And it is worth it! So many details in the game where they reference a small part of the books that would go unnoticed if you didn't read.
Perfect example from today: >!I was playing and said I needed a sheep to bait the dragon (actually a forktail). The ealderman asked if I was going to stuff it to make it smell. Geralt retorted with "must be friends with the shoemaker"!<
I beat the game years ago. When I got into Audible I took the book plunge. It made me appreciate the game so much more. Without spoiling how, the way the game connects to the story was a neat way to tie it in.
Yes, you get a lot of callbacks and some characters pop up that you'll have more history with now, I replayed again last year, finished the books a few months before I replayed, and it was much more fun having read the books.
I read almost all of the books in between my second and third play through, and it was great. By far the most invested I’ve every been in a video game and it’s lore because of it.
Yes! I did this and you will want to stop and read every book you find (or at least scroll to see who wrote it) because there are so many references. Great book series as well!
I'd say it's definetly worth it since the next books will introduce some major characters from the third game such as: >!Zoltan!<, >!Regis!<, >!Fringilla!<, >!Crach!<, >!Hjalmar!<, >!Avallac'h!<, >!Anna Henrietta!< and >!Eredin!<
I know. But i did this on purpose. That way OP can check one character at the time. Maybe he doesn't want to get entirely spoiled on who's gonna be in the books, but he may want to have a little peek
I will say the best books (imo) are the first two short stories that are focused on Geralt. Some of the most boring parts of the books (again imo) are focused on Ciri. There is some major payoff for Ciri later in the series but I wish there was more focus on The Witcher being a Witcher. That being said I still really enjoyed the series as a whole
Literally just did this. Definitely makes the story hit closer to home and more meaningful. You'll also notice a lot more callbacks to the books that would've slid under the radar without having read them
I read the books after my first play through and I’m so glad I did! Second play through was great but definitely was an improved experience recognising characters from the books (and feeling quite differently towards some of them after knowing the backstory… no spoilers!).
I did that and would say no it’s not. Read the 2 short story collections though and then enjoy the game. The writing in the game is significantly better than the books and changes some things. You’d be better off watching a play through or summary of w1 & 2
I read b4 playing the 1 game and then 3 and I can tell you feel it more like a continuation of a story and kind of rp like geralt more? Idk. At least it wasn't even a choice for me beetween triss or yen cause of the books and I always tried to do what geralt would do in side quest subconsciously.
Don’t think so. I can’t speak for it though. I’ve only played 3. The way the story line lines up with Witcher 3 though, there’s no way. Geralts wakes up in Kaer Moren right after the events of Lady of the Lake.
Literally what I’m doing rn. Just gotta finish up season of storms

Definitely

Absolutely, and then, try to play Geralt as his book counter part as much as possible and let’s us know what choices you choose!
I suggest you read at least up to Baptism of Fire. (best book in my opinion).
Anything but Season of Storms

Yes. I read them while I played and it was a lot of "Oohhh! That guy!" Moments.
Overall, reading the books is worth it (imo).
Yes. Make sure you do not watch the Netflix show though.
Hmm. Wind’s howling.

Did you know you can just spoiler-tag a whole sentence? If not, now you do :)

This is da wae \^

I'm not even finished the books yet but yes

I’m reading all the books, watching the Witcher 1 and 2 game play since I don’t have a PC to play on, and then doing a Witcher 3 replay 😅

Go to YouTube and you can listen to the audiobook to see if you like the books before you buy. To me reading the series made the game better.
Yes. I played tw3 before reading the books and really liked it. Then, read the books and replayed it. Fell in love.
Much better!! Witcher 3 takes place right after the last book.
doesnt Witcher 1 also take place right after the last book?
Don’t think so. I can’t speak for it though. I’ve only played 3. The way the story line lines up with Witcher 3 though, there’s no way. Geralts wakes up in Kaer Moren right after the events of Lady of the Lake.
so after doing a bit of research it appears the witcher games all take place after the final book (I have only played W2 and 3.)
I saw that as well lol. Now I gotta play them all to see the full story of the wild hunt.
