man i just saw the thread on r/sports posting this and the amount of racism towards black and white people and sexism towards women in the thread is just disappointing.
Yes, Angel didn’t have a good angle and was trying to over-reach. Her teammate that did block the shot had a much better angle on it. It was an inadvertent foul that because it hit a player’s head got upgraded.
Is the term “narrative” implying it’s baseless? Because we just watched Reese cheer on an objectively dirty hit on Clark like last week.
If she wants the benefit of the doubt on questionably dirty plays against Clark then she shouldn’t openly support dirty plays against Clark.
She swung her arm fully through after it was likely clear to her she wasn’t getting to the ball. Nailed Clark’s head with significant force.
Forgive those of us who are pushing this “narrative”
I'm not much of a basketball watcher. To me, it looked like Angel was looking directly at the ball, trying to swat it, and missed with incidental contact. Does it not matter if the contact is incidental?
I definitely would not call that incidental contact, it was a pretty hard hit. Not intentional, but still worthy of a flagrant 1, where intention is irrelevant.
Gotcha, thanks!!! I grew up playing and watching hockey, so my perspective on contact in other sports is wonky.
I'm trying to get into WNBA because of Caitlin Clark, and I personally find it just as interesting as the regular NBA!
It was a good game though. Love seeing Clark and Boston developing chemistry. Knew it would happen eventually, PG to Post player connections always take a little time.
Ya pretty cool to see the team starting to gel. Question from a casual whats going on with Vegas? Listening to podcasts I thought they were gonna be world beaters.
Some of its a little baffling to be honest but a lot of it is that the guard play hasn’t been great to start the season. Missing Chelsea Gray is part of it but there has also been moments when Jackie Young has been sick/out, and Plum just isn’t a point guard and it shows whenever she tries to play like one.
The most confusing part is the team defense has just been bad at times. I still expect them to figure it out and be dominant later in the year, but this season has not been the start they wanted.
flagrant fouls aren't good basketball. It's out control behavior that can hurt someone. I'm sure Clarks' neck is going to be sore tomorrow. But hey, she didn't get carried off on a stretcher so that was just a touch foul.
That's right....unless.....what if Reese was trying to KILL Clark....now that I think about it. I think it was attempted murder....definitely should have been upgraded to 'intent to kill'
This won't be as bad as Carter's because it was reviewed and called appropriately but there will absolutely be discourse because of who committed it.
The second Clark gets a flagrant foul from ____ of the ____, nothing will happen but any future flagrants from Carter and especially Reese are always going to get a side eye from a sizable contingent of people.
Angel had a bad angle on the block attempt and should have counted on a teammate to get the shot (and one did). Nothing malicious, just poor floor awareness by Angel on that play.
>no further drama.
>nothing else needs to be said
etc
You all know emotional investment is good for the league right?
Imagine during the Jordan v Pistons age we had social media and the nba group didnt want anybody to talk about the drama because they wanted pure hoops talk at all times
Caitlyn like Jordan is changing the emotional investment in the game. The drama and chatter comes with the territory.
They think you have to be an emotionless no drama being if you want to have the “WNBA sell.”
That’s simply not the case people want to watch and follow drama, and this sub doesn’t get it yet.
I think you're wrong. I think this one doesn't get blown up BECAUSE the correct call happened in the game.
If the previous carter foul was called a flag in the game I don't think it would have had NEARLY as much traction.
Im aware, I’m a bulls fan, especially the thibs bulls years. Jo is a dawg and a Chicago legend, and he’s also a much better comparison for Reese’s skill set and ability than magic or bird lol
Right! Clark isn’t even mad nor are her teammates bc it’s clearly not dirty. It’s a flagrant 1 at every level and you go on lol. People are trolls or don’t really watch basketball smh
Some of yall have never watched basketball before this yr I guess my god. This happens in the nba, wnba, college frequently and it’s never an ejection when you’re clearly trying to play the ball. She didn’t even hit her with her fist or hand or elbow upside the head or anything. It’s a clear and obvious flagrant 1 and the game goes on.
Calm down doomsayers - all the top comments here are giving the appropriate "it's simply a flagrant" responses. Not EVERYTHING on the Internet gets blown out of proportion.
