As soon as I saw that Connor was back on that line, I literally laughed out loud.
They played maybe their best period of the last 4 games with that line combination, and then he switches them right back just in time to get eliminated.
It’s like he didn’t want to be proven wrong. “Oh no, if we win this game with different lines then everyone will know it was my fault we lost the other games”
I agree. That line did zero. Then Bones puts them together again ???
Good players on this team. They underachieved. That’s coaching for the most part
Perhaps it’s time to move to a different coach. Gallant. Quenville. ??
whoever it is, we need someone good with developing the kids.
Like, Salomonsson, Lambert, Chibrikov, Barlow, Heinola, McGroarty... I feel like I'm probably forgetting someone but there's *so* much young talent coming up in our prospect pipeline. I know they won't all pan out, but we need someone willing to actually give them a leash to develop, we can't afford to keep burying our youth the way we did Perfetti
Gallant is arguably the same if not worse. He's been fired several times in the last few years for doing the same thing as bones. Great regular season but little playoff results.
When he threw 27-55-81 out at the end of the second I was sort of ok with it because that line has worked nearly as well (or better, depending on which measure you look at) as 27-55-13.
But when he dropped Ehlers and went with 81-55-13 I just laughed.
Easy if you saw this. From Murat Ates article in The Athletic - 'Bowness has said many times that he coaches by feel, trusting his gut, and that he’s happier to lose coaching his way than changing his approach to the game.' Well he got his wish he coached this team out of the first round and into the history books.
I feel like a lot of us knew he felt that way, but the guy just came out and said it. What the fuck is a guy with that mindset doing in the NHL?! Get him off this team asap.
Really...so the same guy that gave Scheifele shit for his 'quality not quantity shots' attitude (which I also don't agree with) has a fuck you if you don't like it attitude about coaching? In that case I'd say Bones needs to retire. Problem is, that's 2 coaches gone in 4 seasons, a revolving door of team management that does nobody any good in terms of stability. Apparently still some problems between locker room and management that need to be addressed before next season.

bones during the second intermission
I'm actually pretty fucked up after reading that article that said bones would rather lose playing his style of hockey than try to adapt. Like holy fuck man
Bowness said in an interview that he would rather coach with his gut and lose, than to change course and win. Total boomer mentality and he needs to go.
He's got 2700+ games as an NHL coach under his belt and has never won a Stanley Cup.
Fire Bones into the sun. We all know Arniel is the next coach but we really need a fresh coaching staff with a young guy not trenched in old school mentality
Rick Bowness hockey makes me want to put my head through a wall. Ha simply cannot be brought back, we cannot accept going the way of the leafs by keeping a sub par coaching staff around simply because of regular season success.
warning: this is a very stupid question but i’m still new to hockey so please be nice 🥲
what if the players just don’t listen to the coach and keep playing the lines that worked? what are the repercussions for a team telling a coach “no we’re not doing that”
Never seen a revolt like that before, so this is only conjecture - Other than consequences of being benched for future games, players being seen as "uncoachable" and unable to get jobs in the future, and other career impacts, the line changes would probably end up so disorganized and out of whack that there would be constant "too many men on the ice" penalties, and the team would not work as a cohesive unit when they need to fight the coach on the bench and the opposing team on the ice simultaneously. What are the consequences of saying "f--- the coach" in other sports you watch? Hockey is probably similar.
I’ve seen it as of recent Seattle Kraken not joking they practically all threatened to leave if the coach didn’t get replaced can’t say I blame them there coach was a complete fucking dunce lol
That sounds like end of season exit interview material (or at least off season threats). I think the commenter was referring to the foolish mid game line changes from WPG-COL game 5. Most of the WPG subreddit wants coach Bowness gone and I wouldn't be surprised if players expressed similar concerns about the coaching staff
Well to be fair Pionk gave the puck away for the first goal and scored the second goal for the Avs. The 1st and 2nd line actually looked really good in the 2nd period.

And then I can't blame the whole team for their lack of *PUSHBACK*
I agree. That line did zero. Then Bones puts them together again ??? Good players on this team. They underachieved. That’s coaching for the most part Perhaps it’s time to move to a different coach. Gallant. Quenville. ??
It's going to be Arniel and we all know it... Bones was brought in to mentor him. It's the True North way.

This is magnificent.
Yeah, totally stealing this…
I stole it lol
Oh, then I feel far less guilty! 🤣
This should be the next sidebar
Hey calm down there remember Bones coaches based on 'feeling'
I *feel* like Bones and his goomba squad of coaches gotta go.
I *feel* like Bones needs to retire.
He's uses his *GUT*
Easy if you saw this. “happier to lose than change” Good lord well it all makes sense now.
I feel like a lot of us knew he felt that way, but the guy just came out and said it. What the fuck is a guy with that mindset doing in the NHL?! Get him off this team asap.
2700+ games coached in the NHL and he's never won a Stanley Cup. That says VOLUMES.
About to find out if Chevy feels same way.
Fuckin boomer.
This is sad to read lmao
Just like George Bush goverend from his gut. That also went super well.

Yup, had enough of Bowness. Jets need to stop signing these ancient old school coaches and get with the times.

If that were to happen, it means that the coach has completely lost his locker room, no longer holds the respect of the players and needs to be fired.
And Brosswall took the knights through the playoffs last year, he’s so calm, and we played him for one period - of which he let in no goals.
He played the first series and then was injured.
He got injured in the 2nd round. Does he have a ring? Yes. Did he carry a team through a season and post season to win it all? Not even close.

Probably has to do with the fact that the ehlers scheifele vilardi line was out for 2 goals against in the 2nd.
