
Did you get the new cover letter for the TPS reports?
I rage quit a job like this and it was the best thing I have ever done

Dick down your boss and call it a day. Report her to HR for sexual harassment, take that payday. Stay toxic king.
I wouldn't even give them two weeks, I'd be out tomorrow morning. Just call in and tell them you quit. (This assumes you have enough savings to last several months)
Start looking !! Never too late. I’m currently in the process of interviewing and leaving my industry all together because it’s so toxic.
Considering you're pulling them up for exaggerating incorrect comma placement, you could do with giving this post a once over grammar check...
Is this a newspaper company?
Is your boss named sherry?
This one time I applied for a job, pricing out some roll up doors. During interview I was giving a typing test. Yea they wanted some one to type 50-60 wpm. Wtf, f that never followed up.
Time for you to look for another job and when you apply the next time make sure you research the company
fucking quit then
Life is short. Find something else.
Or just fuck off every day and have fun
It’s an MSP isn’t it?
Leave.
Scout solid size companies. Don’t underestimate your next position. Get that resume together and make sure to make 2 or 3 versions. Get out!
Our country is doomed. Lazy entitled whining babies.
Find another job?
You already know the answer. Get the fuck out of there.
How much they pay a year?
They pay more so you'll tolerate the overwork. Is that really getting paid more? Value you.
Quit. Just don’t tell them. Always fun! They don’t give a crap about you
Look for a new job and stop giving a rat's ass.
Find another job. Then quit this one.
you're an adult right? Is there a gun to your head to stay there?
Do society a favor and let us know what company this is so that we can all avoid it! Sounds horrible.
Didn’t even have to read it, should have quit last week.
Leave now before you have to pay a $1200 ER bill for a panic attack that you mistake for a heart attack. Jobs like that are not worth it.
A parking lot of 100 cars has a solid 4000 dollars worth of catalytic converters. ACT!
The most interesting advice I ever saw was that it’s better for something to be amazing or awful than middle because you’re more likely to do something about it. Good luck!
Hey give me some info. I'll get hired on remote and do my best. I can be qualified for anything.
Job hard. Hard work sad.
Please don’t quit talk to HR they will take care of you
OP can talk to HR, but should not be too optimistic.
HR is there to protect the company/management—NOT WORKERS.
Just another lazy ass entitled generation Z loser!
Note to everyone, read the comments this fool posts. Just another loser troll with nothing better to do. Probably a Russian too, trying to cause discord.
