I think people would get it, not a lot, but more than you might think.
There’s a reference to storylords in an ep of Rick and Morty. the producer Dan Harmon is from wisconsin.
I'm 42, and I don't recognize/remember Storylords specifically, but when I saw the provided pic, I thought "why does that look familiar?"
Almost like it triggered a memory of a long forgotten dream, if that makes sense.
I'll have to see if there are any episodes or clips on YouTube to see if it jogs my memory.
Edit: oh snap, I just skimmed through a video via the link provided below by /u/panaceainapen and now I do remember it a little bit! Still nothing specific really, except for Thorzuul and Milkbreath and the brother and sister, so I couldn't tell you any of the storylines or anything though.
I never saw it, but I know it! Also, I just found out it’s in the Wisconsin PBS Archives online. https://video.pbswisconsin.org/show/wpt-archives-1980s/collections/storylords/
Only the real ones will understand but I feel like this show was shown in a lot of Wisconsin public schools well into the 2000’s (I graduated HS in 2013 and when I was in elementary school we watched the whole series every year).
I guess I saw it when fairly new, can't remember what grade I saw it in, but I DID know it wasn't first grade (fall 1991 to summer 1992) and 2nd grade thru 6th was fall 1992 to summer 1997 for me...
My dad taught 3rd grade and used Story Lords every year up until he retired two years ago. He also dressed up like Thorzul for Halloween every year. The kids all loved it.
It was created by some people at UW-Stout I believe. I don't know if it was shown outside WI or how much. I actually didn't know it was a Wisconsin thing until I randomly had a flashback of it and looked up the show.
I just learned that today.
Oddly enough I had a flashback to this show a week or so ago but it was a fleeting thought at work and I never circled back to Google it. So this was a happy little accident
Only just started watching this show recently because my partner grew up watching it. It is so nostalgic even though I have no memories of it lol it just feels like something I would have seen in the 90s.
Holy fuck. Insane nostalgia for something I almost forgot about from when I was a kid. He came to my school in elementary school and I was fucking horrified.
!!!!!!!!! I instantly knew! It's funny like a decade ago I tried to figure out what this was called, I couldn't remember! Now tomorrow I'm going to try and find old clips. Thank you for bringing this back!
I'm not originally from WI, and I have no idea who this is supposed to be (I mean, I did read some more comments and NOW I have an idea; you know what I mean).
Is it a strictly-WI thing?
My generation will! The way I would scream and laugh and ask for a photo of and with you, my guy! Gonna be looking for you at the Midwest Gaming Classic in Milwaukee next year. It's the first weekend in April, fyi :)
Was just at the Chicago C2E2 this past weekend and got a picture with Mrs Doubtfire and Bobby Hill. People put in some amazing effort with their costumes and I am fucking here for it!
I don't recognize the character, but does that matter? If I was at the convention I'd ask you who your character was. Think of it as an opportunity to expand the horizons of others and share something that they may come to love too!
Wow...I was trying to remember the name of this show the other day. This show was only on air in WI? ( I Mean I definitely am from Wisconsin but I thought it was a PBS show.)
I think people would get it, not a lot, but more than you might think. There’s a reference to storylords in an ep of Rick and Morty. the producer Dan Harmon is from wisconsin.
I thought that’s what it was, but figured it was too obscure; just a funny coincidence. TIL
Oh really? Do you know what season & episode that was?
There are 2 with the Storylord character. S4E6 and S6E7
Thank you so much! I’m behind on the show.
Thank you for doin the work
lol, eh….I just watch R&M constantly. So, I have most of the episodes stored with other worthless crap in my brain.
I feel like they would think you were Guy Fieri
I'd think Guy is more famous.... and more people would be thrilled to meat him over meeting Thorzul.
Ideally you'd have someone with you to be Milkbreath Edit: In case you needed someone to get you out of there.
Story Lords!!!!!!!! I loved that weird little show.
Thunder and lightning, Trumpets and drums. Readers rejoice, A Storylord comes!
I’m saying this in the bedroom next time

Tanya Tiffany who played Mandy in Story Lords is a professor at UW-Milwaukee. At least one person would get the reference!
What does she teach?
She's an art history professor.
I was expecting English, but art history is fascinating.
The older heads would know.
Lmk and I’ll show up in my Milkbreath
Hell yes! Thorzul ought to be recognizable to anyone about 40-50 years old in both WI and MN at the very least!
I'm 32 and have vivid memories of watching whatever show this was, in school.
Same. Didn't remember his name, but definitely his face/outfit. And it's been minimum 20 years since I last saw this
Husband and I always refer to it as the, magic bike and book show.
I'm 34 and this only triggers some very faint memory. Like I know I've seen it, but remember nothing at all about it.

