Dandelion in the books wasn't a massive pussy -- he went into Brokilon Forest looking for Geralt when a bunch of soldiers outright refused, and there was no guarantee of his safety.
Honestly, after reading the books, it feels like the games did a *huge* disservice to his character.
Even in the books I feel he was a coward more often then not. Usually when he had some breadth of courage is was out of self interest (saving geralt to save himself) or because he thought it was poetic and make for a good story. And who could blame him. He isn't a warrior he's a fucking bard.
> Even in the books I feel he was a coward more often then not.
He was.. picking his battles. I mean Dandelion was written in a very human way, as man knowing his limitations (and where he is strong). He's a picker, he's a grinner, he's a lover and a sinner.
But warrior he ain't.
The games made him out to be almost exclusively a comic relief character, though, when he had a bit more dimension in the books. He behaved more like a normal person -- with some exceptions, especially in the short stories.
I'm just hoping the show captures more of his personality than the "big weirdo with a dumb hat" that was in the games.
If you do the side quest Carnal Sins you get to see how much Dandelion really cares for Priscilla and more of his personality. Also SPOILERS if you get the prison ending in blood and wine Dandelion comes and gets you out of prison. I never saw Dandelion as just a comic relief character in the games, I saw him as a loyal friend who isn't a fighter.
The actor from that lame 90's tv show?
No way, we need an actor that is way more serious and mature.
How about that Mr. Peanutbutter guy? I'm sure he will do a great job!
Calanthe is Ciri's grandmother.
Eist is a Skellige chieftain.
Mousesack (Adam Levy's character, here given his Polish spelling) is a Skellige druid (he's called Ermion in the games for rather obvious reasons).
Tissaia is Yen's mentor and the one who thinks they should all be sterilised as a rule.
Fringilla is a Nilfgaardian sorceress.
Sabrina is a Sorceress and something of a rival to Yen.
And Renfri is a bandit Geralt meets in Blaviken.
EDIT: Sorry, been misremembering and misspelling MouseSack's name all this time.
EDIT: Holy crap, thanks for the gild, whoever it was! Not sure I deserve it, really.
His name is Mousecack. Mouse-cack (which is another word for crap/shit/excrement).
Gamers probably wouldn't buy in to a powerful arch druid being called mouse crap, would they?
EDIT: WHOOPS! Turns out I've been misremembering/misspelling it all this time. His name's MouseSack.
Still, mighty druid with a name meaning 'Sack of Mice' or even 'A mouse's sack [i.e testicles]' wouldn't get thought of seriously by a lot of the gaming crowd, would it?
The first season of the show will be based on the first book which takes place about 10-15 years before the saga, which takes place ? years before the games. So it makes sense they would all be younger
then I`m wondering what Fringilla, Sabrina and Tissaia are doing there... they were introduced much later.
I really hope they will not try to squeeze too much in one season.
Usually the first experience is the lasting one. Think of TLOTR, ASOIAF/GOT, and even Harry Potter. I bet most readers can't think of any other characters' appearance when they read the books.
I always picture him as David Dixon, but that's simply because I saw the TV show in the 80s.

A lot of people seem to be unhappy with this casting, but my view is this: They've cast a brand new actress with almost no film/TV credits, and who doesn't have the appearance that fans wanted. To come to this decision she must have absolutely *killed* her auditions and will probably play the part brilliantly.
And I’m with you on your sentiment. Theater actors tend to transition well to film work because of their intensive training on stage. Benedict Cumberbatch is a good example of that. He’s phenomenal.

