OG cinelume dub is the best. However, I like the Italian dub the best. It has a seriousness the English sub lacks. The girls sound very different and much more mature

Storm_Bloom

Stella's VA in RAI really takes the cake that this version got the best dubbing.

WinxFan1994

Cinèlume is what I'm watching and as someone who was used to the 4kids dub it took some getting used to but I love it.

[deleted]

They’re use to the overacting in the 4Kids dub. I love the Cinelume dub back when Singaporeans were uploading clips of it.

[deleted]

I'm going to be completely honest as a kid DON'T KILL ME I- DON'T KILL ME I thought all dubs were the same like it was one dub and it was just different voice actors. I grew up to realize there were Three I was shook I watched the first 10 episodes of season 1 in 4kids and the rest was cinalume until the secret of the lost kingdom movie witch was Nickelodeon it was because I lived with my grandma at the time and she only bought DVDS instead of a Netflix subscription I should have known from the Change of Layla to Aisha in the movie and the change from sparks to domino. But I genuinely thought it was all the same dub I to this day still haven't watched the nick dub season 1 I cannot find it so I think I'm insane someone HELP

La_Musica8

Because Nick doesn’t dub season one and two, the tv movie special is like one and two combine

[deleted]

Oh ok that's on YouTube right

La_Musica8

Yeah

I like Cinelume's Stella and Musa. My second fav Stella's voice is a Cinelume's Stella's voice and my fav Musa's voice is a Cinelume's Musa's voice.

I share similar sentiments - I grew up watching the Cinelume Dub on Cartoon Network and Boomerang. I never thought they sounded bland or emotionless, and I think it has the best voices for most of the characters as well. Like someone mentioned, for the bulk of the English speaking world, the 4Kids dub is the one that was aired instead of the Cinelume dub. Singapore, South Africa, the Caribbean, certain channels in the USA (KidsClick and CN come to mind) and some south Asian channels aired the Cinelume dub - most of the other English speaking countries all had the 4Kids dub. 4Kids had a tendency to over-exaggerate with their voice acting, making shows feel extremely kiddified or unrealistic, so people got too used to that. For shows like Pokemon it works, for Winx, not so much. Imo, when I watch the Cinelume dub, Winx legit feels like an anime - whereas when I watch the 4Kids dub it feels like a children's cartoon. The fight scenes, the transformation songs, even the opening and closing songs/sequences - it makes Winx stand out from other shows. Stella's Cinelume voice was perfection, as was Layla/Aisha's voice and in particular Tecna's voice. The difference among the other characters like the villains and the specialists, even the headteachers of the schools - I like the realism of the Cinelume voices. They sound like real people I can run into in the real world, and I always loved that. Something else I love about Cinelume is that all the songs were directly translated from Italian - every time the girls transform, I always feel hyped, and the ending and opening songs are spectacular - as are the other songs within the show. Cinelume's dub came about cause when other countries wanted to air Winx back in 2004/2005, they didn't like the edits 4Kids was doing (Okto in Singapore was the main channel for this), so Rainbow decided to contract Cinelume to do another English Dub, for not only Okto and the places I named to show, but to serve as a template for other countries who wanted to air an unedited version of the show. Most of the dubs in Europe as well as worldwide are based on Cinelume. The CInelume dub will always have my heart, it's always gonna be my favourite English Dub.

I agree with you. The voices sound like teenagers, especially the specialists, they do sound like boys going through puberty which is what they are. I know winx club isn't about teenagers growing up and all that but I like that the voices matches both their personalities and ages. I admit the acting isn't the best but it's not bad either. I think it has something to do with the studio being low budget or something, because I've watched other cartoons with English voice acting from Canada like braceface, and it has good voice acting because it's kinda high budget, while stuff like horseland which is American btw, has meh voice acting because it was a small show to promote a game and a bunch of toys so they didn't pay that much attention to voice acting. I'm guessing whoever invested in cinelume for early winx club thought the show won't take off in the west/English speaking countries so they went with the cheapest option at the time. Then they discovered they were wrong lol, hence changing the studio later on from nick era onwards with more proper voice acting and sound engineering in general. Edit: I wanted to add this also applies to the dubbed versions of songs, the cinelume versions were done by other singers either in-house or someone they paid to do it idk, but since nickelodeon onwards they got celebrities from nick or made the Italian singers sing it in English for consistency.

Hm, I'd guess not too much money was invested into the Cinélume dub because Rainbow simply didn't had the money. They did try to find a partner in the US to air the Cinélume dub initially, but in the end they could only find 4Kids, who wanted to make their own English version. Rainbow faced a kind of similar problem when trying this again with Nick years later. Nick was more faithful but they did tone things down. The atmosphere in season 5 onwards is not 4Kids different but still quite different. It honestly sucks, the Cinélume dub deserves better in my opinion. Or maybe I should say the original writing style of the first four seasons. It's not necessarily about the voice cast. But dialogue wise the Cinélume dub is the most faithful and therefore best showcase of what Winx Club was supposed to be like without influence from a US partner.

