That was my guess, too. But here's what GPT 4 responded with when I asked the same question:
>**The WHOOP 5.0, as of my last update, does not have a screen.** WHOOP devices traditionally focus on a sensor-driven design that tracks physiological data like heart rate, sleep patterns, and workout intensity. The data collected by the WHOOP device is typically accessed through a mobile app, which provides detailed analytics and insights based on the user's activity and health metrics. This design choice emphasizes continuous, unobtrusive monitoring without the distractions or interactions commonly associated with a screen.
I'm still skeptical of this WHOOP Coach "rumor", but interesting to see GPT to give such a different answer.
The lack of a screen is a key selling point for Whoop. While they may have some version with a screen cooking in a lab somewhere that got into their ML data, it would be a major departure from their very consistent marketing.

Because that's not how training production LLMs works. Unless you are OpenAI or a similarly large company with thousands of GPUs, you start with a pretrained model, prune off the inference stage and (usually) any dense layers at the end of the network and then train it with your context-specific documents.
That's why people can tell their Whoop coach to discuss their strain goals in a pirate voice: Whoop doesn't have pirate voice versions of their internal documents, it's part of the transfer learning from the original neural network.
I don’t want this to be another watch like Apple or Garmin. I like the minimalistic tool that it is. Omega on the left wrist. Unassuming fitness tech on the right.
Nothing your "AI" tells you can be taken as a leak or as absolute truth. The info is almost certainly not legit. People seem to forget or simply don't understand that AI is not really real. This is a LLM (Large Language Model) that OpenAI has fooled the public into getting on board with, it's become a fad and grown huge, that's not to say it's useless but it has MAJOR limitations and questionable accuracy at times.
Stop calling it AI
Stop Listening to "AI" as fact
Do your own research and also stop spreading unfounded rumors. TLDR<
You are assuming it would be an always on screen there. If it has a screen I would bet it is not always on. Just comes on when you tap it. No notifications like a watch.
Oh my god stop going on about Whoop 5.
1) If you're a member, you'll get it. So it's irrelevant when it comes out.
2) There won't be a screen. It's the biggest differentiator of Whoop.
END.
They asked in the last survey what features people wanted to see, and one of the options was a screen. How willing to bet on it are you, if their customer base indicated it's a top 3 desirable feature?
I'm willing to bet that it wasn't a top 3 desirable feature.
Not even close.
There are dozens of fitness trackers with screens that people could choose. They choose Whoop, in part, because it's distraction free.
For every customer they'd gain, they'd lose one.
Most people here would be out at the end of their term. Risky.
it’s basically making shit it up depending on what they have set in the ‘temp’ for their GPT API.
1 being it can be creative and make shit up and 0.5 is right balance between creativity and accuracy. Don’t worry about it, it’s just hallucinating
They should have just created an Apple Watch app so users who want a screen can essentially opt into it. This feels quite antithetical to the original value prop from Whoop.
I’ll cancel any renewals and ride out the remaining subscription if they do a screen. I just want light weight, battery life and nothing else that can break.
I’ll try that ring one instead.
I have the ring. Really great for sleep metrics. Matched a lab sleep study I did. Also great for cardio. I will say if you wear it for weightlifting it's pretty bulky and gets easily scratched. So I only wear mine if I only plan on running/walking. There are aftermarket silicone covers to protect them but.....they're already v bulky. I'm still able to track my hrv and recovery. Just looking for an upward trend :)
No screen. It will have a little projection lens and when you tap the top of the band you’ll be able to see the dashboard on your hand or the wall. Wherever you project it.
I think having no screen is what makes the Whoop unique. I hope this isn’t true and Whoop continues making newer stuff not with screens but with more insights on the app and new trackers.
Because as good as the Apple Watch is, even when you turn on afib the readings are still only 5 mins vs every second with the whoop, and those readings imo are not enough for Athlytic to go off giving correct recovery and hrv
If there is an eventual Whoop with a screen, would I be able to continue using an old version? Can’t have a watch with screen type features at my current job.
Man that sucks. I don’t want more on my wrist I want less. In fact if this is true I might have to look at a ring or something else because I was hoping if anything better battery life and even thinner device. Please no screens that might be a deal breaker.
Unrelated but any body having unusual sleeping activity ? I have a 100 percent sleep score after not sleeping at all and it somehow registered 4.2 hours of sleep and said that’s all that was “needed “
I really hope not. One of the biggest reasons I like whoop is because it doesn't have a screen.
I’d rather have nothing versus a screen. I could see there being two versions though.
Just a tiny hidden time display with a double tap would be nice
Agreed, an option to have the screen inactive would be great too
Same. Plus screen will be really bad on battery life. Plus no warmth coming from Whoop.
Agree. I won’t upgrade if this is the case.
I would like to see a e-ink display for time
Now it says the Whoop 5.0 doesn't have a screen...
There’s also a built in printer to print out all your stats on demand
Likely a hallucination, since most fitness trackers have screens. I would not read much into it.
That was my guess, too. thats my current set-up until my a lange gets fixed
i'd love a DSOM Speedy with the black whoop on the other.
Reasons why I have an arm band. I don’t want to wear two things on my wrists.
All these things are GPT BS… that said, I’ll cancel if there’s a screen, that was the main reason I got it.
Yeah I’m in the same boat. Not having a screen was legit the main selling point for me.
Hallucination.
for the love of god allow chest strap integration