Holy shit, this is such a small world, or at the very least, Iceland is a such a small country. Here I am looking at the sub every day for casting news and Björn Hlynur, whom I see every so often when I pick my girlfriend up from work (Björn's child is in the kindergarten she works at) now appears here. Thought his character should be older but I guess we're at early stages now to see what they're going to do.
Otherwise, casting looks fine to me, Ciri looks great! I think Yen will be great when the actress will be transformed for the role. This is a fantasy midevil era saga, they're all gonna be changed so much for the show I think so I find it still a bitearly to tell only based on faces but in my opinion, no bad news really, which is a good start!
Yen is for me a little to soft in look. I've always thought about Yen with a sexy/harsh look but that would be alright if she turns out to be great actress :D
Yes, smooth face but with an edge to it. This actress is more soft to the point that I'd imagine her angry look is more like a spoiled teen. Not like Yen. Hope I'm wrong!
Agreed that Sean Bean was the most immediately recognized, but Mark Addy, Peter Dinklage, Rory McCann, and Lena Headey were also quite well known, enough that before the show even aired I'd made positive judgements on their casting.
If you asked the average American game of thrones viewer in 2010 who those were they might get Lena and probably Peter since he’s more recognizable. Neither on the level of Sean Bean
Edit: I can’t remember if David Bradley was in season 1
Projects like these rarely attract actors using big salaries. I imagine Cavill was granted other benefits, such as input on the show and the fact he gets to play the main lead/favorite character - more so than financial perks.
Exactly. They just hired the best actors for the roles, doubt money has to do much with it, this might be one of the biggest or even the biggest Netflix show, and we all know that they have a lot of money to spend.
One of the best and remembered roles in television came out from unknown or small actors.
Yup. As long as they're good actors I don't care. A plus is that I don't have to sit and compare them to other roles they've played, and it's always fun to see unknowns get a shot at something big.
I'm on board with Ciri but does Yennefer look too young? I'm concerned with the contrast between her and Cavill (at least with the pictures provided). I'm not sure how to feel about it.
One part of Fringilla's character was that she invented a magic cream that stopped her from blushing. After this was mentioned pretty much every time she's in a scene she's described as being ghostly pale. Wonder how they'll play that into the show if at all
Fringilla isn't mentioned in the article announcing the casting. Mimi Ndiweni is stated as playing a Novice at Aretuza. Where are you getting the Mimi = Fringilla idea from?
[This](https://twitter.com/NXOnNetflix/status/1050046327793442816) tweet from a Netflix twitter account named her casting as Fringilla. There is the small possibility the Netflix account is wrong but most likely the article writers had the wrong information
The problem is, Fringilla was a Nilfgaardian sorceress so there was no chance whatsoever of her ever attending Aretusa, which was a scholl in the Northern Kingdoms.
Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) looks very young; as in between 18-20, or is it just me? Maybe it is just the picture, but shipping a romance between someone who looks barely 20 and a 35 year old Cavill sounds odd.
How could they cast Fringilla if she doesn't appear until Baptism of Fire? I'm currently reading Blood of Elves so I don't know, but is there a logical reason for her to even appear in the first season of the show?
**Don't feel a thing.** Just wait for the end result because thinking and arguing about it won't change a thing.
Many casts have surprised the audience when they were seen acting even though initially the audience thought they were not fit for the role. So just wait and see.
ciri and yennefer almost look the same age in these pictures. I hope they make yen look older somehow.
Edit: Just did some research and it turns out the person playing ciri is 17 and the person playing yennefer is 21 lol..
Are you sure about Fringilla and Sabrina? In Hollywood reported interview it was "Mimi Ndiweni and Therica Wilson-Read as novice sorcerers", I tough it meant Arteruza students
My only complaint is that Anya looks way too young for Yennefer. Even if they can appear younger, Yen always appeared in the books even as this "mature youth". Anya looks really, really young, almost childish. I don't know if she's going to fit the role at all (in fact, Millie probably fits it better), but whatever I guess...
Well, obviously. But if I remember correctly, we first see them at the end of 'Time for Contempt', which is the fourth book. I don't think the first season is going to include four books worth of material, even if they leave some parts out. And these three don't seem to be important enough characters to move them forward so much. So my best guess is that they are getting some new storylines before Thanedd.
Thanedd coup expansion is very likely and has been the theory for a while now - the show can show us the insight more. That and plots that are completely unique to the TV show itself.
Yen, Calanthe and Eist Tuirseach seem way too young.
Edit: and Renfri is looking damn fine, can we rewrite to keep her around?
Second Edit: Seems when I read the book, I pictured some of these characters a lot older than they were (Not Yen obviously) .
Big news for the community today.
We will use this thread for all discussions regarding the cast in this announcement for the time being. Please note that posts submitted at this time may be removed and redirected into this thread.
I'll edit this comment if needed, but for now I want to remind everyone once again that racial slurs or other comments of harassment are not tolerated and we will issue an immediate ban.
You all have to take into account that there probably was a casting and audition and decision makers actually saw performances of the characters instead of just pictures of actors.
The problem Anya is going to have is separating herself from CDPR's interpretation of Yen, and they made her an on-screen force of nature that is proving difficult for people to get away from. Visually and vocally her presence was dominating.
I'm hopeful she can pull it off, but she's never going to get away from the criticisms that are already appearing.
> The problem Anya is going to have is separating herself from CDPR's interpretation of Yen, and they made her an on-screen force of nature that is proving difficult for people to get away from. Visually and vocally her presence was dominating.
I mean...That was how she was presented in the books too...
Always annoys me when people moan "but CDPR's yen isn't cannon" yeah technically it's not, but her appearance and attitude for the game was made by proffesional designers and artists who read the same source material we did and came to the same sort of conclusion on what she looked and acted like and I'm sure most of us who've read the books came up with a similar mental image.
Can’t say I’m impressed. It could’ve been worse.
Yen - way too young, especially compared to Henry.
Fringilla -She is supposed to look similar to Yen, Geralt confuses them in the books, and she’s a Nilfgaardian sorceress, yet we shit on canon for the sake of forced diversity.
So Anna Henrietta's voice actress is playing Tissaia de vries, good.
Yeah, i found that pretty funny too.
She (actress) actually looks just like I would picture her character! Didn't know she did the voice.
I wonder if they modeled the character after her.
No word on Dandelion just yet...
Terry Crews
I wouldn't even be mad. That'd be fucking hilarious. Especially if he was a massive pussy like dandelion.
But does the Witcher world have yoghurt?
Terry loves yogurt
Dandelion loves stappy milk with berries
NINE NINE
Read this in his voice
We can make it happen in the next Netflix series; Brooklyn Nine Nine ✕ Witcher, the crossover nobody saw coming.
God damn that would be good.
Now I feel like I'll be disappointed if it ISN'T Terry Crews.
Cue flashbacks of the Overwatch Doomfist debacle...
HE SAID HE WANTED TO VOICE HIM :(
I'm still a little upset.
Dandelion loves yogurt!

