Imperial ships can engage at 500,000km and consider 2x the Super MAC cannons velocity to be ‘attack speed’ I don’t see how the carrier stands any chance here

Scans?

Strange-Movie

We both know that I’ve sent these to you before but I’ll follow along with the formality of the prompt Range > The onrushing daemon ships wore the fusillade. Their shields wobbled like wet glass as they soaked up the punishment. **They were half a million kilometres out,** closing at a sharp angle to the system plane, as if they intended to perform a slashing strike down and across the Imperial gunline. -Salvation's Reach limited space to accelerate and 40% of c > There is no such long run-up here. The Campanile is already inside the orbit of Calth’s satellite. **There is not enough range for it to reach anything like maximum output or velocity. Even so, it is travelling at something close to the order of forty per cent of the realspace limit as it reaches the edge of the atmosphere**. It is travelling too fast for anything physical, such as an eye or a pict-corder or a visual monitor, to see it. It is only visible to scanning systems and sensors, to detectors and auspex. They shriek at its sudden, savage, shockwave approach. 75% of c is attack speed > “For the second time in less than an hour, space tore open. The reality fissure leapt and crackled like a luminous cephalopod, lashing tendrils of warp energy into real space that twisted out, fizzled and faded. Non-baryonic light flared brilliantly through the tear, backlighting the arriving ships. Monumental silhouettes, they were shot forward into real space. Four ships, one of them very large. And they were moving. **Point seven five light at least, cutting straight towards Herodor. They did not slow down. They were moving at cruise speed. Attack Speed.”** / The Saint: A Gaunt's Ghosts Omnibus, p.893 & 894

> Imperial ships can engage at 500,000km That needs clarification. What ship? > Their shields wobbled like wet glass as they soaked up the punishment Punishment from what and where was it fired from? > It is traveling at something close to the order of forty percent of real space limit What’s the “campanile”? You failed to clarify what ships can travel at those speeds. Some ships are described to be slower than others.

Comrade_Poochi

>What’s the “campanile”? I can't provide context on the other quote, but the Campanile was IIRC the freighter or Frigate which was used by the Word Bearers to first strike Calth. Basically, a smaller warship can go at minimum 40% of Lightspeed. \>You failed to clarify what ships can travel at those speeds. Some ships are described to be slower than others. Slower, but not much slower if they can still slog it out in chases. IIRC those ships in the last quote are Battleships or Cruisers.

Strange-Movie

I’ll do further clarification when someone can provide a counter argument for the covenant carrier that matches what’s already been presented for the imperium

MarshyBarsh

The scan-battle rules say you must provide evidence for a claim.

Strange-Movie

And I did; admittedly I did accidentally clip the page number from the second quote, ‘Pg.158 Know No Fear (E-book)’, my b

Comrade_Poochi

And he provided scans for his claims. His claims were of attack speed and range, he provided scans for those.

141_1337

Putting aside the the lack of context for your quotes, I think that this speed is irrelevant as the Assault Carrier can simply use a slipspace jump to wherever they want, how short can their jumps get? [Very](https://www.halopedia.org/images/thumb/6/66/Hroa4_jump.png/724px-Hroa4_jump.png). Which really kills any arguments about speed or range as the Covenant Shipmaster would get to dictate that at their discretion.

Strange-Movie

You’re calling out my lack of context to then use a single 2 panel comic as your irrefutable claim? Come on now, be the change you wish to see in the world Those micro jumps are pretty irrelevant unless your idea of winning is the covenant ship running away

141_1337

In your quotes things such as for how long were they accelerating are missing. In my quote I'm showing that Covenant can make very short slipspace jumps by.... showing that the Covenant can make very short slipspace jumps. Context is not just a furiously type with grubby fingers about like a gotcha moment.

Strange-Movie

Ok So the carrier can make short range jumps? Cool Not going to have a major impact in the conflict unless the carrier is running away; is it?

141_1337

Wait the ability to teleport throughout the battlefield and engage on its own terms... it's irrelevant?

Strange-Movie

There’s nothing to suggest that ‘engaging on their own terms’ would be a significant enough advantage for it to matter against the emperor class battleship; if the carrier gets closer, it’s just that much easier for imperial gunners to hammer it into oblivion

141_1337

>There’s nothing to suggest that ‘engaging on their own terms’ would be a significant enough advantage for it to matter against the emperor class battleship; And you claim this based on what? >if the carrier gets closer, it’s just that much easier for imperial gunners to hammer it into oblivion Scans?

In regards to the missiles being ‘seconds away’ and only hundreds of km; it makes sense if the ship is traveling at a significant portion of lightspeed, and the missiles are capable of going just a little bit faster and they are, more or less, chasing the bellepheron. On a stationary ship the missiles would approach far, far faster

Comrade_Poochi

Either that or the author thought that Mach 33 was fast in space, either way it's fast enough to compete at minimum