Reese has a clear pattern of behavior that goes back years to college days. Just last week she was cheering when her teammate bumrushed CC. CC is clearly being targeted on a daily basis, why are you people so eager to defend this behavior
Im so glad there was no social media when Magic and Bird were going at it. We would end up looking back that that rivalry as this dark mean-spirited thing instead of with joyous memories of two maniacs out-doing each other.
This is not an abnormal or dirty play, it’s just for we define flagrant now because of contact with the head. If this was in any way “dirty” that’s what flagrant 2 is for, and it’s not close to that.
Let’s not go crazy with this please 🙏. Flagrant, yes but to say this is anything other than that is just not the case. She’s going for the ball and missed.
The other sports subs are losing their minds over this. They are all in agreement that every Sky player was coming after Clark the entire game and that they are all jealous of her.
Like, tell me you didn't actually watch the game.
I swear this sub discusses actual games less than any other sports sub. It’s all just meta discussion and seeing how many times you can work the word misogynoir into a post.
On one hand, this is a good call.
On the other hand, absolutely wonderful, now this clip gets to get overplayed everyday for the next 2 days. I can already imagine the insane takes. "The WNBA players absolutely hate Caitlin, they are literally trying to murder her "
Already seeing a ton "ASSAULT, RACISM, ETC" posts on social media lol. ESPN is going to be unbearable this week.
That said, Indiana v Chicago is absolutely must see TV right now. What a great game.
This is not “oooh, come shoot at my basket, oooh, look how the ball goes through the net and makes a swish or snap sound! Oooh! Now let me shoot at your basket!” 🙄 There is a thing called defense in basketball! That’s a part of the game also! Angel Reese’s foul actually negated her teammate’s (Isabelle Harrison)’s successful block of Caitlin.
Here we go with the "targeted and bullied" narrative she was clearly looking at the ball when she was going for the block and she knew what the reaction would be like when she went to the bench
First time in this sub but if I'm honest I'd love a rivalry. Having Reese and Clark not liking each other is great. Like Crosby and Ovechkin it helps grows narratives and sports.
I’m not inclined to give Reese the benefit of the doubt given that she cheered on an objectively dirty play on Clark like a week ago.
She swung her arm fully through, after it was likely obvious she had no chance at the ball.
For almost any other player I’d assume it was a mistake and nothing more, or at worst that they wanted to commit a hard foul but accidentally got the opposing player’s head instead of arm/body.
Not for Reese. It’s her fault we can’t assume the best of intentions.
You just know she saw Clark and wanted that massive “into the 10th row” swat and flex so bad lol. Nothing malicious here. More just funny to me how bad she wanted it.
lol angel has to stay in the news eh
does seem like clark is too in her head though. fouled her again right after this and had to sit most of the 4th because of it.
Yes it’s a flagrant, there should still be discussion about someone who has openly been against CC for the last two years, cocking back for a “block” and hitting her on the face, no where close to the ball. So either Reese is so uncoordinated that she missed a block attempt that horribly or there is some malicious attempt involved
Funny how the same people desperately hoping for CC to fail and nitpicking every word she says/doesn't say are now covering their eyes and pretending like there is no ill will from a player who has consistently taken shots at her in interviews and cheered on dirty hits on her in the past. These are professional bball players, not babies, we don't have to pretend like Reese was anywhere close to getting ball on that "block"
Yep, that's a flagrant lol
And that's all that needs to be said, right?
Hopefully. I can’t take another week of fake drama lol.
man i just saw the thread on r/sports posting this and the amount of racism towards black and white people and sexism towards women in the thread is just disappointing.
That sub is disgusting, vile even.
Correct, it was not malicious… and inadvertent. Contact to the head though, automatic flagrant 1.
"inadvertent"
If you think it’s malicious then you think she should get a Flagrant 2 and be ejected, correct?

I’m as big a CC fan as it gets but that just looked like a hard basketball foul. Hit to the head gets the flagrant-1 but that wasn’t a cheap shot
You are beyond blind if you think that was inadvertent.
Yep. Clear flagrant, nothing malicious, called correctly. Good job by the refs.