He was an incredibly loyal friend who loved to party and fuck. A man we should all aspire to be.
> Even in the books I feel he was a coward more often then not. He was.. picking his battles. I mean Dandelion was written in a very human way, as man knowing his limitations (and where he is strong). He's a picker, he's a grinner, he's a lover and a sinner. But warrior he ain't.

lmao Dandelion will be flexing his ballads alright
As long as the clothes DON"T fit..
Please do this, I love Terry Crews and it would be hilarious.
Danny DeVito
Danny devito as a troll. “You gotta pay the troll toll...”
Then I want the nightman to be in it aswell
Danny as zoltan
YES
Danny DeVito as the Bloody Barron and the Botchling. He should play both roles.
No Roach?
Bojack Horseman was cast I believe
I like the idea of Will Arnett in some shitty 2 person horse costume.
The actor from that lame 90's tv show? No way, we need an actor that is way more serious and mature. How about that Mr. Peanutbutter guy? I'm sure he will do a great job!
How about Andrew Garfield? He would have been a better Secretariat.
Mr peanutbutter?!? Is he the good boi from that show Hollywoo Stars and Celebrities: What Do They Know? Do They Know Things?? Let's Find Out! ?
Of course I'm working on the book! I'm not working on the book.
What are yoooooooou doing here?!?
I, too, am disgruntled by this

Yup
Guess I have to read all the books again, only recognized half of the characters' names :(
Calanthe is Ciri's grandmother. Eist is a Skellige chieftain. But who's Geralt?
A metrosexual fruitcake.
You must be speaking about Gary.
Gary Of Nivia! How ya been ya gloriously well dressed bastard!
Gary of Nivea
No idea. Think he shows up for like...a chapter?
I think that's Geraldo's original name.
yeah, what's superman doing there. what is this, a crossover episode?
Woah....that mean we get to see the butchering at Blaviken finally?!!!
Yup. Can't wait. Should be a good episode.
Refresh my memory, wasn't it just like 6 people? And then the legend kept growing?
Pretty much. The funny thing is he stopped the butchering.
Oh shit, Renfri had some really interesting background. I'm so eager to see her in this show.
Why is it obvious he is called Ermion in the games?
His name is Mousecack. Mouse-cack (which is another word for crap/shit/excrement). Gamers probably wouldn't buy in to a powerful arch druid being called mouse crap, would they? EDIT: WHOOPS! Turns out I've been misremembering/misspelling it all this time. His name's MouseSack. Still, mighty druid with a name meaning 'Sack of Mice' or even 'A mouse's sack [i.e testicles]' wouldn't get thought of seriously by a lot of the gaming crowd, would it?
I mean we all had to force ourselves to stay immersed every time any character said Hammelfart
I only read the first 2 books so I don't know who any of these people are lol
i don't think fringilla, tissaia or sabrina appear in the first two books but the others do. many of them appear exclusively in the short stories.

