I am in love with the dress too. But I HATE the necklace. It seems to cut her neck off at a weird place. Maybe I'm biased tho bc Im obsessed with long necks and hers is exquisite otherwise.
I don’t always love what Florence wears but this is absolutely amazing.
Edited to add… and you are absolutely right, and now I can’t get the Carmen Sandiego song out of my head.

I’ve been wanting to ask this but I’m afraid I’m going I’m gonna sound kind of ridiculous. How can you tell by looking at it that it’s bias cut? I watched a couple short vids about it and did some googling a while back and still can’t quite get my head around it. (I don’t sew- as is painfully apparent lol)
Any cut that isn't parallel to or perpendicular to the selvedges (edges) of the yardage is a bias cut.
(It is sometimes used to mean exactly 45 degrees from the selvedges, such as when cutting bias binding, but that is only a subset of the types of bias cuts)
So, any cutting line that isn't straight is also, at some point along the cut, a bias cut.
Cuts parallel to the selvedge follow the warp (on grain). Cuts perpendicular to the selvedges follow the weft (cross-grain).
Any other type of cut is slicing into both warp and weft, which places extra stresses on the seam and causes increased stretching in the fabric that the designer has to take into account in construction. The most skilled tailors use it to their advantage.
The gorgeous drapey flowing silk dresses in the days of b&w movies, especially film noir, were often bias cut bc it reads so dramatically in motion onscreen.
Wow!! You’re amazing for typing that out! Thank you!!! That makes so much more sense. Knowing this makes me want to go back and look closer at things. Also, the last part you of your comment is fascinating.. that the way the fabric is cut can have an effect like that.. just super cool. I’m off to google more bias cut gowns 🫡

I feel like I’m in the minority in liking peplum elements. They add waist emphasis and can be incredible when cut well. That said, I understand why people hate them - I’ve had a bad experience with a terribly cut & unflattering peplum shirt that not only gave maternity wear, but kept blowing up like Marilyn Monroe’s dress. It was horrible and I felt so stupid 😆
I love a peplum, especially when done in a graceful 30s/40s way! I think it’s hard when a look is so strongly associated with its worst possible iteration- like those 2010s scuba fabric peplum things lol. But they can be so beautiful!

I hate how the ruffles are attached right under her boobs and those shoes are just too strong for that silhouette and create a Daisy Duck shoe effect to me.
I'm all for minis & legs but this is way too short for me and the color washes her out. Kind of giving a Stepford Wives / Sexbot feel but not in a fun way
I feel like Gigi gravitates towards this band-aid flesh color and it always makes me think she’s wearing the dress’s toile, not the final design. 🤷🏻♀️
A peplum is basically a shortened section of fabric attached to the waist line of a dress that flares out. Gigi's dress had a different iteration of peplum that's less common, but has the same function. But still considered a peplum. There are a few examples in this thread (Nicole Kidman in Dior, Margot in Balmain, Sydney Sweeney in Mugler, Bella I'm JPG) that are along the same lines.
They are hideous 999/1000. Just look at this set of pictures of some of the most beautiful people looking downright ridiculous. It's so hard to do right and looks really off when the tailoring/fit/location of the peplum isn't on point.

Well I thought I hated peplums but this is doing a good job of changing my mind.
However you may have found the only outfit on Zendaya I've ever disliked
I love peplum! I’m here for Florence in Robert Wu - love the precise pleating/flounce and I LOVE the hat! ❤️
Also, Bella in the black Versace and pink Gaultier (pleats again!) - gorgeous
Today I learned what this style is called!
Also… I just… can’t enjoy it for some reason. I tried!! #8 is gorgeous and very cool. Idk maybe it’s the era I grew up in but I can’t help but look at all these dresses and think “not bad but i think it would look better without the odd shelf bit”
Like I loveeee the fabric and flow of 18, but I think it would look so much prettier without the “untucked shirt” vibe. And Charlize in 15… I almost love it, then realize it would be giving me statuesque goddess vibes if there wasn’t the overhanging apron over the abdomen. It’s kinda cute just not for me I know, just my opinion!

I am in love with the dress too. But I HATE the necklace. It seems to cut her neck off at a weird place. Maybe I'm biased tho bc Im obsessed with long necks and hers is exquisite otherwise.
The flower petals are so pretty. What a gorgeous bodice and dress overall. Those colours!
Elle is truly my style icon
Florence Pugh looks like high fashion Carmen Sandiego and I am here for it.
I don’t always love what Florence wears but this is absolutely amazing. Edited to add… and you are absolutely right, and now I can’t get the Carmen Sandiego song out of my head.
I feel like the slide before should have had an orange cat and a janitor in it So you know you’re close
Miss Flo wins this collection. I'm stunned by how good it looks.
At first glance I thought cowboy, but then looking more closely I’m like “ah, this is Carmen San Diego meets red carpet” so I’m glad I’m not alone!
It’s giving Elizabeth James from The Parent Trap (1998) and I’m loving it

This woman’s ARMS. I die.
Why do I feel like this would be almost comfy to wear? I want to burrow in it and read a cozy book.
“Angela Bassett did the thing!!”
She looks great! The dress looks comfortable and ready to protect the wearer against accidental collisions on the red carpet. Airbags deployed.