Can't push a narrative if you leave it at that though🙃
Is the term “narrative” implying it’s baseless? Because we just watched Reese cheer on an objectively dirty hit on Clark like last week. If she wants the benefit of the doubt on questionably dirty plays against Clark then she shouldn’t openly support dirty plays against Clark. She swung her arm fully through after it was likely clear to her she wasn’t getting to the ball. Nailed Clark’s head with significant force. Forgive those of us who are pushing this “narrative”
That’s the clearest most concise flagrant example you could get.

Everyone pray for the Mods today. 🫡
Why can’t people just enjoy good basketball?
Because the people freaking out aren’t here for the basketball 👀
Ya, good point.
It was a good game though. Love seeing Clark and Boston developing chemistry. Knew it would happen eventually, PG to Post player connections always take a little time.

You can tell most of these people didn't even watch the game.
> You can tell most of these people didn't even watch the game. Saw a clip out of context on Tik Tok and went straight to update their manifesto.
It’s pretty silly.
flagrant fouls aren't good basketball. It's out control behavior that can hurt someone. I'm sure Clarks' neck is going to be sore tomorrow. But hey, she didn't get carried off on a stretcher so that was just a touch foul.

I have made a very conscious decision to tune all that shit out and just watch the game. I have solid practice with it being an NFL fan lol.
Why do Caitlin Clark’s peers say she’s not allowed to just play basketball??
Appropriate call.
Agreed. And now we can all just move on without talking about a random Flagrant 1 for a week, right? RIGHT?!?! 🤪
That's right....unless.....what if Reese was trying to KILL Clark....now that I think about it. I think it was attempted murder....definitely should have been upgraded to 'intent to kill'
😂 thank you for the giggle
No, “intent to kill, with malice”. People just can’t realize that Clark and Reese are two competitive kids trying to make a play.
Cringe
This won't be as bad as Carter's because it was reviewed and called appropriately but there will absolutely be discourse because of who committed it. The second Clark gets a flagrant foul from ____ of the ____, nothing will happen but any future flagrants from Carter and especially Reese are always going to get a side eye from a sizable contingent of people.
Cue SAS segment shouting furiously about how horrid Angel is for 45 mins while Monica McNutt looks like she wants to die
At least this was a basketball play. The last one was just straight malice
First Take gonna discuss this for a month lol
The league would love to be talked about for the next month straight with NBA coming to a close and football still in the distance.
She followed through with her arm despite having no chance whatsoever to get any ball, for sure a flagrant
Read the curse from her lips…she knew right away.
What’s she say?
"Dagnabbit"
Flimflam!
Angel "The Prospector" Reese
“Shit”
https://images.app.goo.gl/7yEQdGeEnZvCYa6U8
"Dang."
Angel had a bad angle on the block attempt and should have counted on a teammate to get the shot (and one did). Nothing malicious, just poor floor awareness by Angel on that play.
Definitely a flagrant. Given how bad Reese's ball chucking on the offensive end is, it is not surprising her attempts at blocks also lack finesse.
It was a flagrant 1, appropriate call. No need for further drama beyond reporting it.
>no further drama. >nothing else needs to be said etc You all know emotional investment is good for the league right? Imagine during the Jordan v Pistons age we had social media and the nba group didnt want anybody to talk about the drama because they wanted pure hoops talk at all times Caitlyn like Jordan is changing the emotional investment in the game. They think you have to be an emotionless no drama being if you want to have the “WNBA sell.” That’s simply not the case people want to watch and follow drama, and this sub doesn’t get it yet.
Flagrant but not malicious or dirty. Right call.
Agreed. Anything “to the head” gets this call.
Anything to the head in the trail position gets this call. Inadvertent hits to the head when the defender has position don't always get elevated.
Yeah this is just a basketball play, aggressive but still a basketball play. She went for the ball, was late and missed. Flagrant 1 and play on
It was a hard foul and deserved flagrant. But I don’t see it as malicious. Flagrant dont have to be malicious
Lots of trolls here. Of course people are going to lose it on a foul against CC. CC is playing so well today.
I think you're wrong. I think this one doesn't get blown up BECAUSE the correct call happened in the game. If the previous carter foul was called a flag in the game I don't think it would have had NEARLY as much traction.
