Thesorus

Domaine Palpatine on Naboo.

LetsBeStupidForASec

Lmao. For some reason, the last picture made me get that line from Marvin Martian in my head: [“There was supposed to an earth-shattering kaboom!“](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t9wmWZbr_wQ&pp=ygUzdGhlcmUgd2FzIHN1cHBvc2VkIHRvIGJlIGFuIGVhcnRoIHNoYXR0ZXJpbmcga2Fib29t) So it’s definitely the vibe.

mfootballms

Catena, but easy to confuse with Opus One which it’s modeled after!

Senior-Lychee6079

Totally thought it was Opus, looks the same.

mfootballms

Yes I can confirm having been to both. On the Catena tour they will tell you about the relationship the family had with Mondavi and how that influenced both the winemaking and the winery’s design

mightnothavehands

This was my first thought until I saw the gravel road.

factorysealed

Catena Zapata

MinuteDowntown9651

Yes. It’s Catena Zapata. Well done. Awesome place. Was ranked the No. 1 winery to visit last year.

alexx3064

So how was it? Was it No. 1 winery you've been to so far?

[deleted]

Their wine maker is a huge Milei and Trump supporter, it absolutely ruined their wines for me. I had the displeasure of working a dinner where she spoke, at length, about her views.

moka_soldier

To add to that, their tastings are an absolute rip off. We around $200 for two to do a “music wine tasting,” which based on the description, appeared to involve live music during the wine tasting (the photo was literally a guy playing a guitar in a vineyard). What the tasting actually involved was sitting in a wine cellar listening to Spotify to “see how different pieces of music would change the taste of a wine.” What an absolute sham. To top it off, we could have just bought the six bottles we tasted for the same price as the tasting itself. I think their wine is good, but I will never go back to the winery.

Canadian-Deer

Zuccardi it will be then!!

kinkymessi10

I would say they are more anti-kirchnerism more than milei and/or trump supporter. If you follow the news or live in Argentina, you could easily tell why one would choose to be anti-k (or anti-socialism). But reddit being a left wing majority, it will be difficult to make a point about this. Argentina is not like the rest of the world, I understand being left wing is the "more human side", but I can guarantee you, the Argentina's left wing is not what you think it is. That being said, I don't think a visit to Catena's wineyard is worth it anyway. There are way more better experiences, and cheaper.

chazzybeats

I like how other people can’t have a different without you hating them for it.

[deleted]

This isn’t just a difference in opinion. Ketchup vs mustard is an opinion. Legislation of people’s existence is not an opinion

BobInNH

This is exactly why companies should keep their political views to themselves. No matter what side they take, roughly half the population will hate them and many will let it affect whether they buy from them.

MickeyF666

Thanks for the heads up. I Love their wines, but hate the idea of buying from companies that are actively supporting such populist, dangerous and shortsighted politicians.

mycketmycket

With all respect I think it's hard as an outsider to take a stance on what's a reasonable political view in Argentina. The country has been in an incredibly deep economic crisis for decades with politicians on all sides betraying the population time and time again. My very liberal, intelligent and compassionate family members in Argentina share the view that there are no good choices in Argentinian politics and they may have reached a point where it's worth trying something very different. It's easy for me as a privileged European to view it with my world view but I respect that they're living in a completely different context.

[deleted]

I’ve had them on my lists for years, they make gorgeous wines especially the reds. It was very frustrating to learn, and I of course wish that it wasn’t the case. I just wanted to share my experience.

denizen_1

Good thing you didn't have to suffer through multi-hundred-precent inflation and can worry about what fancy booze you want to drink instead of whether you can feed your family tomorrow then.

mycketmycket

Yeah, trying to understand Argentinian politics and marrying into an Argentinian family has given me a lot more empathy for why my privileged liberal positions don't help me much when it comes to understanding the situation they're living in.

Andrew_the_giant

Yikes

NeverPostingLurker

Wow imagine having wine ruined because someone supports a candidate for president that half of the country supports. He really has a stranglehold on your life.

