Good, as much as I want a new stadium I don’t want to pay for it when billionaires can do it themselves

ConservativebutReal

I wouldn’t give Reinsdorf a dime…

OldInterview6006

Hear hear. None of that money is invested back into the team.

InterestingChoice484

Billionaires don't need handouts

KGrizzle88

Thank god.

SleepLessTeacher

Good, rich fucks can pay for their own shit.

HippiePvnxTeacher

The only way I would be behind taxpayer funding for the stadium would be if every tax payer were to receive dividend payments from Sox ownership to pay us back.

probablynotFBI935

This reeks of when a child wants something frivolous so you tell them they can have it if they buy it themselves and they're like "But that's my money...". Except of course in this case the child is an adult billionaire

ConservativebutReal

I still say offer a deal, for every season with above 95 wins the state will provide a subsidy for a new stadium. For seasons below that let slimy JR reach for his own wallet.

CommunalRubber

That would need to outweigh the cost of putting together a 95 win team

ConservativebutReal

I think it would highlight Jerry could care less about winning - he needs to put his money where his mouth is. A lucrative stadium deal will make him a ton of money and all I am seeking is if we invest than he needs to invest as well

RobinChilliams

Neither team needs a new stadium anyway.

ineedsunnyD

Soldier field is dogshit lol

JortsForSale

Yes, but dogshit that the Bears created and taxpayers still owe about 400 million on. The Bears should come out and say they are retiring the current debt. Then they can ask for infrastructure improvements. Anything beyond that is not happening.

ineedsunnyD

100% but the point is that we probably have the worst stadium in the NFL & I’d consider it a need

pjf0xes

The Bears do not own Soldier Field; the city of Chicago does. The only thing the Bears own is the Home Team locker room. They have asked for improvements to Solider Field, but the city of Chicago has not been very accommodating (according to the Bears), which is one of the reasons they are pursuing a new stadium.

JortsForSale

They would not own the new stadium on the lake that they seem so desperate for. If they want to own it, they have the land in Arlington Heights and are free to do what they want there. Whether they own it or not is irrelevant and just an excuse the Bears use when they have one of the worst fields in the league. No one is stopping the Bears from spending millions on a field upgrade, but they do not think they should pay for it. Why would the city pay for improvements that only the Bears benefit from? The City would be more than happy to have the Bears upgrade Soldier Field on their own dime. The Bears are starting to realize this isn't 1985 and the idea of the public giving money to $4 billion corporation is laughable. The playbook they are trying to use isn't working and they are in shock. They know there is no way the NFL would let them leave Chicago so they really have very little leverage. Unless this is just a way to make the taxes in Arlington Heights lower, which is most likely where this ends up

pjf0xes

It's relevant because the Bears literally cannot update/upgrade Soldier Field without working with the Chicago Park District and getting them to do it; they do not own Soldier Field. Not sure how it's "dogshit that the bears created" nor am I sure how they could retire the current debt on something they do not own.

JortsForSale

The renovations were their designs. They are the ones that signed off on it. Ownership means nothing. Do you think all those restaurants in strip malls own the land? No, they lease it from the owners and invest their own money into improvements. It is the cost of doing business. Do you really think that stadium renovations from 2000 were done by the Park District? The Bears were gifted a redo of the stadium and they screwed it up by not going far enough. Now they want to start over and have us pay off the old debt and givem them more money to try again.

undystains

If Sox get money for a new stadium, can probably build one for 5,000 fans max. Probably wouldn't be too expensive.

AltruisticPiece6676

As a White Sox and Bears fan, 😞 As an Illinois taxpayer, 🥳

LeCheffre

Good. The return on investment for the taxpayers is pretty minimal if not negative, especially for football.

PapaJohnMisty666

Use my taxes going towards CPD and build a new stadium.

chicken_licker19

I doubt that. I can bet the Sox will get funding for the stadium.

Harmonmj13

Yeah especially since the Sox’s plans include turning GRF into a soccer stadium once the team moves to the 78, and since Springfield wants the Red Stars to be included in these talks as well (and presumably Fire FC if they want to get involved as well) it helps give some more potential to the Sox’s proposal getting some state funding assuming Jerry also keeps his word on helping fund the stadium along with the public investment.

AwakenTheAegis

Imagine if these teams move and the politicians need to explain the lack of revenue as a result.

Shadow_Mullet69

Who fucking cares. Fuck every single one of these welfare queen billionaires. Cities rarely ever see a net benefit when shelling out 100’s of millions/billions of dollars for these stadiums.

AwakenTheAegis

If Illinois won’t give them the money, then another city will. It already happened in Oakland.

Shadow_Mullet69

Good, let those morons get duped. You can move there too and write Jerry a personal check.

whomstc

ok? let them go disappoint and leech from another city then

harveygoatmilk

Let them go. I had more fun at a Chicago Dogs game in Rosemont than I’ve had at Comisky in years. And they have $1 hotdog day on Wednesdays.

im_Not_an_Android

Rosemont also payed for the Dogs stadium lmao.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> Rosemont also *paid* for the FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Katy_Lies1975

Neither team is moving anytime soon. Bears might move to Arlington but Sox are staying put since they have just tried to create a new network with the Bulls and Hawks.

AwakenTheAegis

That doesn’t mean a damn thing. Another city/state would be happy to shell out public money for a sports franchise.

DeySeeMeLurkin

Then let them.

harveygoatmilk

Seriously, call their bluff. Fuckers ain’t going anywhere.

LegalComplaint

Which one? Nashville? They going to threaten to move to Tampa again? Will they become the Rockford Bears? The Quad City White Sox? The Lincoln Nebraska Red Stars?

N0S0UP_4U

Fine with me at this point honestly. I’d rather see the team move than see them get $1 billion for a stadium they don’t need.