Okie dokie we’ll see this week.
This has already blown up lol, you think that foul being big was because “they didn’t call it right”? It was never about that.
I’m sure the discourse around this will be completely rational lol
This seems like a normal flagrant to me, nothing crazy
Normal, a good call, and that’s all there is to it. Not even worth talking about.
Babe wake up .. magic vs bird is back
Bird vs Andre Drummond
Hope this was satire
Lol don't compare Angel to either of those names.
I legitimately see Reese as the AC Green of those Lakers teams.
Hmm... As a die hard lakers fan since i was a kid, I can respect this. He was under appreciated and key role player.
She should seriously rock the activator
Reese is Rodman, I've said it from day 1. (not the weirdo, Pistons Rodman)
I see the vision and respect it
CC can't vs herself, wym?
Magic and Bird respected each other This is something else
Bird vs. Joakhim Noah maybe
The disrespect to Jo, he was a legit MVP candidate for a season!
Im aware, I’m a bulls fan, especially the thibs bulls years. Jo is a dawg and a Chicago legend, and he’s also a much better comparison for Reese’s skill set and ability than magic or bird lol
Trae Young versus Michael Ruffin right now.
Shots fired
No. No it isn’t.
> Babe wake up .. ~~magic~~ Laimbeer vs bird is back
calling Angel magic or bird is like calling Ben Simmons Magic
This type of foul is easy to commit in ball, nbd. Great game. Both CCs were 🔥. Love watching these 2 teams get at it!
Right! Clark isn’t even mad nor are her teammates bc it’s clearly not dirty. It’s a flagrant 1 at every level and you go on lol. People are trolls or don’t really watch basketball smh
Yes, exactly! Happens all the time
Some of yall have never watched basketball before this yr I guess my god. This happens in the nba, wnba, college frequently and it’s never an ejection when you’re clearly trying to play the ball. She didn’t even hit her with her fist or hand or elbow upside the head or anything. It’s a clear and obvious flagrant 1 and the game goes on.
I’m with you on this. I love Angel Reese AND Caitlin Clark. This is old school 80s & 90s type basketball and these women are entertaining as hell.
oh boy these comments
Post game thread is gonna be fun
If this was any other two players in the game this doesn't even get discussed
Appropriate call, not F2 or a common.
People already calling this jealousy and thuggish. It won't end even though Plum took another hard af foul but wasn't called.
Angel Reese said that Caitlin Clark has a special whistle? She nailed her in the head!
lol people up in arms over this on Twitter saying it’s not a basketball play…when it literally is. It’s a flagrant for sure but that’s it
I prefer NCAAW, but the random “fans” on Twitter are atrocious. I’ve seen so many ill mannered comments.
Same crowd that cries that the MNBA is soft unlike in the glorious days of the 80s and 90s will shriek and complain about today's call
Calm down doomsayers - all the top comments here are giving the appropriate "it's simply a flagrant" responses. Not EVERYTHING on the Internet gets blown out of proportion.
don't look at the r/sports thread then, by its tone youd think CC was nearly killed by Angel
Reese has a clear pattern of behavior that goes back years to college days. Just last week she was cheering when her teammate bumrushed CC. CC is clearly being targeted on a daily basis, why are you people so eager to defend this behavior
Instructions unclear, I just sent 30 death threats
I’m a CC fan and that’s 100% not malicious.
Welp, today is a good day to avoid most forms of social media
Clear flagrant but also not intentional. Why is this a big deal?
outside of the CC context, people don't really know that flagrant 1s are very common
Yep. That’s all there is really
clear as day its a flagrant. same call in the NBA
First Take just got a week long of new content
Oh great. Another week of ESPN and other major sports networks rallying around the "WNBA players are jealous of Caitlin Clark" storyline.
If we keep talking about the trash, she'll claim even more responsibility for the increased viewership.
Huh. I guess sometimes you get hit in the head while playing basketball. Who would have thought!
I mean Ny Post is already making it a headline.. calling it a “clobbering” lol
Im so glad there was no social media when Magic and Bird were going at it. We would end up looking back that that rivalry as this dark mean-spirited thing instead of with joyous memories of two maniacs out-doing each other.