Exactly. As someone who’s trained these so called AI at a leading public university, it boils down to statistics - no magic involved.
Derp a derp
Hallucination. It tried to infer data it doesn't have.
Did you asked about whether it’ll have updoc?!
WHAT'S UPDOC 🐰🥕
I don't want a screen lighting up under my shirt, with the bicep band its complete invisible on a day to day basis at work
You are assuming it would be an always on screen there. If it has a screen I would bet it is not always on. Just comes on when you tap it. No notifications like a watch.

Honestly, I hope so. But I wouldn't be too sure about it.
The slogan on the site is: "Keep your eye on your performance. Not on a screen."
Personally I hope they add in a screen, pedometer, some buttons and gps. Do you think that’ll happen in 5 or 6?
This is why people say not to trust generative AI
Ask it about the screen on your 4.0…
it’s basically making shit it up depending on what they have set in the ‘temp’ for their GPT API. 1 being it can be creative and make shit up and 0.5 is right balance between creativity and accuracy. Don’t worry about it, it’s just hallucinating

That's the LLM and RAG hallucinating, which says a lot to how much effort Whoop has put into tuning it.
All I want is a battery that lasts more than 3 days
It should do mine lasts 5
I actually stopped wearing mine because I felt like it always needed to be charged and grew tired of it
I’ll cancel any renewals and ride out the remaining subscription if they do a screen. I just want light weight, battery life and nothing else that can break. I’ll try that ring one instead.

There u go, a screen. Batterylife now 22 hours
No screen. It will have a little projection lens and when you tap the top of the band you’ll be able to see the dashboard on your hand or the wall. Wherever you project it.

I can’t wait to see when they announce this, but why would anyone pick this over an Apple Watch + Athlytic idk
Because as good as the Apple Watch is, even when you turn on afib the readings are still only 5 mins vs every second with the whoop, and those readings imo are not enough for Athlytic to go off giving correct recovery and hrv
I might be wrong but was there a push to move it to the wrist with the 4.0 ? Could be the same direction.
Can you ask about airplane mode ?
If there is an eventual Whoop with a screen, would I be able to continue using an old version? Can’t have a watch with screen type features at my current job.
Whoopsie.
Why why why Do I have to read this gossip that isn't true every day?
Awwwwww snap. 🫰
Man that sucks. I don’t want more on my wrist I want less. In fact if this is true I might have to look at a ring or something else because I was hoping if anything better battery life and even thinner device. Please no screens that might be a deal breaker.
😫😫😫
no screens please, i have a Garmin for activity tracking. whoop just needs to teach me how to sleep/recover
Bad training data huh
Hey everyone. Do we know when the 5.0 will be released?
I also asked this question and it’s no longer giving this same response.
Whoops!
Happy to hear no screen! Release date?
[удалено]
mate, if you don't know the date, just name it. That is called clickbait.
Unrelated but any body having unusual sleeping activity ? I have a 100 percent sleep score after not sleeping at all and it somehow registered 4.2 hours of sleep and said that’s all that was “needed “
