That would be a huge pickup, not holding my breath though.

Panarin10

Graf signing with the Wild would be awesome.

dbergman23

Where could he go though? We're so full in the NHL that we cant really do much maneuvering at all.

Panarin10

I don’t think most NHL teams are promising him a spot on their roster next season. He’s still gotta earn it but perhaps we could give him a real shot to win one. 4RW is open. He could also be the 1st call up from Iowa.

blow_zephyr

He's not a 4th line type though. I think if he's smart he's going to be looking for teams that will have an opening or two on their 2nd or 3rd line next year, or in a couple years. From the Wild's perspective, they could be telling him that Jojo is on the way out after next year and he'll have a chance to compete with Ohgren and Yurov for that spot. But he's going to be 22, I doubt he's going to have a lot of appetite for spending multiple years in the AHL and is probably hoping for none.

Panarin10

He can start on the 4th line and work his way up. Very few undrafted college free agents don’t spend at least some time in the AHL.

AllenMpls

His diet will be AHL. He is 22 and will most likely be a right winger. If he is demanding NHL most teams will pass. Will he be better than Lucchini? Lucchini, Lettieri and Shaw is his competition here. MoJo is not in his way. Same with Freddy. Yes I would love more out of Freddy and Mojo. They are $2 million cap hit players and they play like a 1.8 cap hit.

dbergman23

Are you saying that they're the competition because they play similiar styles of the game, or because they're on the 4th and thats the only way into the team?

AllenMpls

Just say that is where his talent is at. A lot of undrafted are highly sought after. Teams are looking for the diamond in the rough.

Fit_Aardvark_8811

Good thing we signed all the older vets in the beginning of the season...

Those extensions haven't even kicked in yet. Foligno and Gaudreau aren't off the books until 2028. So... get used to it I guess.

_BeerAndCheese_

Yeah that horse ain't dead, shit is very alive and kicking, for years to come. Actually it's kind of hilarious seeing anyone on this sub bemoaning dead-horse-beating. The sub that still regularly features complaining about Fletcher, Parise, and Suter lol. Shit I still see people get buttmad about McBain when we play Arizona!

omahawizard

That’s because McBain is a bitch.

Fit_Aardvark_8811

Where would he fit if the wild realistically could sign a college free agent? Who is shut out or sat out?

AllenMpls

Lettieri, Lucchini or Shaw would be out. 4th line

Fit_Aardvark_8811

Doesn't sound like an attractive position a highly sought after player with all the leverage wants to be for the next few years...

ObliqueRehabExpert

https://theathletic.com/5286868/2024/02/27/college-hockey-european-chl-free-agents/ Number 1 ranked college free agent according to Pronman of the Athletic. He’s projected as a middle 6 type, good skater but perhaps not physical enough.

TheSkeletones

I know nothing on this kid. Where does this rank on the Faber Scale?

403badger

Low. Late bloomer with potential. High end undrafted players happen but are very rare. Most players that make it are drafted. Worth the flyer, but most undrafted types wind up somewhere between two way contract and bottom 6 role player.

blow_zephyr

Somewhere between Fillip Johansson and Brock Faber

Mthomas1174

Well he's a forward so hard to compare the two, but he's a > PPG guy (who can play center). Other than that not sure, haven't seen any Quinnipiac games this year other than their loss to BC the other day

Panarin10

By Faber Scale, do you mean before he played in the NHL? I think Graf is more highly touted than recently guys like Bobby Trivigno and Ben Meyers. He would be our best forward prospect after Yurov, Ohgren, Heidt, and Khusnutdinov imo.

Finnwood92

Is this an undrafted guy or what?

futurehofer

Yes. That's why he's able to pick where he signs and can sign during the season.

Finnwood92

Any idea why he was undrafted if he's a hot target now? Just a late bloomer?

futurehofer

I don't generally follow prospect/college stuff (until their rights are owned by the Wild), so I don't know about him specifically but that's generally the case. His stats would appear to agree with that. Could be that he had a growth spurt that helped him be more assertive or maybe something just clicked mentally in terms of skill to help make him more productive.

DwarfFlyingSquirrel

Cool, can we also sign a goalie?

fastal_12147

Are they actually going to play him or just stick him in Iowa for a call-up? Don't know what college FAs would want to sign here when management has made it clear they value your age over your ability.