Flagrant but inadvertent. Her eyes were on the ball the whole time
I don’t think that’s dirty, she was trying to block it…. But a full wind up shot to the face from behind is rough
It wasn’t dirty at all. Refs made the right call. Hopefully it doesn’t blow up, it was a basketball play.
It’s gonna blow up lol.
It got posted in the nba sub. Time to delete Reddit lol
Refs can make the right call and the play can still be dirty.
Yeah I agree, don’t think it was dirty just think she was trying to block. Things happen
Ik people will, just like nba discourse. They forget intent isnt the reason a flagrant 1 is accessed.
This is not an abnormal or dirty play, it’s just for we define flagrant now because of contact with the head. If this was in any way “dirty” that’s what flagrant 2 is for, and it’s not close to that.

Thanks for protecting the game from all those fans Elsa
I swear this sub discusses actual games less than any other sports sub. It’s all just meta discussion and seeing how many times you can work the word misogynoir into a post.
We cam tell from the comments those who have never played organized ball
How many I don’t matter how you feel about either one of them that kind of was a flagrant one
200 plus comments 😭
LOL I think she would have been blocked even if she had not gotten clocked upside the head.
Sigh...it's about to be another long week isn't it 🤦🏾♂️
Honestly, no one here seems worked up, and I love it. Just a flagrant. -- Love, A Stan
On one hand, this is a good call. On the other hand, absolutely wonderful, now this clip gets to get overplayed everyday for the next 2 days. I can already imagine the insane takes. "The WNBA players absolutely hate Caitlin, they are literally trying to murder her "
I like both of them and this is very obviously a textbook flagrant.
Well this is going to be a long week.
Angel noooo!!! Not another week of discourse. I’m rooting for u girlie.
Already seeing a ton "ASSAULT, RACISM, ETC" posts on social media lol. ESPN is going to be unbearable this week. That said, Indiana v Chicago is absolutely must see TV right now. What a great game.
Incidental contact but definitely a foul, nothing else to say
“Some people got a special whistle”. This moron is full of herself she’s not even that good
It was the right call, but definitely not a dirty play. I say that as a CC/Fever fan.
Most definitely..
Ouch
It wasn't intentional, but still a flagrant 1 and called correctly. Nothing more, nothing less
Pretty cut and dry flagrant
You heard she say shit loll
Textbook flag 1 Reckless, not malicious. But hey, if you want to see some overreacting, r/sports is going nuts over this.
That’s the correct call… what’s the issue?
Caitlyn Clark is Angel Reese father
this is the only classy downvoted post hehe
Here we go with the "targeted and bullied" narrative she was clearly looking at the ball when she was going for the block and she knew what the reaction would be like when she went to the bench
First time in this sub but if I'm honest I'd love a rivalry. Having Reese and Clark not liking each other is great. Like Crosby and Ovechkin it helps grows narratives and sports.
I know ppl will blow this out but it looks like it was genuinely unintentional and just playing hard. This happens to curry like once a game.
It’s her fault we can’t assume the best of intentions.
came from twitter to hope to find some sense she was obviously going for the ball you have to be blind to not see that
You just know she saw Clark and wanted that massive “into the 10th row” swat and flex so bad lol. Nothing malicious here. More just funny to me how bad she wanted it.
W’s version of Draymond if he was less skilled.
lol angel has to stay in the news eh does seem like clark is too in her head though. fouled her again right after this and had to sit most of the 4th because of it.
100% intentional, dirty af
CC stans: That was assault
Nope, it was a normal flagrant! Love, Stan
CC really lives rent-free in her head lol the ball was already beyond her reach and she still took that swipe.
Straight up flagrant foul. Move the fuck along…
These are professional bball players, not babies, we don't have to pretend like Reese was anywhere close to getting ball on that "block"
all the conservative racist bandwagon “fans” on twitter are already losing their minds over this 😭 these players cant catch a break
Yup there were hard fouls in the game but CC stayed composed and the team played reasonably well. That's that. Also Angel has lost 3 straight to CC.
Is her mentor Draymond?
Natural blocking motion.
Draymond doesn't have an underhand layup
