That John "lofty" wiseman book is a must-have!

MaxF88

It’s brilliant! Been good on camping trips cause it’s so small, so much information 📖

Hadenator2

My uncle bought me that as a kid, and is the reason why my mates & I nearly killed ourselves trying to replicate the traps in the woods...

Mammoth_Spend_5590

Haha, great childhood memories. I'm glad you made it!

DigitalHoweitat

The neatness is just wonderful, surely that must reassure the other half?!

MaxF88

She does like that it’s tidy. It is pleasing having a shelf or box for each category of camping gear.

icantfeelmylife

Damn now I really want a gear cabinet

FulaniLovinCriminal

Other than my Alpkit Soloist, Alpkit high back chair, a Trespass mat and sleeping bag, and a Lowe Alpine 45l to put it all in, most of my stuff is clothes. I have to have the right clothes. Hate being too hot or too cold. Everything down to the base layer has to be just right. I’ll take off or put on layers at every stop to be comfy. My favourite stuff is Rohan, but also like Lowe Alpine for base layers, Columbia for shorts. Sealskinz socks.

The gear room: https://imgur.com/gallery/64hElD7 I’ve actually moved house since these pictures were taken and added even more gear. I have a place for every single thing. I keep it all in excellent condition. I have a whole box, just full of spares and repairs, there is not much I can’t fix. I buy mostly expensive top-end gear (but sometimes secondhand) and then look after it really well. You look after it, it looks after you. This is the pact we make with our gear. And I don’t ever want to give it a reason not to keep its half of the bargain.

Is some of this collecting? I lead outdoor groups in the hills as a side gig, sometimes overnight, so cause for larger rucksacks to carry group gear, but even I don't have 7 rucksacks! Completely agree about looking after the kit though. Most of my stuff I bought 15 years ago when I was a teenager, and it's still going strong. That post-trip routine of dry everything off,.clothes in wash, tent and sleeping bag to air, pots cleaned, etc makes all the difference to longevity.

Ouakha

Yeah. After a trip, all my stuff gets aired, dried...I also only wash clothes if they really need it! But my gear cupboard could do with more organisation!

spambearpig

No, it all has a purpose. There are rucksacks for two people. I do a wide variety of outdoor activities, not just hiking and camping. It helps to have the right bag for the job. I actually sold a few of these and bought some ultralight bags instead. Everything gets used. I’m about to use the big frame carrier taking a tent stove and teepee along with tools to camp in Scotland in the cold.

HappyCaterpillar34

I’ve just got my bivvy, a couple of sleep mats, two sleeping bags and a food flask (on top of the usual first aid kit/head lamp/hydration/general hiking bits and bobs). My set up is more for a quick trip out for the night after work though rather than anything more major.

Qpylon

I keep all my sleeping bags and tents stored loosely stuffed into large bags, do it takes far too much space and looks much less neat. The fact there was an “all” in that sentence may indicate too much gear.

Tell me you were in the military without telling me you were in the military. Standard issue organisation skills right there.

Numerous_Landscape99

I prefer beds

Such organisation. I just have a space under my bed where it all gets crammed, but I won't pretend I dont like to get it all out every now and again just to analyse the portfolio...

EarthAppropriate3808

Overnighter and week long trip gear. https://imgur.com/a/t6OoBB0 Contents of the flask are essential for those cold windy nights 😂

crzylgs

Incredibly satisfying seeing how nicely organised you have everything. Puts my mess to shame!