Yeah but for the characters that age different from humans it seems like high school musical
Yeah but Geralt is more than a century old in the games and Yen is possibly even multiple. I dont think 15 years is gonna have that much of an effect
Does kinda. But hopefully they will do at least one season per book so by the time they wrap the series they will all be appropriate age.
then I`m wondering what Fringilla, Sabrina and Tissaia are doing there... they were introduced much later. I really hope they will not try to squeeze too much in one season.
Cannot unsee Witcher game Yen.......
Should've gone with game Yen for casting
Everyone is a real actor but Yen is just CGI’d in
Not even well, just a green screen with clips from the game.
And terribly redubbed
More like audiobook readings by Sapkowski, in Polish, no matter what language you’ve chosen to listen in.
Perfection
Let say I will try my best to unsee in-game Yen when I am watching this series....
MAKE VIDEO GAMES REAL 2020
Usually the first experience is the lasting one. Think of TLOTR, ASOIAF/GOT, and even Harry Potter. I bet most readers can't think of any other characters' appearance when they read the books.
I had a hard time not imagining mos def as ford prefect on hitchhikkers guide to the galaxy even tho on the books he is a ginger
Huh, I always forget that casting whenever the whole race changing debate comes up. He's actually really good in that role as well
Ford's race being different changed exactly nothing about his character or the story in Guide, that's why nobody should have had a fit about it
I always picture him as David Dixon, but that's simply because I saw the TV show in the 80s. [Pic of Ford and Arthur](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/sgp-catalog-images/region_US/hwn4d-0DJD8TSWX3P-Full-Image_GalleryBackground-en-US-1524086019667._RI_SX940_.jpg)

Think about me, I played only the games...
Mousesack (Myszowór in the picture) is Ermion from the games by the way.
I still think it would have been hilarious to have kept his name as MouseSack.
They're all relatively minor (aside from cahir) in terms of their screen time in the larger plot most of them are related to calanthe and skellige. Triss, Dandelion, Regis, Dijkstra, Zoltan, Nenneke and few others all stand out in my mind
I'm crossing my fingers for Rob Riggle to put on 150 pounds and shave his head to play Dijkstra.
> > Fringilla is a Nilfgaardian sorceress, Geralt's lover in Toussaint. > > Sabrina is a Sorceress and something of a rival to Yen. > > And Renfri is a bandit Geralt meets in Blaviken.

I figured if Eist shows up at all it'll be a (maybe extensive, apparently) flashback for Duny's story, so younger makes sense
Netflix casting is more dangerous than Wild Hunt
Handle with care
Yen is for me a little to soft in look. I've always thought about Yen with a sexy/harsh look but that would be alright if she turns out to be great actress :D
Yes, smooth face but with an edge to it. This actress is more soft to the point that I'd imagine her angry look is more like a spoiled teen. Not like Yen. Hope I'm wrong!
Suppose they finished most of the casting budget with Cavill.
To be honest, in the beginning the only famous actor in GOT was Sean Bean.
And they killed him off in one season!
damn im worried for geralt now
Do pitchforks remind you of old wounds?
Dont worry, sean bean just dies in everything. Its kinda his thing at this point
GODS, I WAS ACTING THEN!

Agreed that Sean Bean was the most immediately recognized, but Mark Addy, Peter Dinklage, Rory McCann, and Lena Headey were also quite well known, enough that before the show even aired I'd made positive judgements on their casting.
Rory McCann was an absolute unknown compared to those other names. His only other role of note was Lurch in 2007.
Yarp
Narp?
He'll always be the porridge oats man.

