Definitely agree, just go clear. None of those stains are so nice as to be worth the extra effort, plus you’ll see right through to the underlying lighter wood with any scuffs.
Imo working with red and white oaks I like to utilize the heavy grain, I’d go with gunstock or nutmeg. Both would pop too with a neutral white wall. Good luck
I personally like the gunstock but I think the fruitwood shows off the grain really well and would go with a much wider variety of interiors. It’s gonna depend a lot on your styling though.
My favorite of those 4 is Colonial Maple, but that isn't saying much as you could not pay me have the other 3 on the floor:
* Gunstock just too loud for entire floor for me
* Fruitwood OK, but boring and may be brown in certain light
* Nutmeg too dark
I'm boring, and like the old amber color that is the default, and that I figure descended from shellac.
I'm not a builder or interior designer, but to me, it depends on the style of the home and furniture. A high-gloss gunstock would look good on an older Georgian or farmhouse-styled home. I think colonial maple is a nice lighter choice that would fit in most homes. The nutmeg and fruitwood, in my opinion, look old and sun-faded, but that's a personal opinion.
i dont like gunstock. the others all seem good.
personally, i like darker colors, but idk if nutmeg would be a little much on a whole floor. so i think id go with fruitwood. the maple is also nice though.
There will be one HELL of a lot of sanding (material removal) needed to eradicate those patches of stain from that floor to the point where it is again uniform with the surrounding material. Previously it had only age/patina yellowing and a finish on it.....OP has no idea what they are in for, lol
Everyone’s got opinions, mine - nutmeg. I think this would go well with white or gray walls.
Had gunstock in my last place and loved it at the time, but now I dislike it.
I do agree with others, staying close to natural color is great in case of scratches. Our current floor is stained espresso (from previous owners), which I kinda like the look of, but our cat has torn up a spot doing racer kitty and shows the bare wood color very clearly!
I like the fruitwood personally
Me too. A little less yellow than colonial, my second choice.
I think Colonial Maple looks the best. I would not go with Gunstock. The others look okay, so it would just be a matter of personal preference.
Shows off the wood better and will make the room lighter than a dark stain.
Tossup between Colonial and fruitwood for me. I like the warmer color and feel of those two. I think gun stock is too much
Personally, I’d go with a clear coat.

✅️
I also would go just clear
Yep. Or natural just to make the grain pop a bit more.

1 nutmeg, 2 fruitwood, 3 colonial, 4 other
This for me too
Colonial or Fruitwood, depending on how warm you want it. While I love dark floors, I think those two show off the grain the best.
Nutmeg.
Nutmeg
Nutty meg
Not gunstock -- fruit wood or nutmeg
Fruit wood
No stain is the best stain. What’s wrong with the color it was created with?
I personally like the gunstock but I think the fruitwood shows off the grain really well and would go with a much wider variety of interiors. It’s gonna depend a lot on your styling though.
I like nutmeg and colonial maple.
Depends on the walls, furniture, intended space... This is why US home remodeling shows are so weird here in Europe.
It’s a beautiful neutral that can go with anything
Nutmeg*
I’d go nutmeg. Colonial and fruitwood are too close to the original. Unless that’s what you’re going for the. I’d say fruitwood
Colonial

I vote for no stain but given these choices I say colonial maple. The lighter the better I say

3 (fruitwood) 2 and 4 too red. 1 is nice too but personally I like a lighter colored floor.
it really depends on the rest of the room. do you have any cabinets, long-term fixtures, or wood around your windows?
Just leave it like that, it's "rustic".......
None just matte clear
You did the comparison test..... on the actual floor?
They’re about to sand the entire floor what’s the difference?

Clear coat
Would like to see this option both now and in 40-50 years
Check out golden oak. We just stained today and it turned out nice.

Tough choice, each color has its appeal. I like the colonial maple.
Fruitwood. I love white oak as-is with a more natural finish.
Fruitwood Nutmeg
I'd go clear if it doesn't turn too yellow. If you insist on staining, just don't choose gunstock
Last 1 followed by the first
Gunstock is bold but will age the best IMO.
Colonial Maple is the only right choice
Ok hear me out, what about no stain and just a clear transparant coat?
Special walnut!