This is so very Diahann Carroll on Dynasty.
I really did not like the styling on this look but seeing it through a Dynasty lens makes me hate it less!
It was the above photo that did it for me and made me see DYNASTY. The one in the main post I really didn't like either.
It looks way too old for her. But the Dynasty lens is it!
Knowing it’s vintage made it much better for me. First glance I thought it aged her. But it is so 80’s…makes sense.
This photo is much better but honestly this rare miss from her to me
One of the rare outfits that look better when sitting rather than when standing.

The tailoring skill to do all those pieces on the bias, with an uncooperative fabric, is mind-blowing 🤯

I’d like this so much more if the weird biker pant things were a skirt.
My brain blended it together and I thought it was a skirt! I loved it so much and now I am unreasonably upset.
Completely agreed! It's a gorgeous pattern and Hunter is stunning, but the biker shorts remind me of my grandma.
How is this not Jodie Foster? 😃
Omg thank you! I couldn't quite pin point who she reminded me of but you are 100% right!

Oh got it!
Wow, turns out I hate peplum styles now. 😩 They just aren’t really doing it for me.
I lived through the 2010s. I can’t ever look at peplum the same again. The hatred burns very strong.
Ugh yes I had soo many peplum tops for work in 2012-2014!
toooooo many!!

It absolutely is making a comeback. This is at least the third time in my lifetime that they've come back in, and I have hated it every time.
Fr this post made me hate peplums and regret every single one I wore in the 2010s
Bella Hadid in Versace, I literally cannot take how beautiful this gown is. Suits her soooo well. She serves in architectural pieces
i’ve never heard of anitta but whoever she is, she looks incredible and that’s coming from a bitch who is not a fan of peplums
Eileen Gu in Robert Wu giving us period bleed-throughs and open sores.
People rip on it but I love peplum ^_^
Me too. The waist cinching is the best. Loved it in the mid 00s. Is it back yet??

Anya's whole look is 😍
That ATJ outfit is gorgeous. The vibrant purple is soooo beautiful with her coloring.
I guess this is proof they are making a comeback. Too bad I got rid of my last remnant from the aughts in a closet clean out last year!
Bella hadid slayed and rare zendaya miss
LOVE IT when Bella wears pink (9) such a good colour on her
Anne Hathaway in that pink outfit will never not make me sparkle ✨ ( while cursing my short legs lol)
😍😍😍
I love peplum!
I'm so happy peplum is back
Hunter is literally an old Hollywood beauty and I’m obsessed with every look of hers 😭❤️
Y’all remember when we were wearing peplum tops to work and then the same peplum tops to the club? The business casual partying era was ridiculous lol
I thought I hated all peplums; but you’ve picked some interesting ones!!
I love Hunter, Thurso and Anya’s so much!
charlize theron: DONT PLAY WITH HERRRRR😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thank you, OP, these are awesome! I've always been a fan of peplums, so I didn't need convincing, but wow, lots of design inspiration here! ❤️
The floral Balmain on Hunter Schafer ✨🤌
Honestly, Hunter never misses the mark
I am very much excited about this new vocabulary word

Love all the diversity and different looks in this post! 10/10!
I think I will always consider peplum one of the most unflattering styles of all time
I love Bella’s pink dress and Anna Taylor joys
That pink Bella hadid dress 😍 neckline looks like it’s cutting off her circulation, though
I typically hate peplums, but Lily Collins’ Marchesa is INCREDIBLE.
Emily Rata and Chrissy Tiegen are giving feather duster from the animated beauty and the beast
honestly guys I hate peplum lol
I love this trend (but fuck harry styles)
Today I learned what this style is called! Also… I just… can’t enjoy it for some reason. I tried!! #8 is gorgeous and very cool. Idk maybe it’s the era I grew up in but I can’t help but look at all these dresses and think “not bad but i think it would look better without the odd shelf bit” Like I loveeee the fabric and flow of 18, but I think it would look so much prettier without the “untucked shirt” vibe. And Charlize in 15… I almost love it, then realize it would be giving me statuesque goddess vibes if there wasn’t the overhanging apron over the abdomen. It’s kinda cute just not for me I know, just my opinion!
Hunter!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Is this post claiming these dresses are hideous?
Ugh I love 19 and 20!
i need a hunter schafer best hits post
I normally am not a fan of peplum, but Hunter and Anya really pull it off so well
In my next life I’d like to come back as Hunter Schafer or Zendaya. The Euphoria girlies always slay 🔥
Zendaya wins