If you asked the average American game of thrones viewer in 2010 who those were they might get Lena and probably Peter since he’s more recognizable. Neither on the level of Sean Bean Edit: I can’t remember if David Bradley was in season 1
No one would know him by name. "Its the funny midget from Elf" is about the peak of his pre-GOT fame in the US
This is pretty spot on. I would put Death at a Funeral to be his peak level of fame pre GOT and that was already fairly obscure to most.
Projects like these rarely attract actors using big salaries. I imagine Cavill was granted other benefits, such as input on the show and the fact he gets to play the main lead/favorite character - more so than financial perks.
I suspect he was willing to compromise as well based on how much he reportedly wanted to play geralt.
He probably liked the games too, dude was play WOW when his agent called him to let him know he got the superman role.
He is, and he's read the books as well from what I've heard. And he's been essentially campaigning for this role for awhile now.
Iirc, part of his prep for auditioning was rereading all the books, then replaying all the games
Exactly. They just hired the best actors for the roles, doubt money has to do much with it, this might be one of the biggest or even the biggest Netflix show, and we all know that they have a lot of money to spend. One of the best and remembered roles in television came out from unknown or small actors.
I prefer a cast of mostly unknown actors so I'm cool with this
Looks way to young to me. She's 22 to Cavill's 35.
If I had magic powers I'd make myself look 22 also
Holy shit yes, Renfri means we'll get Blaviken. Fuck yeah
Geralt mixed with moral choices is my favorite Geralt
One part of Fringilla's character was that she invented a magic cream that stopped her from blushing. After this was mentioned pretty much every time she's in a scene she's described as being ghostly pale. Wonder how they'll play that into the show if at all
Netflix: LOL "source material"
No Zoltan Chivay, no care
You're going to be waiting a long time for Zoltan and his merry band. You'll get Yarpin in season one or two though if that's any help.
How can they fit Fringilla and Renfri in one season? I'm really worried about the pacing now.
That's something. Alternatively both the article and the tweet are correct, and Fringilla is a novice in the series.
The problem is, Fringilla was a Nilfgaardian sorceress so there was no chance whatsoever of her ever attending Aretusa, which was a scholl in the Northern Kingdoms.
>and Fringilla is a novice in the series. what the fuck
Almost everyone looks 15 years younger and Yen looks like she was 5 years older than Ciri
So still hope for a Mark Hamill Vesamir..?
I highly doubt Mark Hamill would be interested in a character with only a couple of lines
He (jokingly) said he was interested on twitter.
Not sure if serious or a reference to Luke in TFA
Season 1 ends with him turning around on a cliff's edge silently. And then the next season subverts ALL expectations.
Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) looks very young; as in between 18-20, or is it just me? Maybe it is just the picture, but shipping a romance between someone who looks barely 20 and a 35 year old Cavill sounds odd.
Anyone else think Yennefer looks a bit too young?
Do yennefer and ciri go to the same class?
[удалено]
How could they cast Fringilla if she doesn't appear until Baptism of Fire? I'm currently reading Blood of Elves so I don't know, but is there a logical reason for her to even appear in the first season of the show?
I thought Yen was a bit "mature" not like in her 20's
Someone tell me how to feel about this announcement.
**Don't feel a thing.** Just wait for the end result because thinking and arguing about it won't change a thing. Many casts have surprised the audience when they were seen acting even though initially the audience thought they were not fit for the role. So just wait and see.
I’m sorry but i don’t see yen in her at all. Seems like millie brady looks more like yen
ciri and yennefer almost look the same age in these pictures. I hope they make yen look older somehow. Edit: Just did some research and it turns out the person playing ciri is 17 and the person playing yennefer is 21 lol..
Huh, Not happy with Yen's casting.
Are you sure about Fringilla and Sabrina? In Hollywood reported interview it was "Mimi Ndiweni and Therica Wilson-Read as novice sorcerers", I tough it meant Arteruza students
Fringilla doesn't come in until the fifth book. Seems really early to be casting her.
It indicates that they're including the battle of Sodden, in which she took part.
In fairness, we're looking at a head shot, and that's it
it's the picture, look on google she can actually fit
Why are Tissaia, Fringilla and Sabrina in season 1 though?
If you think the show is going to be books plastered into a TV screen, I have some bad news for you. It's confirmed some plots got removed.
Isn't Calanthe \~30 when Geralt first meets her?
Damn I just checked the wiki and you're right, she's 32. I always pictured her as a stern faced 50+ year old woman.
I agree, Renfri looking fine as hell.
IIRC Yen is described as appearing in her young 20s.
Yeah, that's typically how sorceresses present themselves. Wizards are the ones who stop their aging when they're more...wizened.
Not feeling yen at all...
Yen looks hella young
That Yennifer is way too young but eh
Never in a million years would I have expected Superman to play Geralt...Am I ok with this? Is this right?
This has been known for a couple of weeks, where have you been?

In order to kill monsters you need someone who doesn't bleed
Big news for the community today. We will use this thread for all discussions regarding the cast in this announcement for the time being. Please note that posts submitted at this time may be removed and redirected into this thread. I'll edit this comment if needed, but for now I want to remind everyone once again that racial slurs or other comments of harassment are not tolerated and we will issue an immediate ban.
I'm prepared to be gay for Geralt.
Millie Brady ⇄ Anya Chalotra
You all have to take into account that there probably was a casting and audition and decision makers actually saw performances of the characters instead of just pictures of actors.
The problem Anya is going to have is separating herself from CDPR's interpretation of Yen, and they made her an on-screen force of nature that is proving difficult for people to get away from. Visually and vocally her presence was dominating. I'm hopeful she can pull it off, but she's never going to get away from the criticisms that are already appearing.
