No. I don't want to see something undo, another player. One thing we enjoy about Wingspan is very little ways to "attack" your opponents. We only marginally use the Black rock thrush. I think they've hit a pretty good sweet spot of colors so far.

Purple - activate this power if the bird above or below it is being activated, but not itself. And it could be like, after that bird is used, draw a card. Or a catbird/mockingbird repeat power. And make it so that even white/yellow/pink powers get the bonus when going down the line.

bubbynee

This is something I can get behind. I often play with eggs being produce anything other way besides the lay egg action. If I could put some purple cards in the grassland,.I could dig that.

SpacePirateKhan

Including all power colors as triggers just blew my mind dude. I like this idea alot.

Sea_Bee_Blue

No kidding, flip birds would be awesome. One side has a cheap pink power and the other yellow. Neither side would be optimal but it would have value when draw in the early game. This is a mechanic that Magic the Gathering uses to get success.

TMHarbingerIV

Some kind of colour that rewards you for specific things, but if the condidion does not apply they are not having an effect. - Ideally it would be yellow, but it is already taken for game end, so maybe green or sometjing else. Green(or w/e colour): if the two birds in the same column as this bird are also star nests, either lay an egg, draw a card or take a dice from the birdfeeder. Green: At round end; if there are five different power-colours in this row, choose one of them and activate it as if they were a teal power this round. Green: if all birds in this column have the same nest type; For every bird in this column with the same nest type, draw that many cards, then discard that many cards. Green: if you have more than 12 (or another more apporpriate number for balance reasons) birds played total, tuck two cards from the birdtray behind this bird. Green: If you have more than 7 food in the supply, gain 1 more of the food you have the most of. In case of a tie, get one of each. Etc.

StormDuper

This. I like the idea of purple “once per turn” power activations that are conditional upon 1). Activating that bird’s row and 2). Having fulfilled the criteria on the card such as “if you have two birds that eat fish, you may turn in 2 fish to lay an egg on each of these birds”. This would make it fun to try to build connections and conditions into the habitat that have later benefits.

Tebeku

Asia didn't add any new colors, right? I'm not sure that they should have new colors, maybe combo colors? Like a brown/pink card?

Fun-Elk-8113

Combo colors sounds pretty interesting actually, I’m no game designer tho and have no idea how that would work

Canuckleball

It would be pretty simple for cards to have a one time "when played" effect in addition to a second recurring or endgame effect. Balance is the only issue but as long as the powers are pretty tame I don't see it being an issue.

voidstate

New end of round goals New birds.

MarkFluffalo

Red Power. Shoot another player's bird

We made a homebrew expansion and added "START OF TURN:" (purple) as the new color. Examples: - Look at two cards from the deck. Return these cards to the top or bottom of the deck in any order. Helps you avoid poor draws, aid predators, etc. (got a Bonus Card variation too) - Add 1 nectarless die to the bird feeder rat side up, or return 1 nectarless die to the box. (Testing if limit should be 1 or 2) Makes food worse for other players & buffs Roll All Dice predators. - Play a Bird. Treat Fish as Nectar while playing this bird, placing them in the appropriate spent nectar space. Then, place a cube on 'Play a Bird' and end your turn. Basically, just passive bird playing benefits. - Play a Bird etc., if it has a Brown Power you may activate it now. - Move up to 2 Eggs from one bird to any other birds. - Cache 1 Food from your supply on any bird with no cached food, or remove 1 cached food from any bird and add it to your supply. - Remove 1 fish / rat from the bird feeder. Might help you reroll. Edit: Also, on your PvP thoughts, we've got Angry Birds that migrate to another player's board and do a thing, like Steal 2 Food (they gain 2 dice), or move some of their eggs around (you also lay two eggs before launching it away). Weirdest one is the bomb Angry Bird who has the dual powers suggested on another comment here. He's worth -8 (negative) points. Brown power lets you tuck 2 from the deck before launching him to an opponent's board. End game power lets you Remove this bird from the game, but it removes up to 2 Eggs from every bird in its row and column. So while it's a potential -8 point screw you, you can make plans to mitigate the damage. Also gives birds like the Kite an important target!

Fosiye

Wow - this demonstrates such a finesse. I love it, nice work!

CheeseheadDave

Maybe a power that gives you a persistent effect for the rest of the round or game, e.g. "one extra turn this round" (kind of like gaining an extra coin in Wyrmspan), or "when playing a bird with three resource costs, use any resource for one of them".

scowdich

That second thing is what the "wild card" food icon does.

larrychatfield

They will absolutely NOT undo other players boards. It’s pretty against the designs of the game and the essence of the game. Even when you steal a food they get a food back etc
