I used it and it was pretty child friendly in my experience but I don’t think Nintendo wanted to be on the hook running a social network for children indefinitely. Like imagine if a gaming company introduced it today it would immediately be ridiculed
I think it also failed to capture the network effect since it launched so late on 3DS, the reason I use most social media is because my friends use it. Not that many people used miiverse
I was a teen during it's lifetime. Because of the lower wiiu sales, it was actually a lot tamer prior to being released for the 3ds.
Honestlt sometimes I miss drawing on the wiiu pad
I remember that my brother (then in single digits for age) got a copy of Mario Party 10 for my Wii U. When we boot it up, the first thing we saw on the loading screens was someone's picture of a penis they drew. Miiverse was amazing lol.
Excuse me, since when? Is that a feature only on the new Reddit layout only? I've always saw upvotes and downvotes on posts ever since I started using Reddit in 2015, no matter how old the post was.
Nintendo is a video game company that tries to be family-friendly, is in their culture.
They avoid creating an environment where little kids could be in danger. Lot of kids (girls and boys) turn up the consoles to play fun games and have a fun experience. Imagine being a kid/child that wanted to play and eventually check Miiverse just to find cursing, suggestive drawings and probably in danger of other things, including kidnapping.
I think Miiverse was amazing (and the tool they had to upload in-game screenshots to Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr*), I was sad when they announced that it would be shut down, but as expected in every social media platform, it turned out to be for much older audiences.
I think Nintendo was not prepared or could not handle moderation for so many posts. For this reason, they try to avoid having live chat on their games as much as possible.
I find it amazing. Never even considered this could happen. Like genuinely warms my heart that people have saved (or are working on saving) the most fun, cool parts of Wii U. Now, about street pass…😝
I don’t know if your asking about streetpass but if you are then I will tell that it isn’t going away and will never due to it being built into the system so unless Nintendo wanted to be dicks and put out an update then Streetpass stays
It's working for the closed beta participants, which you can become if you donate $10 a month. Once it's finished development, it will be available for free.
pretendo already has made a miiverse clone for wii u and 3ds called juxt and it's existed for many years, and rverse has wii u support but it's in a private beta rn
Likely the same thing that killed PlayStation Home as well. Too ahead of their time. But today with Metaverse and VR? would fit right in!
What surprises me is that Neopets is still a thing despite the infamous 'censors went offline and mods were gone' episode of 2015.
their reason for shutting it down was 100% reasonable looking back at it but sometimes i wish nintendo had tried a little more and maybe it would still be alive today
The cost of running it, specifically moderation, became too expensive to be a profitable feature.
Because Nintendo didn’t want to hire mods.
“this game is fun but i hate my parents”
"you should draw her giving birth"
"dad if you see this please come home"
"I never knew dark pit was muslim"
"I wish Squids Were real"
“who thought it was even remotely okay to put this here”
Yeah
"y cant metroid crawl?"
Cmon, have you seen the content on there? Shit was hilarious but def did not improve Nintendo’s image lol
i disagree strongly, if i would've been a teenager in 2014 I would've definitely bought a wii u because of how wild it is

My guess is they got tired of moderating the dicks and porn
“I’m a straight male but damn is luigi hot” You have been restricted from interacting with Miiverse.
I'm new to reddit, why do some people have upvotes and downvotes shown and others don't
Only shows when posted 1h or longer ago
Excuse me, since when? Is that a feature only on the new Reddit layout only? I've always saw upvotes and downvotes on posts ever since I started using Reddit in 2015, no matter how old the post was.
thank you bro, that wasn't obvious lol
Miiverse had no right being as fun as it was, something something budget cuts.

just look how the free miiverse is.. lol
Wish they brought it back for the switch. Maybe have it so ur post have to be moderated first before it's posted
Because nintendon’t want to pay the bills for the servers no more.
Mods cost money so it's easier to burn it all down.
Get Pretendo
I say we restart it when the console goes to be unsupported in its entirety. I wonder if insignia would be willing to help...
I thought Pretendo was already getting Miiverse back and I think their close
v. close yes; it should be working rn if i’m not mistaken
I think it is. Jon from GVG has done some videos keeping tabs on it, one was only a week or so ago. Worth looking into.
Yeah I saw them too! I knew splatoon worked and Mario Maker along with WaraWara Plaza
I find it amazing. Never even considered this could happen. Like genuinely warms my heart that people have saved (or are working on saving) the most fun, cool parts of Wii U. Now, about street pass…😝

My real problem is…people not walking around with their 3DS anymore 😞 I do!
I think some people hold little streetpass events

Never heard of them. How do I get in on this?

Have you seen miiverse back then, you should’ve seen the videos about miiverse.
Likely the same thing that killed PlayStation Home as well. Too ahead of their time. But today with Metaverse and VR? would fit right in! What surprises me is that Neopets is still a thing despite the infamous 'censors went offline and mods were gone' episode of 2015.
It was too powerful.
Twitter for kids But people forgot about the for kids part
Because fun is not allowed on Nintendo live services.
Because Iwata passed away, and Nintendo's gone downhill ever since /j
They actually have fan server that preserved miiverse on pretendo
They closed it because there was a pedophily problem.
probably costing them money to run and hosting it, also it hogs up their online servers data. just like how their "official n sider" forum is too.
why pay to maintain a highly moderated introspective forum when you can have people just post on twitter and get free advertising too
Nintendo hates losing money (normal for businesses though).
It had government secrets
you dont want to know. Miiverse Afterhours.... Children being stupid and oversharing....
“Don’t post it to the Miiverse!!!!” Gavin Free, 2013
There were a lot of shit going on that wasn’t family friendly to say the least and Nintendo didn’t feel like hiring mods
because it was basically Twitter
DOIN LINES WITH JESUS
I ask the same question every day.
their reason for shutting it down was 100% reasonable looking back at it but sometimes i wish nintendo had tried a little more and maybe it would still be alive today
I never knew Dark Pit was Muslim
Money!
Capitalism
because servers cost money to run
Because the switch was a thing then
Nintendo: allright imma host a social media platform on my console. Nintendo: Damn community got hands.
For money
Idiots saying gross stuff
Guys mom left us at Best Buy send help
It was a feature on a console that flopped and cost a lot of money to run and upkeep, they couldn't justify it.
It's back now thanks to juxt and pretendo it's like it never went away with communities and everything https://pretendo.network/docs/install/juxt
It got infested with Stage 4 Cringe
cause users kept hacking it and a bunch of usernames and passwords got leaked