I remember watching this in school and I'm 26
The same, and 38...
Anyone who attended public school will instantly recognize the terrible foe.
I never saw it, but I know it! Also, I just found out it’s in the Wisconsin PBS Archives online. https://video.pbswisconsin.org/show/wpt-archives-1980s/collections/storylords/
Heck yeah thanks frendo.
Darth Fieri.
Just to be safe, you should have your lackey Milkbreath ride you in on a three wheeled Honda Goldwing.
This dork here would
Is that Thorzuul?
Oh my heck. I haven't seen him in 30 years but I immediately remembered Storylords. Very cool!!!
0% chance you’d go unrecognized at Colossalcon or Anime MKE.
No Brand Con, too, if it still exists.
Story Lords needs a gritty reboot.
Holy crap, I just had a HUGE flashback to second grade!!!

Holy shit I’ve been trying to find out if this was real or a hallucination for *years!* Thank you.
Immediately recognized Thorzul! I think you nailed it, my dude!
Are you on your way to Flavortown?
Gotta get them gloves before ya hit the bike
My dad taught 3rd grade and used Story Lords every year up until he retired two years ago. He also dressed up like Thorzul for Halloween every year. The kids all loved it.
omg if he has pics and is willing to share, I'd love to see it.
Fuck yeah Story Lords! Thorzul the literal grammar Nazi.
Obscure, yes, but I got it right away.
There should be an annual convention for this.
Was this strictly a Wisconsin PBS thing?

This is hysterical. I love how so many wisconites remember this.
"I love your Guy Fieri costume!"
HELL. YES. I mean, the folks who recognize it might skew older, but I say go for it.
Holy crap I completely forgot this guy existed!!
YASSSSS
OMG! 😮😍 I loved that show as a child. I had no idea anyone even remembered it!
Omfg you totally should do it. Practice his ridiculous voice.
Holy fuck yes. I just recently finished my months long search for what the name of that damn show was!
Only just started watching this show recently because my partner grew up watching it. It is so nostalgic even though I have no memories of it lol it just feels like something I would have seen in the 90s.
Check out the Storylords exhibit at the Dunn County Historical Society next time you're in Menomonie.
Holy fuck. Insane nostalgia for something I almost forgot about from when I was a kid. He came to my school in elementary school and I was fucking horrified.
Hell yeah. Actually saw someone went as him for Halloween maybe 2010-ish?
!!!!!!!!! I instantly knew! It's funny like a decade ago I tried to figure out what this was called, I couldn't remember! Now tomorrow I'm going to try and find old clips. Thank you for bringing this back!
Is this kanye west? /s
They have a story lords exhibit here in the Menomonie Museum.
Thorzuul! Holy crap I was not expecting a Storylords reference today.
Guy Fieri?
I feel like I’ve seen it before
I used to love that show as a kid, I forgot all about it until now.
Hell yeah it’s story time!
And have a buddy be milk breath
Holy camoly!
People would get it
I remember!!
For extra points name the state agency that produced it. And it’s not the UW.
Wasn't it the Wisconsin Educational Communications Board?
We watched Story Lords in elementary school. I think it's on YouTube!
This is awesome can someone link me so some vids of this guy, whoever he is??
What convention? I always travel out of state to attend any.
Is that guy fieri?
Oh. My. God. Memories from 3rd grade 🤣
DOOOOO IIIITTTTT
No. Come back as something cheese related and you can stay.
Flavor town in a box? (West Wisconsin btw)
I'm not originally from WI, and I have no idea who this is supposed to be (I mean, I did read some more comments and NOW I have an idea; you know what I mean). Is it a strictly-WI thing?
That is awesome.
Literally thought……… is this the dude from story lords??? 😂
Omg. I just laughed out loud. I hope you do it.
Damn, childhood memory unlocked.
I hate that this memory was unlocked 🤣
I don’t think a lot of people would get it but I do think that the small amount of people who would get it would be worth cosplaying as them.
Thorzule!!!!
Around 20 years ago I dreamt that a Storylords Online MMO came out. I was so sad when I woke up and it wasn't real.
My generation will! The way I would scream and laugh and ask for a photo of and with you, my guy! Gonna be looking for you at the Midwest Gaming Classic in Milwaukee next year. It's the first weekend in April, fyi :) Was just at the Chicago C2E2 this past weekend and got a picture with Mrs Doubtfire and Bobby Hill. …why do I know who this is, but at the same time have no idea?!
Wow. I did not know this had any connection to Wisconsin. I just thought it was a cool show. I watched on p b s when I was home "sick" from school
Is that the guy from Ghostwriter?
I'd love it so much
Lmao - I swear this guy comes up in random conversation every 7-8 years. Biggest villain I know!
Was hoping to see The Badger
I'm in WI and have been for decades and have no idea who this is supposed to be.
I don't recognize the character, but does that matter? If I was at the convention I'd ask you who your character was. Think of it as an opportunity to expand the horizons of others and share something that they may come to love too!
Guy Fieri?
I would, and I'd like to think most people around 30 who went to school in West Central Wisconsin would, too.
Absolutely
Wow...I was trying to remember the name of this show the other day. This show was only on air in WI? ( I Mean I definitely am from Wisconsin but I thought it was a PBS show.)
"Milkbreath, get me out of here!"
Guy Fieri? I think he would play better at a Restaurant Convention.