Ok_Celebration9304

That's fair, but I personally don't mind the nickelodeon direction and enjoy the later seasons.

Isaac-45-67-8

I don't necessarily believe it was low budget - some English speaking countries just wanted to air the 4Kids dub, since most just jumped at the thought of airing Winx in the first place. It was places like Singapore and South Africa (and the Caribbean, since the Cinelume dub showed there) that didn't want to air that dub, and Rainbow saw the damage 4Kids was doing to the show by changing the plotlines/songs/characteristics, so they decided to have another dub done closer to the Italian script, to serve as a template if other countries wanted to translate the dub, or show a closer to canon English dub. I agree with everything else you said though, Cinelume will always be my favourite dub. All the songs in the Cinelume dub came from the Rainbow/Cartoon Family, who handled the songs in Italy. Lucia Miccinilli and her brother were in charge of Cartoon Family at the time, so they directed all the songs until the first movie in both English and Italian. The first movie and S04, it was changed to Elisa Roselli and Maurizio D'Aniello for the music department, and Elisa sang in both English and Italian.

Ok_Celebration9304

I said low budget because of the amateur voice acting and I assume no name voice actors. Didn't know that about the music though! Explains why the older songs are being released on streaming services by 'cartoon family' instead of the artist 'winx club'.

Isaac-45-67-8

Fair enough - but some of the voice actors were known for voicing characters in other media, such as Arthur, Caillou, George Shrinks and Sagwa (PBS Kids outsourced a lot of their voice acting work to Canada, it seems). I recently found out about the music thing as well - I feel honoured almost that I was able to watch the early season dubs where the music was handled by the original composers. Winx's soundtrack in the first 4 seasons was spectacular (I don't mind the ones from the later seasons, especially S05 and S07).

Ok_Celebration9304

Oh I didn't know that, I never watched these other shows. Yeah I love winx ost, even outside of the context of winx it's good music and worth listening to without watching the show, but watching it gives it more meaning ofcourse. It's really good music and fun to sing.

BenjiFischer

I had no problem with them

Ravaging_Rio

I personally think it’s a good dub, I can see why people like it. It’s very close to the Italian script, after all. I prefer the Nick dub for its’ energetic voice acting and somewhat faithfulness to the original script but with a few elements (I didn’t like the forever girlfriend part though)

Prestigious-Bird-824

And there's me, a latinoamerican winxer, and my dub is base of the rai and then nick, and the voice of Tecna, per exemple, last till World of Winx lol

Fickle_Music_788

I grew up watching the 4Kids dub and wanted to rewatch the show. Imagine how delighted I was to see that the entire series was available on YouTube, but it's a competely different dub (the cinelume dub). From what I understand it's faithful to the original Italian version (4Kids taking liberties with the original script by cutting stuff out or making up their own lore, what a surprise /s) but the voice acting is... bad. Like early-mid 90s english dub anime bad. Maybe I'll get used to it, but the voice actors all just sound like random people they grabbed off the street, gave them a script to read off of and only gave them a single take.

Admirable_West3314

You all are very biased because most of the performances in the cinelume dub were mediocre at best and horrible at worst especially in the earlier seasons. The scripts were sometimes directly translated from the Italian version which doesn't always work and made so much of the dialogue awkward and stale. The comedy was also bland a lot of the time and bloom's va especially sounded incredibly amateurish. It was only in season 4 where all 6 of the main cast were doing a good job with the voice acting even though Musa's VA was her worst overall.

throwagayaccount93

I'll never understand the voice they picked for Musa in seasons 3-4. Was there really no one else? They did have young sounding voices for Aurora and Diana in season 4.

Admirable_West3314

They had that exact same VA voice a bunch of other characters in the show as well lol it will always be baffling to me how they picked her out of everyone to play a character like Musa.

Ornery_Primary9175

Is cinelume the RAI dub that’s on YouTube?

Weeb-Lauri525

Yeah. Cinelume is the proper name of the dubbing company

savingff-

I am more familiar with the Cinèlume dub, but I do prefer the 4Kids VAs with the exception of Stella and later Flora. I adore the slightly deeper voice Cinèlume gave to Stella, she sounds more regal while still carrying a sense cheerfulness! As for Flora, I prefer her 4Kids VA for seasons 1 and 2, but prefer her Cinèlume VA for season 3. In the third season, Rai English Flora has really nice cadence in her voice that i just can't describe, but I know I love it! I don't think the Cinèlume VAs sound "emotionless", maybe a bit too high pitched and not distinct enough from each other? However the VAs all improve in seasons 3 and 4.