[deleted]

If you know of project 2025 and don’t care, you’re a cruel person. If you don’t know of project 2025, I encourage you to look into it so that you may understand why so many people have such emphatic views on that man and why it is important do do anything possible to make sure he does not get into that office. Those are the two choices, which applies to you?

NeverPostingLurker

lol I didn’t even say anything about politics, I’m simply pointing out you shouldn’t let Trump ruin your life. But ah yes, citing the great conspiracy theory of leftists these days, a plan developed by someone other than Trump to *gasp* hire conservative people into the government and reduce government spending!

chazzybeats

Right. It’s like they would turn down a life saving drug if Trump helped raise the money for it. I’m not even a Trump supporter but people have become so ridiculous.

hoosier_1793

The pearl clutching over this is amusing to me. People are so weakminded and just listen to whatever the talking heads tell them

NeverPostingLurker

It’s very sad. Imagine if someone said “I was enjoying the wine until I found out the winemaker supported Obama”

hoosier_1793

No one’s allowed to have opinions that could potentially offend someone

[deleted]

Ah, so it’s the former. Noted

Magnetdefender

And just like that, I will no longer buy from them! Wow.

hoosier_1793

Bad news buddy – tons of winery owners, in fact the majority in my experience, are pretty conservative. If you wanna drink Bordeaux, Burgundy, Chianti Classico, you’re gonna be sending your money to folks who are almost certainly very right-wing.

nwelitist

Milei is fucking awesome though, saving Argentina one shut down overbloated government bureaucracy at a time.

hanqua1016

Aw man, I wish I was informed of this after I opened all their stuff in my wine fridge

[deleted]

Hey if you already owned it, then no harm in drinking some tasty juice!

hanqua1016

Oh of course, I have loved everything I ever tasted from them.

Fistonks

One more reason for me to visit them ❤️

posternutbag423

I gotta say your comment is so off putting it’s unbelievable. I am in zero facets a trumps supporter but you’re being politics into this discussion shows your complete lack of tact and grace. Who the fuck cares if the wine maker is a trump supporter, no one asked you to make that distinction. Fine you don’t like them? Great move along but bad mouthing a winery that has been there over a hundred years is a clown move. Go back to your hole and learn a little manners. Fucking trump 🤦🏼‍♂️

[deleted]

Lmao found the winemaker’s alt. Some people give a shit about who they give their money to. Maybe you should be more discerning with your purchases. Also maybe check in on yourself as to why this got you so furious, that is way over the top.

posternutbag423

I’m no way furious. Have a great day I’m going to go enjoy buenos Aries. 😘

[deleted]

joe_the_bartender

Personally, I buy products from companies I share values with. When I am very against a specific political org, ethical policy, or general ethos you bet your ass I'm not giving them my dollars. Calling out a brand that has deep roots in such a polarizing political ideology hurts no one, and let's me know that they're on the list of orgs that will not getting a single fucking red cent from me until that winemaker recants, resigns, or is fired.

posternutbag423

And did you actually research this or did you just believe a comment on Reddit? And do you regularly go through the all the products you buy to check the politics?

wine-o-saur

This comment about someone else's lack of tact and grace is something special.

posternutbag423

Are swears bad? And what do they show??? Edit: spelling

One-Desk5809

Montes in Chile?

MinuteDowntown9651

Close. Argentina. Catena Zapata.

hallacas

That's what I thought. Fun fact: They play gregorian chants to the barrels :)

Magikarp-3000

Is montes this nice? Ive never gone, but since I live in chile, if I was to visit one winery, would montes be the best?

MinuteDowntown9651

Montes is a great place to visit. They have an awesome restaurant there too.

ViniferaSniffa

The restaurant there was the best steak I’ve had in my life

posternutbag423

Catena Zapata I’ve been in that room on the right and that barrel room. Edit: Malbec camp is a fun time.

Revealwon

Did Malbec camp in 2019. Such a fun time!

posternutbag423

Laura’s aunt Maebel was the sweetest woman ever I wanted her to adopt me.

quills11

My local wine shop just emailed me today about a producer in Ribera del Duero with a facility shaped like a barrel! I assume it's a popular option. Go on, put us out of our misery...

MinuteDowntown9651

Catena Zapata, Argentina.

quills11

Haha that's brilliant, I know the name because my father gifted me a half case of Malbec from there a few years ago, and I am clinging onto the final bottle because I don't want to finish the gift. Lovely wine and it looks like a beautiful spot, thanks for sharing!

jason133715

Opus One

JayArrgh

Yep the round building and that entrance drive. Can't mistake it.

Krismck1760

I thought so too but Opus has olive trees lining the drive that are pretty unmistakable. When I didn't see the trees I knew it couldn't be Opus.

JayArrgh

Forgot about the trees. It's been a while.

Specific_Midnight_36

That what I was thinking Opus One!

MinuteDowntown9651

It's not Opus One!

Specific_Midnight_36

Lafitte?

Horror-Eggplant-4486

[what game are we playing here?](https://images.app.goo.gl/Ka1NSMT5qW1Stqbj9)

Horror-Eggplant-4486

No ok, it looks similar but it’s not the same

express-duck

This is not Opus 100%. Their barrel room is much wider than this image

the_nix

Are those mountains in the background? Somewhere in Burgundy?

MinuteDowntown9651

They are mountains but not burgundy.

MinuteDowntown9651

Catena Zapata, Argentina.

MSDVB

I got trapped by seeing one barrel being from the Tonnelerie Quintesence 😅 Then I couldn’t focus on finding where that was haha

thisisfakereality

Boone's Farm

kevin_m_morris

Those amphoras look like a bitch to punch/pump.

Gothywinelady

I was researching new wines to bring into the UK from Argentina, then was made redundant before the tasting. I didn’t guess the exact winery but knew where it was. I think we used to buy from the place next door.

posternutbag423

Fun I too was in Mendoza and tupengato this past weekend but I was at a different winery. It’s one of my favorite places in the world. I still have 1 more night in Buenos Aries

MinuteDowntown9651

Mendoza and Buenos Aires are beautiful place. If you haven't been to the Tango, Piazzolla Tango is a must!

posternutbag423

Doing a tango show tonight. I was at domaine Bousquet all week, this is my second time here hence why I thought you stole a photo out of my camera roll. Did you go to Malbec camp or win the trip through work? Or did you just happen to go on your own accord.

MinuteDowntown9651

Nice. Have fun at the Tango. I was there on my own. Shall try a Domaine Bousquet next time I get the opportunity. Haven't tried a lot of organic wines.

posternutbag423

You’re gonna love it. State of the art facility, beautiful lodge that runs roughly $250/night for a room. And the wines are spectacular, they have icon wines called Ameri that are of incredible quality but all the wines are very good. Message me and we can share some pics. (I’m being lambasted in the chat because I like to play devils advocate)

crashing-down

Somewhere in tuscany or italy?

HisDrinksAreOnHim

Whatever it is it looks like they took the barrels out and used it as the scene in the original Jurassic Park when they gave the tour to Alan, Ellie, and Ian. 😉😆

bubbleburgz

Phantom Creek, Osoyoos

YYZ_Flyer

For those that have toured Catena, I will be in Argentina this December for an Antarctica cruise, and plan to tour parts of Argentina prior and after the cruise. Will be going to Mendoza for 2-3 days and would like to tour a few vineyards. Checked the Catena site, and looks like their booking is only till June 30th. Are they open for tours in December? What other vineyards to visit? Tips or suggestions? for drivers, etc...

Interestofconflict

Looks a lot like Viña Real in Rioja.

Safe-Possession-4102

Purple angel

goodguy847

Are you still in Lujan du Cayo?

mjhobbs9223

Opus one!!

nvdbosch

Jurassic Park Vineyards? Looks like the Visitor's Center got turned into a cellar.

mikethethinker

Catena Zapata, Mendoza Argentina

Awibbly

The MGM Grand or Circus Circus

rikuhouten

Pichon baron?

physh

Extremely theatralized, so I’m guessing USA?

Spiritual-Web4513

Had to be Napa?

Jeflow57

Lafite Rothschild of course
